Both the painted noble and the bsb conversion look great! Really like the feel of movement on the bsb horsie. Can't wait to see it painted!

Here it is! Just finished painting, I still have to finish basing it.Olthannon wrote:Both the painted noble and the bsb conversion look great! Really like the feel of movement on the bsb horsie. Can't wait to see it painted!
At the risk of sounding immodest, I am quite pleased with the outcome and I really liked the sculpting aspects of this challenge too.

Thanks everyone, I am glad you liked it.
My favourite bit is the big red gem on the horse's chest, it's the first time I have one that is large enough for me to do all the shading.
Since I could not find a model with such a big gem, I made one myself

That was indeed a lucky find on eBay. It was very cheap and I have another four!Vermis wrote:Dang, that unicorn looks the biz! Nice job all around, especially those moulded legs.
I am thinking of putting an archmage on top of one, but this will have to wait.
I have learned a lot in terms of casting stuff with milliput from blue stuff moulds.
While not the best technology, it is easy, cheap and the moulds can be recycled.
I have now done several trolls and am working on a whole unit of phoenix guard (metal models).
I also got a cheap phoenix on eBay, stripped it and unglued it (a dog of a job, polystyrene cement welds the parts), plus a lot of bits, so now I am ready to start building my own flying circus.
All these projects plus my O&G new units could keep me busy for years, now I need to stop buying stuff

Painting since my last post has been a bit slower.
I have painted Teclis (not the latest version) and the IoB archmage. Both models are quite intricate for such small figures and took a while to do.
I have also painted a savage orc shaman, which I needed for my other army.
I'll try to post pictures before the weekend.
My next painting jobs are, in order:
-Arachnarok (under way, possibly the most complex and finnicky model I've ever touched)
-Trolls (8 or 9)
-Frostheart
-Savage orcs (30)
-More silver helms
-Phoenix guard (20)
-...

Re: A new painting blog - Arachnarok WIP
Great job.
I have the same model of Teclis. I especially like what you did with the cape. The texture looks really great. It looks like you spent a lot of time on this !
For the IoB mage the staff is wonderful. Did you freehand the rune on the orb ?
This is the first time I see this spider crab model. It kinda scares me tbh. I don't think I'll be able to sleep well with something like that in my house XD

Thank you, these miniatures took some effort. I wanted Teclis' cape to be a very deep blue, I ended up shading with neat black.Azaam wrote:Great job.

The freehand on the orb of the other mage is not runes Just streaks, I wanted to give an effect like lightning or star streaks in a night sky.
The monster thing is quite OTT, which is why I like it. Probably not that competitive for the points, but it;s a great challenge.
My wife and daughter agree with you on its freakiness. The daughter runs away screaming when I show it to her. Great way of making her clear the office

Re: A new painting blog - Arachnarok WIP
I JUST got that Teclis model in the mail! I like your color scheme, introducing the red, really well done overall. Still no clue what I'm going to do with mine, but I think I'm saving him for one of the last models I paint, once I've got some more painting hours under my belt.
Re: A new painting blog - Arachnarok WIP
Lovely work on the various magic users! I really like those Arachnarok models, real beasts! I think the only response is to burn it with fire.

It's starting to look great. You could call it done and be happy with it. Of course, there's still a lot of room to improve it. But I like it already. The red shading on the back of the spider especially is great.

While technically admissible in tournaments, the result is still below my ambition by some margin.
This thing is going to make me toil some more.

Re: A new painting blog - Arachnarok WIP
Are you planning attending any tournaments?
Definitely keep improving it (and telling us about it). It will be a great centrepiece for an army (do you have a list in mind?).
For me, the moment to stop painting such a large model is when the improvements I make mess up something else. That's a point where instead of making things better I just make them different.

I have put a few of my army lists on SA's O&G painting blog. Never player 8th though, only 6th.Prince of Spires wrote:Are you planning attending any tournaments?

And no tournaments either. My first and last one was in 1990 in Italy.
That one was a friendly affair, but I am a bit out of my depth with the generally more competitive attitude here in the UK (nothing wrong in itself...).
Also, not sure how to find events near me as I am not on Facebook.
Anyway, tournaments are not really something I want to do these days, maybe after the coronavirus emergency.

Yeah, that's some nice chitin, right there.Prince of Spires wrote:The red shading on the back of the spider especially is great.
Lol, received wisdom here (at least a few years ago) was that Italian Warhammer was very competitive! I guess there must be all sorts of different events in both countries, though not right now probably.MasterOfNone wrote:And no tournaments either. My first and last one was in 1990 in Italy.

Re: A new painting blog - Arachnarok WIP
Holy hell, that's some good stuff! I would go crazy panting one model with that much detail (not looking forward to painting the Skaven bell or furnace that I end up building). I second the really good detail work on the carapace of that hideous beast, it contrasts pretty well with the softer under belly grossness. 8/8 spider legs from me.

Re: A new painting blog - Arachnarok WIP
Thanks, this model for sure is hard work, made worse by the fact that I bought it pre-assembled.TyrrenAzureblade wrote:Holy hell, that's some good stuff! I have painted big monsters before, but this is another level, it is so full of small detail. I think the howdah will be the worst part.
Progress is noticeably slower lately, I have not been as dedicated to painting recently as I have been during the summer.
