Re: counters to MC and Monsters

they go first you will only get 1 turn then bb maiden guard :D Right, I forgot, High Elf armies don't have redirectors. /sarcasm Coming up with comparisons in a vacuum doesn't make much sense, because you rarely see one-on-one matchups like that occur in an actual game. Sisters may not be optimal v...

Re: counters to MC and Monsters

they go first you will only get 1 turn then bb maiden guard :D Why exactly are they automatically going first? Why did you allow the opponents mc a strait line to your maiden guard? Re: counters to MC and Monsters

I have had a lot of success in my cav list with units of 5 dp with flaming banner for monster hunting. Good odds of one hitting or crippling a chimera or hydra; any monster without regen I have had no problems taking out with a charge from my block of 10 DP or 15 Helms. 10 DP with a starlance on cha...

Re: ETC: High Elves

I certainly wouldnt accuse DE of being too weak, last year all top ten teams brought them and the comp hasnt changed that drastically. DE are now allowed double hydra again by the way if they drop the pendant and cauldron. I'll agree that they dont seem to be top tier but they are most definitely p...

Re: ETC: High Elves

With so many restrictions, they might be better of making a whole new game :P Alot of strange restrictions which do not seem to make much sense to me, but then again i never played in etc tournament. Some still make sense but half of the restrictions are overkill or just unnecessary if you ask me. ...

Re: ETC: High Elves

By ETC standards this is very light comp. 5 flyer Cap really is not harmful at all. Most High Elf Armies will be using reavers for the vast majority of re-directors regardless so the ability to take only 1 Great Eagle with your Phoenixes is really not very bad. Every army that is even half decent ri...

There is actually already a comp for High Elves in it. It is very light so far, but depending on how competitive they end up being that could easily change.

Re: Top and Bottom 3 new Book Entries!

I think the shadow warrior hate is undeserved, though I do understand where it comes from. Why Games Workshop has been advertising them, both in their model design and in white dwarf, as a combat capable unit is beyond me. HOWEVER, this does not detract from their usefulness. When it comes down to i...

Re: Saving Twitter spam Finreir The new book(for tournie gamers)

Why do you only want the narrow competitive views on this? How does the book compare to other 8th ed books. That is the interesting thing. It is the thread author`s prerogative to discuss what he pleases and I assume that in finreir`s case he wants to discuss the competitive side of things because ...

Re: Saving Twitter spam Finreir The new book(for tournie gamers)

My main disagreement with your analysis would be with that of the Loremaster. I find him very good, and I believe he fills a much needed roll in our book. His access to multiple flaming missiles, armor killing missiles, and wyssans all at the same time makes him invaluable to a list short on armor p...

Re: Loremaster - the centre of your magic phase or supporting?

I'm thinking of using him as my main caster with book of ashur. All the sigs with +3 to cast and dispel. Could be worse. Hmm interesting idea. My only question with this would be do you think the book of hoeth's benefit is less than a net +1 on each roll, and if so is it 15pts and a lost level of w...

Re: Loremaster - the centre of your magic phase or supporting?

Even without thinking of pd issues, I find him too expensive to be a support mage. As I have been going through match-ups, both in test games and in my head, I see his spells being among my solutions to many of our match-up problems that more and more I find myself preferring him as the main power d...

Re: Furion's thoughts on the new armybook and cost of units

Wow almost agree 100% with Furions first post, good to see people can read books straight off. Only thing I would disagree with is Mages, they are too expensive for 85pts, they're S3 T3 no saves of any kind for a LvL1 and the only benefit of +1 to cast for one lore, should have been 70pts and +30pt...

Re: Furion's thoughts on the new armybook and cost of units

How do the new High Elves match-up with Ogres, VC, Warriors, Empire power lists? No idea what I would even try against Nurgle Prince, double Chims, double Crushers and chariot spam. A frost phoenix is actually really strong against Daemon Princes, a single unit of Maiden Guard is more then capable ...

Re: Furion's thoughts on the new armybook and cost of units

My summary of the new book is thus we were ranked 12/15 amongst the armies books (dont want an argument about that its universally acceptable hence comp bonus') and imo we still sit there the new book still only means to me that woodies, tomb kings and beastmen are below us. Bad release overall for...

Re: Funny: Lets list all the things ppl say are mundane attacks.

All the daemon player I had a game with yesterday could come up with were impact hits... The sad/funny thing is that I had cast 3 high magic spells that turn out of the unit and they had a 4+ ward anyways... I also big template miscast my high mage at one point and I could tell he was about to explo...

Re: High Magic - The real challenge...how to protect the mages.

4+ ward and book of hoeth... I don't see the big problem. If you are putting him in a unit of seaguard or spears for the anvil, you go 5 wide with an anointed and bsb and the mage is in second rank. If you go mega anvil PG or hammer WL, he still will on average have a 2+ ward save (with the exceptio...

Re: Furion's thoughts on the new armybook and cost of units

I am with minsc all the way on this one. I disagree with 85% of Furion's analysis. However, I will focus on the two points I most disagree with: The Anointed, and The Loremaster. I have played 2 test games already, one against a rock solid Chaos list at that. In each these two characters have been m...

Re: Feelings about the new book

I'll have to reserve ultimate judgment on the book until I can get several play tests in with different builds, but currently I'm a little apprehensive on the release. The loss of SoA as well as the vast majority of our magic items (although to be fair I fully expected this under the new 8th norm b...

Re: Feelings about the new book

What's aggravating is that they have the +1 to ward save as the high magic lore attribute, but the mage (Loremaster) you actually don't mind getting into combat to utilize the ward save isn't able to cast high magic spells. That makes the Lore attribute just more of a mage bunker buff. Not ...

think they remain 15 pts while the SM and WL cost 13 pts each now. Damn if this is true, I will be sad. I thought PG had finally found a place of equal or greater footing to the WL and SM. As it is they are still almost as viable an option, but I think with those extra 2 points, I will be going bac...

Re: New release the 90% confirmed Many Many new updates Page1

Thanks so much to everyone who have been selflessly reporting all the new information from the book. While the price is missing on the PG on the blog, assuming they are still the same cost as WL and SM, I gotta say I see PG being the New Go to unit. Not taking too many buff spells into consideration...

John Rainbow: Some very good ideas. I very well may go with your silver helm dp swap. So I am back from the tournament, and I ultimately tied for second. (I won the prize in a roll off). The tournament had no draws and minor, solid, major, and massacres (massacres were nearly impossible to get, needing to win by 2200 pts, especially since half units were getting half vp.
