Loren is rising - getting my asrais back into shape.

#1 Post by Ramesesis »

I have started to get back into my wood elves again, starting when I repurposed the high elf spears I had used as Eternal guards back to being high elf spears.

I started with an old project. I once bought a metal wood elf highborn with great weapon second hand. The mini was missing the sword but I figured I could kitbash something.
I had the same mini but in finecast resin so I really wanted a metal one.
It is in my opinion the best mini GW ever made. Full of character and attitude.

So now, like almost 10 years since I got it I started to finish it. I am not totally satisfied but it feels good enough for now.

The mini have always been how I imagined Lord Raimie, my wood elf alter ego.

Interesting look, especially the metals.

Hey, it's good to see people still on here and still painting.

Lord Raimies bodyguard unit is now formed up and ready to defend him to the death.

Having looked through my wood elves I realize they really need a facelift.I need hightling, some wash etc. Lots of work. Well, I will do some in order to make them presentable alongside the Treeman and Raimies guards.

Still, nothing that cannot be done.

That's the downside that comes with spending time painting. You get better, and when you look back at previous work you realize how much better you could do now.

Started to convert 8 more minis to the Eternal guard. Formerly meant to be warriors from Cothique I felt I really needed them batter as Eternal guard. This brings the strength to 27 + my general or BSB.

The cloak and sword guy looks quite dramatic.

Love the autumn theme for the Wood Elves. It just works so well on them.

This is why my nr 1 rule regarding painting is that I don't touch anything finished with a paint brush anymore. I'm only allowed to go back to previous models if I have nothing left to paint or assemble, which is, as I'm sure you know, a utopia in this hobby...

The one exception I'll allow myself is if the model is somehow broken and needs fixing.

In the end, I would always prefer to have 1 excellently painted model and 1 less well painted model over 1 exellently painted model. Yes, updating existing models to your current standard might be quicker, but in the end you still have unpainted models, and the badly painted model still looks better than a completely unpainted one.
