Re: 2400pts - First attempt in a LOOONG time
With such small units of White Lions, I don't think the Annointed can be worthwhile. It's too easy to kill off the unit and break him on combat resolution. If you put both units together, or dropped a chariot to increase the size of one, the Annointed would look awesome. I realize you are going very...

Re: High Magic
Comparing a single bolt hit to Soul Quench (2d6 S4), the magic missile wins unless the target has a 1+ armour save. And the bolt might hit without the spell. As Shannar says, it's the same basic flaw as Curse of Arrow Attraction. I don't like the D3 part of Hand of Hlory. (same flaw as Shadow). One ...

Re: White Lions in the new book
The problem with Metal is the buffs are too weak and/or too hard to cast. Transmutation of Lead is the absolute worst in that regard - 12+ for that small impact is absurd. The spell might be reasonable cast on a 6+, and 8+ is probably about right. Enchanted Blades and Glittering Scales are also hard...

Re: Path To Glory - Second Game up - ETC comp vs WoC
Thanks for the continued report stream. Lore-wise there's no doubt that High Magic saved me here. With that being said, I noticed very quickly that my buffs, while nice, were not game-breaking. And that's the problem I have with the lore. Your three reports don't include an enemy where you need buff...

That would be a written rule concerning line of sight. There are effectively no rules about line of sight in 8th; just the argument inducing "whatever the model can see".Rychek wrote:I thought a model in the second rank uses the model in front of it for determining line of sight.

Re: The Macedonian Cavalry Prince - Adapting to the New Book
Despite Hero's oddly placed negativity, that's quite a post. Yet I'm not sure where its going. Given your desire for spear blocks plus cavalry, the new book is only hurting you in the characters, but doing little to your troops. You can pretty much run your old list with a Frost Phoenix replacing th...

Re: Great Lakes Warhammer League Championship (old book)
Congratulations!!!!! And thank you especially for the constant stream of good battle reports. My personal Warhammer pinnacle is well in my past (won a big GT once), and now I'm a father that barely gets to play, but the game is still fun. You don't have to play at the top to enjoy the game, even if ...

Re: Path To Glory - First Report Up! 2400 vs Tomb Kings
Star Lance and Sword of Anti-Heroes placement. My thought is the lance makes more sense on the Dragon Prince champion, and the sword on the hero. Mainly because if stuff survives the charge, or charges you, they likely can kill the DP champion, meaning you won't have the sword in later rounds. Thoug...

I would think 4x5 with no musicians is better, and only costs 2 more points. Musicians are relatively really expensive on Reavers now.Malossar Dragonborne wrote:6x Reavers w. Bows, Spears, Musician - 124

Re: Any thoughts with using the Griffon now?
What is the best protective build for a Griffon noble? I'm considering a monster list at 2500, with Star Dragon and two Phoenix. I want a level 2 Mage, a BSB, and a Griffon, but I'm not finding equipment setups for all three that fit. Maybe I have to make the BSB the Griffon rider, but that would ma...

Re: Army of Lothern 2000pts. *Updated*
I don't see the dual Loremasters as being cost effective. The second one is only providing more spells, but you don't have the dice to cast all the useful spells from the first one. You don't have anything to slow down the enemy, but your army relies on shooting. You could easily be engaged on turn ...

Re: Loremaster - the centre of your magic phase or supporting?
Except there are only 4 spells he can cast from the middle of the unit and only a couple of those can be cast every turn. Tough luck if all of your rolled spells are direct damage. Unless you are playing alternative rules, there is no problem with casting direct damage from the second rank. It is d...

Re: Teclis + White Lions
Teclis has bunches of good spells, but no significant ability to cast them. With no extra dice, the super spell selection is largely useless. With only +1 to cast/dispel compared to a regular Archmage, the Archmage with Book of Hoeth is BETTER at both casting and dispelling. Sure he gets one turn of...

Re: High Magic
rdghuizing, I think your analysis above underestimates the value of the old Shield of Saphery, and neglects context. Adding a 5+ ward to a unit was a real combat boost. That was guaranteed 1/3 reduction in damage, against all types of attacks, and the range let you put it on basically anything (exce...

Re: Stealing from Everyone: Balanced 2500 Pt Dragon List
Some poor wording in that post Arrogance265. "Discrupt Steadfast" makes no sense. Disruption removes rank bonus, but has no affect on Steadfast. Steadfast can only be removed by having more ranks. With the lack of sustained hitting power in the DP unit (only the somewhat fragile BSB), I th...

That means if you're dead set against taking direct damage spells you can *guarantee* getting a maximum of 2. Re: Furion's thoughts on the new armybook and cost of units
My paper evaluation is a definite drop in power. I disagree with some of Furions first post details (I think DPs are okay), but the overall conclusion is the same - the book is weaker. And the previous book was not exactly powerful. My reasoning is simple - where is the power? Compared to the previo...

Re: Loremaster - the centre of your magic phase or supporting?
My thinking is to make the Loremaster my primary caster ... but not to expect much from him. With essentially all our magic boosts gone, I think HE are now below average in magic phases, both offense and defense. Not being level 4 hurts, and the signature spells are not all that great, but I think t...

Re: Lets get crazy with new Character Builds!!
What is the point in putting an Annointed on a Phoenix? I don't see how the Annointed provides any significant performance improvement. Maybe with Crown of Command, but generally I'd rather just have another Phoenix (or Griffon, or Eagle Prince, or ...).
