Re: High Elfs win both Best Overall and Best generalat the Q

Quake is the premier tournament in the USA in my mind and I've now played in all 5 of the master's regions in the states (although its been awhile for some so there could have been improvements). But the scene is outstanding (what's better than downtown San Francisco?), free beer on Saturday AND LD...

High Elfs win both Best Overall and Best generalat the Quake

In a last celebration of 8th. ed., High elves performed very well.

Should have results posted this week.

Yep, tail end of 8th ed. should be a blast with Quake City around the corner and ETC right after!

Re: MSU HE vs Beastmen - 27.06

Entertaining and close game. I watched parts of it as it was going on, mostly the second half. I felt like the Beastmen player was getting to greedy on turn 4. He sent each mino out to hunt down its own elven regiment. You expertly sidestepped them and while a missed swift reform roll might have und...

Re: Bragging Rights results?

Indeed, Ld2 came in the dead middle of the pack. Our individuals scores reflected it as well, with every team member scoring between 50-54. I think we will change our team name to Joe Average. Last year we were ahead of the meta, while this year we were behind and it showed. We did win Best Team Spi...

Re: Looking for warhammer fantasy clubs in San Francisco!

Non-GW models are fine at all the Bay Area tournaments. Pretty sure all the California tournaments other then those held in GW stores. As long a they are ont eh proper bases it is fine. Non-painted and even some proxy is fine during Thursday night gaming. Often times people are trying to figure out ...

Indeed, leadership 2 out of Oakland is the largest club in theBay Area. We meet Thursday night at Endgame in Oakland. Guys start showing up about 6. We generally play tournament practice games. Right now it is either Lonewolf/WCGT games -Swedish comp at 2,500 or ETC comp pack. However, if you show u...

Re: MSU HE at CanCon 2015 - Game 1 - Deployment

I think this has the chance to be an interesting match. SM has small advantages in shooting and magic. Keeping a single unit from being charged by more then 2 chariots will be a key.

Looking forward to reading about it.

Re: MiniMe Tournament - Game 4 - 27.12

This is much closer to how I would have approached it. The B&G deployment allows your fast units to get into those blind spots much more quickly as you observed. Adam obviously has some counters, seeing you place the DP Eagle Nobles centrally he could have had the Peg Knights angle during vangau...

Re: MiniMe Tournament - Game 4 - 27.12

Excellent game and well played on Adam’s part. This is one where I could nearly predict how it would go based on the deployment (admittedly a little birdy told me the result before the Bat Rep). The biggest error was your movement to the flanks. This left the middle wide open. This was the exact fea...

Re: MiniMe Tournament - Game 4 - deployment

Nah (though that is always a consideration). You will always have times when you have to risk a bad panic test, my comments from the previous game were just pointing out then when you can accomplish an objective and avoid potential panic tests, you should do so. I look at the opposing forces and thi...

Hm, indeed, that was reckless positioning of reavers on my part that could have resulted in losing both units. Thanks for pointing that out. I think I was just too eager to get to the bolt thrower. Second point is even more interesting! I am ashamed I missed that completely! Indeed, forcing PG to f...

Re: MiniMe Tournament - Game 2 - 17.12

Having played both Skink Cohorts and Skrox, I find they are often underestimated, especially when there is a krox present. Perhaps why I would want to take them on the charge. I did not catch the failed charge by the chief. Speaks to the caution needed to avoid units getting in each others way when ...

Well played on both parts. Generally like the deployment strategy but have nit picks on both sides. LM- I think I would have started the skink chief in one of the skrox units. With Vanguard from Tetto, he still would have started forward and would have been closer to your line. He would have been pr...

@Baleanoon- As I said, both club mates bringing the uber characters are doing it more for the paint points then bringing the best designed list and yes they accept the risk inherit to their build. so got a game in and watched another game. We are doing Waagh Paca prep, trying to figure out what armies to bring. The BRB states that a casting attempt is successful if the opponent fails to (or does not attempt to) dispel the spell. Where does it say this? Per page 32 "If the casting equals or exceeds the spell's casting value, the spell is cast" Dispelling takes place afterwards and if successful m...

I actually found the magic phase to be more random and turning on a single D6. did you roll high enough to use enough PD to cast the spell? Did your opponent roll high enough to have access to enough DD to dispel? Not sure spamming is a dependable tactic. By my reading a spell can not be cast a seco...

I view them as a suboptimal choice for WoC and DoC (where they compete with Beasts of Nurgle in special).

Beasts of Chaos can use them.
