As requested here are some rider angles sans fingers (I actually thought I had pretty fingers from those shots haha ). Mireadur if you are painting a dragon, I can't wait to see it, if your DPs are anything to judge by! Also this is the models first pure daylight appearance as suggested by Solith, thanks man

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
Sorry it took so long to get back to this, I got caught up in exams and then thought that I already had replied.
I have a picture of my Drake, which was the test piece for my metallics in my plog, in my signature.
And just started work on the Carmine today. First heavy layer of Seraphim Sepia has been laid on one side. But keep up the good work, LOVE the snow leopard design on the griffon, Snow Leopards are one of my favourite animals.

I managed to miss this one entirely.
Wow, in sunlight that looks amazing. I really like that it's more of a brown-gold than a yellow-gold. This way it's more realistic (for me) and I think if you had done it as a yellow-gold it would be garish and too distracting.

Prince Asarion - those drakes are great ideas and conversions for eagles. You are going to have a great time with the carmine dragon I'm sure, the sculpt is amazing.
Solith - totally agree, the brownish gold feels much more organic to me. Also the rider is going to be yellowish gold, so that would be too much together. I've sculpted details like the cloaks and saddle with harnesses to give me areas where I can break up the dominance of the two golds on the model, hopefully it works out.

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
Laurëdraugnir is finally finished, so exhausting but also very satisfying. Very happily surprised with how much character the dragons face turned out with, instead of being some expressionless beast. Kudos to the sculptor. Prince Turion is getting his base coat tomorrow! I can't wait to see what they will look like together

Fantastic, the colours are excellent. I've been watching your log here for a long time and it's nice to see the model turned out so nicely. That dragon would look at home in a Wood elf army as well, i know one wood elf player who would be envious to see this. Scale work along the back turned out really nice, oh and the mouth looks excellent. You should be very proud of this model.

I was a bit surprised that you left the claws black, but then I realised that brown claws on a 'brown' dragon wouldn't look so good. Well done on the finished model!

Here is the basecoat for Prince Tûrion. The areas of blue-grey will be highlighted up to white. As you can see the base for the golden armour is much darker than the dragon as I will be working up to yellow and white from here, with shading to black

It's the Carmine Dragon from Forgeworld, with some minor alterations and sculpting. Really nice model with lots of detail, I'd recommend it

Painting is awesome, but I hate those ''stone'' elements in front of the base, it really ruins the great effect of dragon.

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
They are there really because the dragon is top heavy. I was hoping to just use a single ball bearing but couldn't find one. What would you suggest? Maybe cover them in vines or moss to mute and disguise back into the base?

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
Another idea could be to get rid of them completely and weigh the base down with a sheet of lead or steel or the like in the cavety under the base

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
I tried that already, but the weight is so focused on one corner that a breeze will knock it down. Maybe I should have just made the base out of lead. I'm gonna see if the vines help, if not ill have to scrap the base. Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Why not glueing the dragon in the middle of the base?

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
here is Prince Turion with his silvers and basecoat done. Work has been busy and I've been traveling so I'm working at a slow rate. I caved and decided to do the silvers non metallic as well.

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
Here is Prince Turion with 2 layers of NMM highlights finished (yellow brown/yellow), there are two more to go and then the armour will be finished. I have to say from a preliminary look, that this is the best NMM work I've done so far, it's the truest I've been able to represent the blending of color and realistic flow of light. Also notice the silver scale in the second photo, as I think it turned out amazing. Let me know what you guys think! Sorry for the fingers but I wanted to show him without mount to focus on the armour.

The next two completed highlights (golden yellow/light yellow), next is washes. You can see the armour is really coming along. Now to add some contrast and definition.

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
The sunlight is a bit overpowering for the pictures, but considering just how striking your NMM is I can't wait to see the finished result.
Is there a specific reason you've not added in pupils yet? I usually end up doing them with the rest of the face so I was curious.

The pupils are there Solith, but they are probably being over powered by the sun like you said, haha I'm still struggling with photography! Here are some pics after shading, hopefully you can get more out of them.

Two pics after the final highlights (ushabti bone/white scar). Now just a glaze of yellow to tone them down and then blink points and we are done the armour.

Final finished armour after bother highlight and shading glazes, and blink points. Now just the detailing and the model will be complete.
Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
It might just be be, but there's a definite style to your NMM that I really like. Especially on the shield, I think the thin lines you've had to paint there really show off your skill to it's best advantage.

Thanks Solith! I think I've been more able under stand how light works in surfaces, every time I've painted something I've improved. I feel after looking again at this model that there are some blink points that are out of place, I might just sort those out, but other wise I'm very happy with it

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
Only ''but'' imo is that the riders armour maybe would be better in a bright colour to constrast the brown on the dragon. Just a maybe, however =).

Re: Prince Tûrion Rilyalocë and the Golden Drake Laurëdrauginir
I had considered that Mireadur, but I also wanted to keep the army consist in the fact that Caledorians wear armour that is a nod to the dragon their house is allied, with and also I want the army to be coherent in its color scheme. My answer to this is that hopefully the cloak, saddle, and robes will be enough contrast between the two golds, we will have to wait and see though. I sometimes have trouble reconciling what would be realistic in my army's theme and what looks good. In the end I went with consistentcy and the overall look of the model within the army as a whole.
