Re: My take on the Cavalry Prince - attempt 2

Ok Nemo, I appreciate what you're trying to achieve with the Prince's unit. I personally feel that the lack of re-rolls is a big issue, even with Ld 10 because if you lose combat for example, you could easily be heading for the hills. There may be a way around this though. I should say though, that...

Re: My take on the Cavalry Prince - attempt 2

Ok, so based on SpellArcher's post, I am trying to re-work my characters a bit. I think my Prince is the best-equipped that I can manage - Strength 7, re-rollable 2+ Armour Save, 6+ Ward Save (2+ against Flaming) and forces the opponent to re-roll successful Ward Saves. Without a buddy-character, I ...

Re: My take on the Cavalry Prince - attempt 2

What I suggest is solidifying one list and then building others Nemo. I was considering two "levels" of list because most of the feedback from other places has been about the lack of things like the Frostheart, taking any Spearmen, and other tournament-level competitiveness (rather than t...

Re: My take on the Cavalry Prince - attempt 2

Spearmen are fine in a full-on combat list like this, I think. They're our cheapest models, and 5+ armor can be handy in the right matchup. "Fine" is the best I'm ever going to expect from them really - providing bodies/holding up units/distracting the opponent is their main role, and the...

Re: Need a hand choosing a province to fit my theme

I have done a little more thinking on this issue: I will not be going for a Caledor theme, partly because I feel a Northern theme is best, but partly because I am very keen to use the Caledorian pride arrogance against the [insert province here] prince's success. It was a good suggestion, but I thin...

Re: My take on the Cavalry Prince - attempt 2

Right, I have knocked up 2 lists that are probably relatively decent, as I could not decide whether to take a Frostheart Phoenix or not: List 1 - Cavalry Heavy Prince: Giant Blade, Shield, Dragon Armour, Dawnstone, The Other Trickster's Shard & Barded Elven Steed (290). Archmage: Level 4, Hand W...

Re: Need a hand choosing a province to fit my theme

Go for an Elven colony somewhere in the Border Princes looking to expand Eastwards, tempted by the riches of Ind... I'm not sure I would head in the "lost Elven colony" direction as it steers a little close to the wind of the Wood Elf background (one of my other armies), and some of the f...

My take on the Cavalry Prince - attempt 2

This is my second attempt at my Cavalry Prince list, hopefully this time the topic will be a lot less confusing! What I have here is the "core" of my army, featuring the models I really want to field (be it for theme or beautiful sculpts). As I am relying on a core of Spearmen to fit my th...

Need a hand choosing a province to fit my theme

Hi folks, I'm building an army based on Classical Macedonia (and Alexander the Great's campaign into Asia) but I am really struggling to choose a province - a rather significant problem as it will alter what support elements I will add to the core of my army. The Macedonians were viewed as being pra...

Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions

This is an absolutely amazing log. Excellent conversions and painting.

I would say to either remove the saddle, or at least turn it into thick fur - stags are a little hairier (and bulkier) than horses, after all.

Re: My take on the Cavalry Prince (2500 points)

Before commenting on your list I think I need some info on what sort of feedback you're after. You've said yourself you don't think the list is optimised, but is it your aim to do so? The most obvious thing is that you're spending way over min-core, so if you were to scale back the spearmen you cou...

My take on the Cavalry Prince (2500 points)

Hi everyone, here's my take on the Cavalry Prince list. Seredain 's blog has been a huge inspiration and an incredibly useful learning tool, and whilst some may argue that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I wanted to take a different approach to the army based on the same source material...

Re: Anti Dark Elves tactics

I disagree. First off, for elven armies (and others with expensive characters), rare is in effect a subset of special. You have to take 25% core and you will very rarely see an army without at least 25% in characters. This leaves only 50% of the army, which leaves you with the choice to either take...

Re: Anti Dark Elves tactics

Can someone explain the logic (from a lore perspective or not) of putting magic casting units in the Dark Elf book, and not High Elves, and making Reaper Bolt Throwers special, and not Repeater Bolt Throwers? This is REALLY bugging me. We got the Loremaster, a choice which is still pretty good all ...

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports

Nemo, Basically, what John said (and SA concurred with). Str 7 allows your prince to do things that ordinary elves cannot and, when you're only toting 4 attacks (or 5 on the charge), +1 to wound tough models, and taking another -1 off their armour, is a very big deal. The crown of command is not, h...

Re: Quite a sad thing for tabletop communities...

I don't really see this as a case of GW being evil, to be honest. As far as I understand it, Beasts of War was affiliated (in the legal definition) with Wayland Games. Wayland Games had a contract with Games Workshop (for trade) that the terms were updated, which meant that any discussion on Beasts ...

Re: The Cavalry Prince - List Design, Tactics, Battle Reports

Hi Seredain, Loving the log - it has been very inspirational (I had the same ideas for an army, and finding this log was so useful when I was starting out with the old book) and with the new book it has been fantastic to see how your army has evolved. I still prefer to have a phalanx of Spears in my...

I like this topic - I don't have a huge amount to add as I am still rather new to Fantasy (I have spent a long time going over rules and army lists, but I have not had the time to actually play many games unfortunately). I too enjoy using Spearmen as the core of my army, although I do not really thi...

Re: ASF+ASL vs. ASF

I don't have much of an opinion as I am still struggling to sort this out in my head, but getting this sorted one way or another is very important - not only for our own Swordmasters/White Lions (particularly fighting against Dark Elves) but also because of the Frost Phoenix' aura. It might be a cas...

Re: Anti Dark Elves tactics

You might want to check the ASF rules again. ASF vs ASF = go at the same time, not go at initiative. So against us the initiative of their units does not matter, except when going against WL and SM, since then it determines if they get rerolls or not. And most things will get rerolls, since they ar...

Re: Anti Dark Elves tactics

Why are RBTs a wash again? You can take 4 for rares for a mere 280 points. In a single round of shooting, that's 24 S4 AP shots. It should be used with your Longbows to completely decimate units so they become combat ineffective. A Fiery Convocation on one unit and 3 units of Archers on another wit...

Re: Anti Dark Elves tactics

My takes on the new Dark Elves are: 1) Their units now have ASF, cancelling ours out (though they still get re-rolls from Hatred), and the likely-to-be-popular Witch Elves have Initiative 6 so will go before anyone except Dragon Princes and Phoenix Guard. Both of these units should pose problems for...

You have invested a lot of point in core. I would drop the Archers for Sisters. I guess you take 2 block of spearelf for your thematic army. Having too many pts in core is not really what I would recommend. ... If you really want to keep those 2 block of spears, why not dropping the Silver Helms to...

First off I really like the feel of your list(even if the big bird feels abit out of place) The bird probably feels out of place at the moment - partly I'm including it to get *something* competitive out of the new book (lets face it, multiple Spear units are not really the best choice, I'll just h...

The Macedonian Cavalry Prince - Adapting to the New Book
