Re: Eltharion's Tactical Challenge 1

Actually, all 6 DPs would be able to fight in the combat. Up to ten models can fight in a building assault, except for monstrous stuff and monsters. Cavalry don't count as two for this purpose (probably because they are dismounted). The stand-and-shoot would hurt but likely won't be a killer. 10 BS ...

Re: Eltharion's Tactical Challenge 1

Okay, first I'm going to assume we can't change the unit composition (IMHO, some units are non-optimal). Deployment-wise, I would expect that the rat general will castle up around the fortress, to protect the vulnerable-to-melee unit inside. You also have more drops, which means your opponent is exp...

Re: Slaying Daemons

I agree with Demar that you need some chaff units. If I were a demon player going up against a HE army with BOTWD, I'd make sure to include enough chaff units (such as beasts of nurgle) to tie up the banner unit while the rest of the army dies. You need something to prevent this, and beasts of nurgl...

Re: Sorry but... 2500pts Goblin List for Review.

I love the theme of the army, and I think it could be a winner as opposed to just fluffy. The specials and rares are strong. Having the capability of lots of fast cavalry characters is awesome. You could maximize the results of using so many fast cav characters by outfitting and running them a bit d...

Re: Double Eagle Prince list, 2500 pts

One thing I should point out that can make two eagle princes superior to a dragon is that with two eagle princes you can charge one in the flank and one in the rear, preventing the unit from combat reforming to face either one. This definitely saves you some attacks back, since there will be no supp...

Re: HE MSU - vs. Bretonnia (ETC) - 17.09

I think that SM would have been well served to switch the deployment spots of A2 and SM2. Putting SM2 into the building was a bad move. Archers into that building would have been much better. Nobody is going to charge their knights into SM in a building, but the archers can sit and shoot all day, an...

Re: Wood Elves 2500 Dine and Dash

I think the list could benefit from converting one or two of the GR units into GG. This does two things: give you a bit more firepower for the points, and gives your opponent something that they think they might catch. I find when playing very maneuverable lists that there is a psychological element...

Re: 1500 points against VC

Ok, here's a few things you could learn from: 1) Vanhels could not be used to run down your dragon, even if he was fleeing. Read the text of the spell. 2) You did not focus your fire at all. Pick a unit to kill and kill it, don't shoot a little bit at each unit, esp against undead. Your widely space...

Re: Coven of Light - Is it a Gimmick?

Gimmick? Not any more than any other unbalanced list. Coven of light is definitely unbalanced, and in this case your opponent was playing a list that the unbalance in the list punished. It's no more a gimmick than bringing lots of shooting against a slow list, or lots of armor against a list with no...

The shadow warriors would probably be more effective split into two units, without the champion. Yes, I realize that you are making the unit a home for Alith, but shadow warriors are primarily an annoyance/distraction unit, whose effectiveness comes from their ability to get to positions where your ...

Re: Cavalry Prince vs Warriors of Chaos 2.5k (again)

Your strong right flank deployment seems to be what won you the game, so that was a good move. However, I will point out that you were lucky to get the first turn: you had some important units (like the 18 archers + AM) right along the back side of the board and out of range of the BSB Ld re-roll. H...

We're high elves, so our doom is coming, but perhaps not on this day... I would split your army into two parts, fast and slow. Put the chariots along with all the infantry in one group, and the flyers and fast cav in the other. Deploy the fast parts of your army first; it doesn't matter too much whe...

Two items I really like to use to protect eagle nobles from cannons are the Opal Amulet and/or the Charmed Shield. You obviously couldn't use the charmed shield if you kept the Helm of Fortune, but you can still use your great weapon, since the noble will eschew the shield in favor of the great weap...

Re: Any advise would help

There is a decent sized (9?) unit of dragon princes missing from the above list. Amazonnia mentions them twice but they are not shown. Cavalry is an important element of this list as they provide mobile support for the dragon. I'm not sure that I dig having BotWD on the BSB. There are so many other ...

Re: Blade of Leaping Gold/Potion of Strength

Yes, I have used this combo before, on a cavalry prince supported by a shadow mage, in a large unit of dragon princes. I've only played it a few times, but it worked pretty well, rolling over a gutstar and some swordmasters. I chose not to charge it into a chosenstar (too risky), which led to a draw...

With as good as the hellcannon was shooting, do you think it would have been a good idea to try to tie up the HC with your horse archers for a turn? They almost certainly would have lost that combat, but they might have saved a necrosphinx from destruction. Also, don't horse archers have scout as we...

Re: Charge and Flee direction

I have to agree with Loren that the fleeing BSB would be destroyed by the SM. This is because the BSB is not just fleeing through an enemy unit, it is fleeing through a CHARGING enemy unit. The SM had already declared a charge before the dragon did, and just because their charge has not yet been res...

Practice game before a 7th edition 'Ard Boyz finals. A Bloodthirster flies through a hail of bolts and arrows to find himself down to one wound with a perfect charge on Teclis and his tiny remaining bunker of PG. The charge is easy to make, and the unit is near the edge of the board, so I make the d...

Curu, How many dice were you throwing for your spells? It was unclear in the batrep, and it is very relevant to how the battle went. Against the banner of sundering, I think the optimal spell strategy ought to be 2-dice casts of Shems followed by more risky 2 dice castings of banishment. That way yo...

I had a very difficult time transitioning from 7th to 8th, mainly because I had built my play style around a lot of the things that were changed (march blocking, predictable charges, out-magicking the enemy). So you might think that I would prefer the 7th edition style of play. But actually I don't....

It should be noted that Flame Cage is a hex and as such can also be cast into combat. The few extra wounds it does probably wont turn the tide, but if you do win the combat, it may make the decision not to pursue much easier... Flame Cage is also great when engaging with flankers. Normally if a smal...

I think it can be great on a Mage... I wouldn't take it on a solo Archmage. I agree. I've seen it used often on a lvl 1 scroll caddy, in an otherwise magic-free army or at low points levels. This provides a cheap minimal magic phase, both offense and defense. The strategy is just throw all your dic...

I've played double AM quite a lot in 8th and most of the time I like it (usually Life/Life or High/Life, but double AM coven of light is pretty bad-ass too). One thing you need to watch out for with your current army list is dwarves. All they need to do is redirect the PG, shoot the spears and SM, a...
