Hellheart and Banner of Sorcery

Hi, had this question come up during a UB battle yesterday --> When do you roll the D3 PD for BOS: before or after hellheart is declared? - Hellheart's text says "used at the start of one of the opposing's side magic phases, immediately after rolling for winds of magic" - BOS simply says &...

Re: Ogre Wars Part 3 updated 2011_10_08

True about losing rerolls due to ASL aura being irritating, and your shooting/MM wouldn't have killed the tusk fast enough. However, going for the tusk as opposed to the Mournfangs also means that you'd be letting his cavalry do to you what you aim to do to his --> move fast, crush a unit, and be on...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

Good win! :) Nice to see the list works.

To clarify something, did you pursue both the spear orcs/big uns with the DPs? Don't have the BRB handy right now but I believe a unit can only choose to pursue 1 fleeing unit, not both.

Re: Ogre Wars Part 3 updated 2011_10_08

Think you were really unlucky when the Mournfangs passed the rerollable Ld 3 break test, and the warp swallowed your AM  Was the Dragonhide Banner's breath attack used at all? Didn't quite see it mentioned... Statistically, the spears stand a very poor chance of winning combat against 3-4 mou...

Re: Ogres! Tactics!

Indeed... with the ability to take sabertusks in 1-10, and core groups of gnoblars in 10s, ogres have gained really excellent crap drops/redirecting ability, and scouting maneaters (or sabertusks) can do a rather decent job of sneaking into the backline. The magic items I agree are in general not a ...

Re: Brewmaster D's Mighty Empires Blog

Too true... but sadly can't bring along cameras to the place where I play the empire player, and I can't recall the specific details of the 1st 2 battles well enough to make batreps worthwhile. The last battle...well, was conceded at turn 3 after shooting took out all eagles/chariot, 1 DP unit, and ...

Re: Brewmaster D's Mighty Empires Blog

Hey Brewmaster. Like the last WoC game :) well executed, and congrats on achieving the "take down the chosen" mission! Running a Life/Light list similar to yours currently, main differences being 2 blocks of PG/WL instead, with 2 5 man DP units and a tiranoc instead of WLC. Switched over r...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

The vortex shard sounds like a rather interesting idea :) But it'd certainly require more aggressive play/careful maneuvering and planning to get maximal usage out of it - such that the one magic phase you stop is the game changing one. Not an insurmountable problem though. Think you'd need to consi...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

Presumably you'd get a high casting total from the Slaughtermaster and a sneaky low-cast from the Butcher. I personally think taking a second Butcher would be overkill. Even then though, you have to take a Tyrant don't you and a BSB must be a good idea. That's a lot in characters, though Ogre chara...

Re: Warhammer Woes

If you're in Asia too (where are you? ) you can probably lay your hands on Dettol - have read that it works (soak plastic figures undiluted x about 24 hours, use toothbrush and scrub after). My disclaimer is that I have yet to try it myself, but was planning to do so for eBay figures anyway. ...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

But 2.3 kills on average per cast means DPs very likely will test for panic, and even a SH bus stands a fair chance of risking a panic test. And attrition wise, for comparison 9 attacks from 3 ironguts will only give you 2.5 wounds average vs T3/2+ save. It's gold for Ogres on such cavalry troops si...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

Good win :) Actually, his army IS illegal :P There's no provision for slaughtermasters or butchers to take big names (mawseeker, +1T) I believe. Only allowed for tyrants/bruisers. Another thing to watch out for, which it doesn't seem like he tried, is bonecruncher (2D6 S2 hits w no armour save). Dea...

Re: Plastic infantry assembly questions

I found the new plastic PGs to be quite a headache to rank up, due to the billowing cloaks and some of the halberds (just the way they're designed) which seem hellbent on decapitating their neighbours unless u rank them up on the extreme left. WLs are comparatively easier by a fair amount, although ...

Re: Special Chars Allowed Tournament! My List 2000

Another way of looking at that is that there are plenty of lists containing Archmagi with +4 to cast and also 4 spells (builds w/o SW), where BoS would be considered high priority/necessary. With Eltharion and a lvl 2, there are 2 lvl 2 mages with +2 to cast and also 4 spells. Would the BoS then not...

Re: Tir's Log

Yup, was referring to the indentations in the archer robes (i.e. the bottoms) with respect to green stuff, not IOB...

That said, I was unlucky enough to have only 4 cavalry bases shipped in my IOB box  which sucks, frankly.

I was wondering if the archers in the HE battalion had some newfangled robe creases for realism, when I first saw those lines, being part of a "new battalion set" and was thinking how ugly/weird they looked. Luckily I received my PG in the mail and saw your thread on the same day and...

Re: Tir's Log

A small question, sorry to be partially hijacking your thread, but noticed it on your miniatures: The archer bottoms (in fact new PG bottoms too I've noticed, just that they'll be covered by the cloaks) have these very shallow grooves/lines which I presume are an unfortunate side effect of the plast...

Re: Plastic Sea Guards on advance order!

It's actually not overpriced, is it? Not by GW standards - considering that 10 PG/WL go for £25 from GW... unfortunately I suppose it's not very fair to compare the LSG pricing to a Spearman box pricing considering the amount of detail/demand for LSGs. Plus, it's 10 RnF LSG whereas getting 10 IoB LS...

Re: Prince with Bow of the Seafarer and Shadow Armour

How does scout deployment benefit the Bow of the Seafarer? It really doesn't. Since you hit on 2s at long range (if you don't move), being close is pointless. If you want to move and be a short range, a Great Eagle provides vastly more mobility. Being inside a shadow warrior unit is even more limit...

Re: Expanded 1500 pt IOB army

I see... They're not choices, they're random rolls. The Silver Wand comes recommended on Archmages not because you can cast 5 spells in one turn (PD won't be there for that), but so that if you really need a particular spell you only have a 1.5% chance of not having rolled it. Apologies for the nome...

Re: Expanded 1500 pt IOB army

Hmm so generally +1 PD has more utility than +1 to cast? I wasn't looking at increasing magic defence or loremaster's cloak initially cos my friend will only have dwarves, so no magic to defend against until we start playing amongst the wider community :) IIRC, the anvil wrath & ruin hits don't ...

Would like some comments re: my revised army (with an aim to build it from the IOB/battalion sets, + a GE and the new PG box). Will mainly be playing solo initially with my friend who's decided on Dwarves as his first army. Archmage + Starwood Staff + Folariath's Robe = 345 BSB + halberd/hand weapon...

Expanded 1500 pt IOB army

Hi everyone, I'll be a new player to WHFB (to tabletop gaming for that matter) come the release of IOB, so I'm hoping for some advice re: putting up a list for play with my friends (starting WHFB together, planning to start small at 1500 pts first) In view of the omnipresent urge to save $$$ initial...
