Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
. The Seaguard are my second secret tech in this ranged war. Whilst the sisters dance at range, the seaguard move up into the mid-board. If my opponent ignores them in favour of chasing after the sisters, they bring themselves into the seaguard's close range. If they shoot the seaguard, however, su...

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
Example of list for 1500point? Hi WhiteSword, In truth I haven't thought about 1500 at all. If I may I'll restrict myself to reiterating a general principle, being that it is usually better to do something well or else not bother investing in it. You don't want a "bit of everything" only ...

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
Hey Seredain, one topic I mentioned, you missed commenting on I think - or maybe I am just blind going up to the weekend: The only thing that's left is Magic. So: Loremasters Cloak instead of Ruby Ring? or are the avg. 7 hits S4 hits/turn too juicy to pass up? or Ruby Ring +1 Lodestone? There are s...

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
You pose a great question. I mean Holy Cow! The rubber really hits the road with that army of yours. For the moment it's a purely theoretical army 8) I drew it up as a thought experiment to see what you could face at 2500pts. Mainly because people mentioned that going higher in points meant fewer m...

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
One thing I have been wondering about in the discussion about 2500pts, is that it also allows some nasty stuff to be brought along. You could go with a double star dragon list that includes 4 monsters and a bunch of hard hitting cavalry units. Something like ++ Characters [1247 pts] ++ Prince [491 ...

Re: Bolt Thrower's High Elves
Thanks for the replay, Seredain. My biggest fear with the first list was not participating in the shooting phase much at all. I worry about softening up larger targets a bit before engaging and am hopeful the bolt throwers and sisters can help with that. I am sad about dropping the swordmasters in ...

Re: A new painting blog - OK Army project: More Ironguts
I for one would be happy for my ogres to be pounded by your superior tactical skills, were we to meet on the battlefield. It would be both fun (despite the pounding) and instructive for me. Alas, very unlikely to happen given the distance. Kind of you to say my man! No tactics any more though. Just...

Thanks. I’d better get this army finished.

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
On page 209 of the rulebook, under "Characters In Combat" it is written that "In combat, a character that has joined a unit... Can only have Impact Hits or Stomp Attacks directed against them if there are fewer than five rank and file models in the unit." I've then read through ...

Re: A new painting blog - OK Army project: More Ironguts
Master,
I am loving your paintwork. It's absolutely splendid.
Ogres had a bit of a hoodoo on me in 8th Ed. Enough that I began to develop an irrational dislike for the models. But these are so nice that I don't even think I'd mind watching them pound my silver helms to bits.
Bravo!

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
One topic I haven't seen discussed is: You can "Courage of Aenarion" your Prince on Star Dragon, (or any other unit for that matter) then run away out of Dispel Range. The opponent cannot wizardly dispel. Because he has to be in Range of the wizard who cast - not the actual taget.... Fate...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
My point was that frankly the monsters are just so much better than any infantry unit, or even cavalry unit. At the moment in any Old World competitive list it's very hard to look beyond maxing characters on flying monsters. Infantry and more conventional armies (which I'll probably take to a tourn...

Giladis, Thank you very much for the work you're doing keeping our vessel in ship-shape. Hope is always last to die but in this case, we actually have our reward with Old World. Hoorah! Re: Bolt Thrower's High Elves
Hi Bolt Thrower, Great lists! The second iteration feels nice in that you can prep your primary target by shooting them before hitting them with your big charge. I love the griffon prince and can see him being exactly the kind of support that silver helms need. DPs might be less threatening in 5s bu...

Given the lack of responses and high views, I consider the questions settled. They're not much of a problem and they can be managed. Sorted :D Hi Pash, Thanks for posing the question. Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
Late to the party. The list logic tracks. In particular, I think this is the first list I've seen that leverages our Honors in a way that does more than unlock the ability to take a mount or join a unit. Interesting stuff. I'm still very wary of Impetuous and the traps that someone could set, prima...

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
Hi S, I just noticed you are list building for 2500 points, do you think this will be played over 2,000? 2,000 v 2,500 in the New Old World Sparky, My gut feeling is not only yes, 2.5K will be played, but also that it's preferable. At first I thought not, because the new bases were bigger and, beca...

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
NHB, Rod, Thanks both for the interesting comments. Skirmish / Open Order interactions With regards to skirmish units reforming into open order and / or back again, for the reasons NHB sets out above it'll rarely be worth spending your movement phase on it on any turn in which you start in skirmish ...

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
Interesting read. I haven't even tried to make any army above 2000 pts. The closest I got to that was transferring my current T9A HE army into ToW points to see what is the difference. Hi Giladis, Thank you. I started with a 2K dragon list, upgraded to 2.5K because the points per model are still co...

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports
THE OLD WORLD COMETH Hi Chaps, What an exciting time! After chiselling away at the rock for a couple of weeks I think I’ve settled on a new army list. The units are sometimes new but the aims are the same: Firstly, to use the High Elves’ talents across movement, magic, shooting and combat to focus ...

Re: Cavalry Prince
Sparky this is a great list! It looks like a lot of fun to play. You may find that your helms make a good screen for the swordmasters, too, against shooting lists. More robust than reavers. Against armies that outshoot you that'll be clutch! A lion chariot is a nice unit to slot between the cavalry ...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Three games in, including a three-way game, some thoughts: - Tested Drilled on 7 Swordmasters in 2x4 formation. Old tactic, new formation. Worked very well. I can see myself adding these bricks into my normal armies. Hey Axiem, Could you please explain this tactic in a bit more detail? I suspect it...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
NHB, Happy news! Impetuous doesn't stop you from restraining from pursuit (unlike frenzy). I think I will screen them with reavers and arrows anyway, but if you do unleash the dragon princes you can at least set up some good counter-charges for them with restraint & reform. High magic plus princ...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Thanks NHB. I think it works. The charge rule says you are not allowed to redress the ranks (inter alia) "during the charge move". Drilled specifies that the redress takes place "immediately before moving" and the unit may then "move as normal" (NB not restricted to rem...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
The only thing that I can see that might hint at RAI, is Manoeuvering During A Charge on pg. 126 of the BBB. It states: Unless stated otherwise, a charging unit cannot perform a turn, move backwards, move sideways, redress the ranks or reform manoeuvre during its charge move. But that begs the ques...

Re: A Look at High Elf Rules in The Old World
Axiem the logic looks good to me but I’m unclear on the rules for the order of steps in the movement phase. I hope it works, because that would be exciting horsemanship and superbly useful. Speaking of which, I’ve a rules question for you chaps, if you please, concerning the Handmaiden’s Horn of Is...
