Option 2. Nothing to discuss; it's clear in the rules.

Re: High Magic
The high magic helps you against chaff, helps your movement phase and it is good against hordes and other units that don't have high armour. You need help against those? Those things I can handle pretty well with various troops. I cannot handle nasty monsters, 1+ saves, and unit destroying combat c...

Re: 2500 list needed advices
I think two big Helm units is a big mistake. Make one bigger unit with both nobles and with the saved points add unit unit of Reavers (or two) to help with board control. Better yet, replace one of the nobles with a Prince for more hitting power.
I'd probably send the BSB with the Helms too.

Re: 2500 tourny list
With the amount of regen monsters out there, replacing one bolt thrower with 5 Sisters makes sense. Better yet - replace the Shadow warriors with some Sisters. Currently the Annointed does not seem worthwhile to me. More White Lions and an Archmage ward save is cheaper and better than his contributi...

Re: 1000pt High Elves
Even if the champs were legal, the whole thing is too many upgrades and not enough guys. I would drop most of the magic items and some of the command upgrades in favor of larger numbers. I really don't think Reaver Bow is ever worth putting on a Mage. You'll never hit on better than 4s and usually b...

-Archmage lvl 4 w Book and ToP -Loremaster w 4++ armour, dispelscroll and Ring of Fury All reports posted so far indicate this is a poor idea, because there aren't nearly enough dice to make both worthwhile. -BsB w HA, Lion Cloak, sword of might, shield of the merwyrm Lion Cloak seems useless since...

The job of the Helms in the bus is mainly to provide hitpoints for the characters. Hitting power comes from the characters. Taking a banner to improve the hitting power of the troops is not improving their contribution.

Re: 001. New book, Grudge match against Skaven
abom's follows the rules for monster when it comes to line of sight. He has to have his enemy in his front arc to charge him. Only lone characters and skirmishers can charge in any direction they want. Both things are incorrect there. The Abomination has random movement, so it does not charge. It c...

Re: 2500 points - First timer versus Dwarfs
I meant the same thing you did, that any attempt to cast would just get dispelled and with a solitary mage, that first dispel is all it takes. That's what I thought you meant, and it is incorrect. Having a spell dispelled does not break concentration. Failing to meet the minimum casting value break...

Re: 2500 first game with new book
It was tight, but I won the first game against an O&G gunline type army. He sat back to let his artillery and Foot of Gork kill me. Two Stone Throwers, two Doom divers, and 4 spear chukkas do hurt. But I was able to whittle down the artillery with Reavers and shooting, and he go no contribution ...

You guys keep mentioning the improved armour save on the dragon, but the dragon's Toughness went DOWN too. The breath weapon is certainly better, but overall the dragon itself does not seem better to me.

Re: 2500 points - First timer versus Dwarfs
Could a loremaster or archmage really get much done against dwarfs, particularly alone where one dispel ends the magic phase? What do you mean by "one dispel ends the magic phase"? With this new book, probably we could not get any magic through against Dwarfs, baring IF. A combat lord on ...

Re: Beginners 2,000pts - Lothern Themed
They fit the theme, but it is hard to justify including one Sea Helm, much less two. There should be no problem having a generic Noble from Lothern. Admittedly the Sea Helms aren't that much worse than a basic noble, but your list gains almost nothing from Naval Discipline either. If you want Sea Gu...

2500 first game with new book
Two things first: 1) I don't think Lore of Metal is worthwhile generally, but I'm taking it anyway. I don't believe anything in our book outside magic can handle WoC, Empire, 1+ saves and Monsterous Cavalry, and I think Metal provides more help there than other lores. The army will have to find a wa...

Re: Starting over again: The new HEs-vs Brets 2500
Once it dies it can create a no go area, that's pretty cool. I don't think the damage is enough to justify that conclusion and I don't think the area covered is big enough to be highly significant. A big infantry block won't be willing to center itself on the marker, but they won't have any qualms ...

6 Silver helms w/mus - 148 5 Ellyrian reavers - 85 I think the musician would be more useful on the Reavers than on the Helms, but I'd probably leave it off both and buy another archer instead (5x3 archers). 5 Dragon princes w/mus - 155 As above, why have a musician on such a small unit? I'd rather...

Re: Starting over again: The new HEs-vs Brets 2500
I think more games are needed to really come to this conclusion. D6 S4 + Another D3 per rank means that this guy obliterates lightly armored blocks by simply flying over it. Not really. 40 Skaven slaves, 5x8. d6+7d3 hits is about 17 hits, which kills about 12. 24 archers (similar points) at long ra...

You're complaining that a level 2 fire wizard gets +4 to cast instead of +2 to cast/dispel? Unless you'd ONLY run a Dragon Mage I personally think that's an awesome rule as it makes his casting a lot more potent. Since he used to get an extra dice per cast, which is equivalent to +3.5 to cast, AND ...

Re: True Line of Sight???
could maybe point me to some pages in the rule book or FAQs? No. True Line of Sight is the absence of rules. It is GW being lazy. The only statement in the rules is effectively "whatever the model could really see". In practice, it is extremely difficult and rare for a unit to block LOS, ...

The Sea Guard look horribly out of place. I don't see what they can really contribute, at least without taking a LOT more of them. Maybe one unit of 40 would help, what does 2x20 do that more cavalry wouldn't do better?

Planning to put those two characters in the Swordmasters makes no sense to me. The Swordmasters have no defense to help protect the characters. The characters reduce your hitting power more in Swordmasters than anywhere else. With no defenses, the characters must avoid combat, but a Swordmaster unit...

Tethlis, there is little hate for Sisters of Averlorn here, which is what you are talking about. There is plenty of hate for the Handmaiden, which I think is easily justified. Instead of giving Quick-to-Fire to the unit, buying more Sisters with the points that could be spent on the Handmaiden is wa...

I think the big LSG unit is a bad idea, and the lack of light units is a weakness, but the biggest thing that absolutely makes no sense to me is the PG unit. How is that unit worth much, and how is putting the Prince there anything but inviting his death? With no static CR, no resistance to breaking...

It is not magic resistance. It protects against all damage that has the property of being a magical hit (ex. can hurt ethereals). Miscast damage is magical hits.

I suggesting you play some games with what you have before investing chunks of money in alternatives. You've got LSG, so keep the LSG. Neither spears nor archers nor LSG will be very impressive, so there is no reason to spend money/effort swapping out LSG for another. If you aren't happy with LSG af...

Why Ruby Ring? With no other direct damage, doing a flaming wound in the magic phase is not worth much. Ring of Fury should be strictly better.
Where you need flaming damage is the shooting phase, so I suggest dropping a bolt thrower for some Sisters.

Since we no longer have any way to boost the magic phase, I don't think two lord-level casters can be worthwhile. And that is the conclusion from the few battle reports I've read where it was tried.
