Re: Deployment - Prince with Wayshard + Shadow Armor
Yes, perhaps you are thinking of the ability of Scouts to deploy in their own deployment zone and still be able to charge in the first turn of the game.

Re: HE win Throne of Skulls
Yeah, generally speaking when a normal-sized unit does a swift reform, if it turns into 2 ranks/files then it's almost certainly fine- occasionally I've seen people swift reform into congas and move troops way farther than they're allowed, but that's not the case here. It's a pretty good move as man...

Re: HE win Throne of Skulls
I left turn 2 pal Ah so you weren't really being too cheesy after all :D Looking at the report again it does follow that this reform happened turn 2 so that's good, but I thought I better emphasise it anyway as a lot of people forget (like Lord Anathir in this thread ;) ). [qute]plus i think there ...

Re: HE win Throne of Skulls
Thanks for posting, and a lovely, well-painted and balanced army as well, great work! One little thing though, and bear in mind I haven't played the Watchtower game in a long time so I hope I'm wrong, but isn't there some rule saying your watchtower unit cannot leave the building turn 1? Not a fan o...

Re: Models wih Random Movement charging
I agree with everyone here. You can only break the 1" rule during the "moving chargers" sub-phase. Seeing that random movement is in the compulsory movement sub-phase, there ain't no 1" rule breaking to be done! I don't think this is technically correct, as the movement of rando...

How did they make their boosted charge turn 1, they couldn't have had Hand of Glory on them by then? :p Just messing with you, I know you must mean turn 2. I'd love to try Alith Anar out if I got more games. I might feel a bit bad about not being able to march his infantry unit up while still firing...

Re: Disagreements during game
Yeah, it's a great help, especially when considering charge distances- prior to eighth edition measuring any charge that had a wheel in it was actually really difficult and we just had to plod on and try not to be idiots about it! As for the overall topic, it's tough, but you have to learn to stand ...

Interesting set of reports, thanks! Sounds like a high-powered tournament and you know what you're doing, I'd love to see what you can do without Taclis and triple Frosthearts. Congrats on the great performance though! Are you sure you didn't miss the BSB when Caradryan failed to kill Throg? I've ch...

Re: Swordmasters / White Lions Debate
What a funny discussion. Why are we discussing the likelihood of 2 lots of 10 Swordmasters getting into both flanks of the Phoenix Guard? I mean, sure it could happen, I have faith in good generalship, but that’s like saying that chariots don’t deal much damage because they might get charged by Dwar...

Re: Is the End in sight for the silver helms bus?
I don't understand how it could get to the position of your entire bus AND characters shot to death in 2 turns. That means he must have had a good first turn's shooting- so why didn't you take the hint and run your characters 18" to the nearest infantry unit? Literally, adapt or die. I guess it...

Re: Is the End in sight for the silver helms bus?
Do you think it’s possible to keep a cavalry bus in reserve? Deploy them in the corner, use turns 1-3 to root out and kill off the Waywatchers and then advance rapidly for the final three turns. In fact, in this matchup, most people seem to be assuming the cav bus is a bunch of Silver Helms containi...

Re: The Future of the Asur
The Asur are an unchanging race; even if you look at the background from a few hundred years before the “present” day they are described as being in decline, cities nearly empty, the usual. 100 years wouldn’t really change much- the actions at the end of Sons of Ellyrion were pretty extreme, but not...

Brets can be a tough matchup, especially when their trebs get a good first shot off. If your Phoenix destroyed one of the trebs you didn't need to test to restrain.

A lot of words in that rumour topic, but not much actual content. Big things are happening with 9th edition, wow, really, who would have guessed? A new rule for shields? Next you'll be telling me that there are different magic items. Maybe some different magic spells too!

Frostheart Phoenix vs Gyrocoptor is an interesting scrap: with average dice you probably won't kill it on the charge, meaning the Phoenix is protected from the Dwarfs' shooting for a turn. Though the Coptor might just flee...

Re: Can Flying Chariots March?
Pfffrp, think bigger, they should have fixed this years ago. Flying chariots have existed since the start of 8th edition, with the Black Coach, followed swiftly by the Tomb Kings' chariot belonging to Arkhan (which is doubly banned from marching as it's a chariot and Nehekharan undead).

Re: banner of discipline + spirit leech
Why isn't he allowed to use the highest LD in his unit? We have an FAQ saying explicitly that his "unmodified leadership" is that of the highest LD in his unit. So if the PG has a LD of 9, and the unit gets +1 from the Banner, that would seem to follow that he has a LD of 10 to pass on. Ma...

Re: Can Flying Chariots March?
I agree with his re-wording of it, because all he is essentially changing in the text is to add "if allowed to do so". This is a tautological rule that is present in almost every rule out there (along with "except for exceptions), and (both) could be added to nearly every permissive r...

It's okay hans you can say "5 points", the GW mafia will not have the site shut down as a result! Great reports, that did not feel like such a big loss to the Dwarfs, the 20-0 just seems to happen out of nowhere in what seemed like a pretty close game. I ran a similar style of army a while...

Re: Is skullcannon grapeshot flaming?
The justification comes from the ironblaster. If you read its grapeshot rule, it doesnt say that the ironblaster CAN grape and its str is 10. It just says that its grape str is 10. It clearly implies that there is no question that the ironblaster can grapeshot. So, I followed that precedent. Ah I s...

Re: Is skullcannon grapeshot flaming?
I don't undestand the reasoning "grapeshot has its own profile >>> therefore Skullcannon can do it". When I was reading that post I thought the fact Grapeshot had its own section was going to be used to say it shows it's not a normal cannon shot and needs special permission to be used. But...

Please, let's not turn this into another cannon discussion thread. Let me guess, you're the kind of person who, on a grim March day, looks up at the sky, and turns to his compadre and say "At least it's not raining". And then it starts raining! So don't do that if you don't want it to rai...

Well, if we're talking precedents, then it is would be quite the risky precedent to use the argument that "it has no precedent" as a reason to question a rule! I wouldn't even say it has no precedents, or even that negative precedents necessarily exist anyway. This is starting to remind me...

I've enjoyed Chris Wraight's other WHFB offerings, although I haven't read any of the War of the Beard series yet; if I were to read them, I would definitely start at the beginning. But if I were to start a new Time of Legends series, I would recommend the Black Plague series instead, which are grea...

Re: HE faq by Ulthuan.net?
I really like the idea of a good quality FAQ in the same vein as the Dark Elves one, but I'm hesitant to really support them. Simply because, an FAQ should be a living document. Every change to a PDF document requires a lot of rigaromole to discuss, change, upload and then get everyone else to downl...
