Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
Not High Elves, but related as a side project I am working on until my rank and file arrive.
Learning experience that should help some with High Elves.
Usually when I do a grisaille before inks, I stop in normal values with the Whites. Which means I end up painting them anyways after when I’m already most of the way there. Why am I doing this?
So for this model, I under coated it with Russ Grey, and then just brought the midtones up to like 85 percent opacity and the highlights all the way.
I think this white is pretty much done and it was the initial airbrush work. Might brush over with some really thin white just to smooth it out, but I’m going to try to apply this to my other models especially with their robes.

Beautiful sculpts! Where are they from and did you already compare their size with your existing miniatures?

They are Elves of Silvermoor. The print shop lets you choose the scale, but they are slightly taller and thicker than normal High Elves.Anduil of Elithis wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 7:53 pm Beautiful sculpts! Where are they from and did you already compare their size with your existing miniatures?
I’m chalking that up to Caledorian blood.

Did some light sketches and these should be fun. They look slightly more aggressive than normal HE, which suits my theme.
Plus look at those baller wingtip shoes!!

Need some input. Should the plate armour be;
- more silver like the scales and a traditional High Elf scheme
- more gold like the trim, my host is Caledorian, my dragon is gold, and for some reason gold is faster for me.

Here is the first model blocked in. I think I’m pretty happy with that balance of metals, leaving the characters distinguished by their solid gold plate.
I cannot stress enough now easy these inks make the process, I’m not completely dreading doing 45 of them

Really good first colour blocks! I think this works well for regular troops, giving you options to integrate more golden armour elements for elite units and characters.

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
I’ve put down the initial drybrush for each metal. But now do I panel line for more contrast? Or is the depth good enough?
Plus - more depth and an additional coat of gloss varnish will help make them bullet proof.
Minus - add a day to cure the varnish to each model at that stage. I might be able to offset this by having batches in different states of production and stagger them.

Personally, I would not do additional panel lining here, as I consider the level of depth above sufficient. But I also don't paint as well as you do, so there is that

These are probably the best third party High Elves I've seen, although I'm still a die hard for the original GW aesthetics and motifs. Can't wait to see these when you're all done!

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
I think you’re right, and if I ever want to finish my RnF I should probably not add too much process. When I think about it being in a block means you’re only going to see so much since there is forest through the trees effect, and the actual obscuring of the inner models. Thanks for the reason.Anduil of Elithis wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 5:16 pm Personally, I would not do additional panel lining here, as I consider the level of depth above sufficient. I think they were the best balance of still looks like a HE and a little more aggressive like a Caledorian levy might be. They are nice to work with too, very receptive to inks and dry brushing which I wanted because I’m slow.TyrrenAzureblade wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 5:51 pm These are probably the best third party High Elves I've seen, although I'm still a die hard for the original GW aesthetics and motifs. Most excellent. I'm assuming you purchased them pre-printed and didn't self print? Either way, how's the print quality? They look pretty crisp in the photos you posted.Turion Rilyaloce wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 7:05 pmI think they were the best balance of still looks like a HE and a little more aggressive like a Caledorian levy might be. Yes preprinted. The print quality is very good. It’s the packing that you have to worry about lol. They came with some breaks. But I’ll fix themTyrrenAzureblade wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 8:24 pmMost excellent. I'm assuming you purchased them pre-printed and didn't self print? Either way, how's the print quality? Metals done except for the pure white hot spots.
I have to say I’m absolutely loving the round mail. It looks a lot better to me than the rectangular scale mail, Anduil was right no panel lining needed once the bright highlights are down.
These are a joy to paint, they are fast, and look great. Great sculpts.

Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë, leader of the Drakes and the Hawks army, unites Caledor and Yvresse forces under the banner of Dragon and Hawk, themed in purple, white, gold, green, and blue.

I had a dragon sitting around and could not really explain to myself why I’d use a griffon instead. So now that I have the skill to swap the rider, I had to consolidate the power of the Drakes!

We are on bases! There is satisfaction in seeing the models base to base in a proto rank. Can’t wait to have a whole unit.

Nice!
I actually like the before and after picture for the NNM. It's great to see how well it works. They look very deadly indeed.
