Re: Another player's analysis of units in the new book
I found most of the reviews to be somewhat in line with how I have been feeling (while not play testing much). But I sort of disagree with the dragon Mage rating. I agree that he is a rather weak choice, but he only got better really. Losing his extra dice does suck, but he generally didn't cast tha...

Re: Silverhelm darts and their accompanying Mage
It would seem to me to only be beneficial to put the Mage in the group to get a ward save off of his spells, but in a dart you want him behind the front rank so only hex and augments work. I think a dart of two wide and three back out be better and not hurt as much if it bounces or dies on the way in.

Thanks much for the reply. I thought I was right about them not playing it correctly, but didn't want to cause a issue only to find out they were right in the first place.

Stat checks?
At the local store there was a small point tourney where everyone was saying that even though you can modify a stat, if you take a stat check with it the modifier isn't used as the brb say look at the base stat when making the check. So if I miasma a unit from I4 down to 2, and then pit of shades th...

Re: First time 1000pts HE army, advice please
The 20 Phoenix guard are fine. The white lions should be fine as they would function as flankers/support to the PG and can form up in a 4x3 block and still get all their attacks. If you drop a musician on one of the archer regiments you can upgrade the Mage to level 2.

Re: 1200 pt Tourney
I would go lore of shadow or metal with a level four as it those two can really scare high armored foes. I would try to get banner of swiftness on the sword masters so they can get where they are going faster. All in all I like the list.

Re: Giant Blade or Leaping Gold - which is better in combat?
The blade of leaping gold is a no go for 70 points. Just take sword of bloodshed and a strength potion. The only way I would run the blade of leaping good is if I already had the sword of bloodshed, and lets be honest, that's a very odd list in the works right there.

If you are going to run the banner of the world dragon I would give it to the white lions and give their banner to the Phoenix guard. If it was me, I would drop it all together and run an extra eagle.

Re: Against the Ogres (Advice sought, 750 pts)
I agree on bringing an eagle. While its true that it will get stomped in combat verses ogres, it's one of the best ways to screw up their movement. And more lions would be much better as it doesn't take much to kill 10, even at such a low point level. As far as characters go, the Mage with miasma se...

Re: The Loremaster of Hoeth
The first list is better. If models are limiting you the only suggestion I have is to drop the level upgrade on the Mage and use the savings on a dispel scroll. If models aren't limiting I would cut as much fat around as you can until you have 50 extra for a Great Eagle.

Re: Against the Khemrian hoards
TK infantry are hardly worth their weight in plastic. Just ram any of our infantry blocks into them and watch them crumble. TK are the weakest book that fantasy has seen in a long time. Spears, sword masters or white lions will crunch any skeleton unit in a few rounds of combat. This is coming from ...

Re: IoB - Beginner ready, really ?
GW did a very good job of making both the fanasy and 40k boxes a rip off that is only evident when you open it up and see what you actually don't have. The real shame is that they are meant to be a way to get new players into the game, but it seems the only new players GW wants are those who make si...

Re: What are people's thoughts on tomb kings?
Tomb Kings are one of the biggest tragedies in 8th edition. The only way to run the army anyone once had in 6th and 7th is to pony up a ton of cash to get a boat load of stone cats and pray you don't fight any armies with: 1- magic removal spells or 2- a modest amount of cannons. Having played them ...

Re: Less magic items in 8th?
GW listened way too much to the people that cried about fantasy being too magic/ magic item dependent (and these same people in my experience are the ones who will always be seen using the most broken combos in the game... cough cough Dark Elves cough) so accidently made magic way too powerful in so...

Re: A thought on the Lore of Fire, has anyone tried this?
I ran a list with max spell casters all running with fire one time. It would have worked better if I had remembered to add the d3 to the casting role! Fire is a sort of under rated spell set, and the rules for picking the lore before set up is sort of to blame as fire does not have that 'end all spe...

Yeah I noticed that too, but need to have some red on the model to tie it to the rest of my army. I am going to add a few washes and inks to it to darken it a bit and see if that helps tone it down.
