New Recruit is reporting Badlands Ogre Bulls are available as mercenaries with High Elves. Can anyone confirm this? I'll also note, that Pure of Heart looks like an easy way to circumvent the Mercenary rule. If this is true, I'd be seriously interested in taking some Ogres, maybe as proxy Giant Lions or similar.
Kind regards,
Axiem

Re: Badland Ogre Bulls
Yes, in the O&G Arcane Journal they have this little box:
Dogs Of War
Badlands Ogre Bulls may be taken as Mercenaries in any army made using any Grand
Army composition list that includes a Mercenaries category.
Note that mercenary units are subject to the ‘Misbehaving Mercenaries’ rules, as described on
page 279 of the Warhammer: the Old World rulebook.
Re: Badland Ogre Bulls
I don't think Pure of Heart does anything for the mercenaries rules. The Ogres would certainly appreciate the leadership buff but the whole extra mercenary step is just a die roll. On a 1 they have to roll on a sub table with some bad and some good stuff, otherwise they're normal troops for your game.

Awesome -- haven't gotten my hands on that yet. That's cool to see!Halinn wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 1:00 am Yes, in the O&G Arcane Journal they have this little box:

Often, an army can include certain units drawn from another army list as mercenaries. Any such units included in your army gain this special rule. Mercenaries cannot use the Inspiring Presence rule of the army’s General (see page 203) nor the Hold your Ground rule of a Battle Standard (see page 203). Mercenaries cannot be joined by Characters drawn from another army list.
Pure of Heart:
Unless this character is fleeing, all friendly units within their Command Range can use their Leadership characteristic instead of their own. In addition, this character and any unit it has joined automatically passes any Panic test it is required to make.
Looks to me like it clearly works to benefit from the Leadership, without using the Inspiring Presence rule that Mercs can't get.

Axiem

Ahhh, that wasn't in the misbehaving mercenaries section so that makes sense now. Thanks!
