Re: Dragon princes or Silver helms?

I certainly prefer dragon princes, especially with the current meta game. Cavalry buses are the new hotness with large Cold one knight, Chaos knight, Mournefang and bret buses being all the rage. As such metal wizards are becoming more and more common as a hard counter. Dragon princes are almost imm...

Re: Have i completely misunderstood warhammer?

Hi Thanlui, Not sure if it will help you at all, but I played a battle against Skaven at 1500 points with a list not too dissimilar to some of the lists people are recommending on this thread that it might be worth reviewing: http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=37117 Playing Skaven...

Re: Brewmaster D's Mighty Empires Blog

@ Curu, I love the idea of the hard hitting and fast moving list, I was discussing something similar with Elithmar of Lothern http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=37161 on his flying circus thread, using similar principles but with more eagle characters and no dragon. I think a list...

Re: The Flying Circus - ETC Rules, Eagle Riders Heavy

Hi Elithmar of Lothern, As you know from our previous discussion I like the flying circus immensely, as I think it is really fun looking with a huge amount of utility if used by a clever general. Commenting on the list I would definitely have a BSB on an eagle so that if a noble is slain you have ld...

Re: Ulthuans Guardians - growing from 1,500 points

Hi Curu, The thing with Swordmasters is that they pack so much damage from one rank. As such, I believe they deserve to stay rather small. With this kind of list in particular, it's easy to hide away small units of them. If the enemy needs to advance, you can bring them to bear where you need them. ...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

Hi Curu, Really interesting post on winning combats decisively, I couldn't agree more, the strength of the list lies in remaining unengaged with the enemy, controlling their movement, blasting them where it hurts and if required smashing an approaching threat as quickly as possible in close quarters...

Re: Ulthuans Guardians - growing from 1,500 points

Hi Curu, Thanks for posting, as always your comments are really welcome. As for your list, i believe it's fine @ 1500 points. High Magic is in my opinion the best lore for this kind of army focus. I think I probably agree, although I think the key to making the list work against all comers is the su...

Re: 1500 pt Tourney help

I like the army in general, very good use of the figures you have available. I would suggest a couple of potential options to consider: High magic may be a good choice for the archmage, with flames of the phoenix and fury of khaine great attacking spells and shield of saphery a great spell for prote...

Re: WTF 2 Dragons for a Tournament!?

The more I think about it the more appealing the flying circus is. They will almost certainly be in combat turn 2 so the enemy get 1 round of decent shooting at them. with 5 separate units for the enemy to shoot and 3 of them being the general, an archmage and a BSB the choice of target is difficult...

Re: WTF 2 Dragons for a Tournament!?

That list may suck against some armies but it will be great fun to play! Have you considered Armor of Caledor and dawnstone on the BSB? I think a BSB on a great eagle with this item combo is a really classic character and great value. He has 3 wounds and a 2+ rerollable save for protection, 3 attack...

Hi Baeronvonbleat, Interesting game. Not facing skaven before, it looks like you had good fortune in combat! Re: Ulthuans Guardians - growing from 1,500 points

Any thoughts on the magic lore for the list? High magic has a lot of advantages for the list, but I can also see the lore of light being useful with some missile protection from Pha's against gunlines and the potential to hit all units with a Timewarp. Banishment is also quite a tasty spell in the r...

Re: Curu Olannon's Vindicators - 2500pts Army Blog

Shooting his Dire Wolves was a mistake. Park your Eagle in front of them, and let his own unit of wolves block the knight bus. If your general and BSB stay close, the Eagle should easily hold against the wolves. Eagle actually has a good chance to win combat after the charge, since you average almo...

Hi Curu, It was enjoyable to read the report and they are always appreciated. Thanks Brewmaster, I'm a big fan of your mighty empires blog and appreciate the comments. You had a tough string of luck here, especially in the first turn, but I think you recovered well. I view the greatest threat to a list like this to be a situation exactly like this, where your opponent is able...

As an aside to the main battle we had another battle today where he took his warrior list and I took his 1,500 points of rats. To keep a short story even shorter, rats got turn 1, curse of the horned rat = 15 dead warriors and lvl 4 sorcerer to be replaced by clanrats. Chaos move forward. Turn 2 rat...

Battle report - 1,500 points - High Elves vs Skaven I was expecting to play my friends warriors of chaos list last weekend so I was surprised when he brought out a new Skaven army. Ulthuans Guardians - growing from 1,500 points

Speaking of Stubborn, steer your deathstar clear of this unit: http://z3.invisionfree.com/Orc__Goblin_Warpath/index.php?showtopic=28781 (scroll to the tenth post for the bankai variation) That is filthy but I can't see it being too effective. Thanks for the comments Nicene, now that I read back over my own report you are right, apart from the opportunity for a big pit on turn 1 the dice just seemed to go to waste really on shadow. Re: Large Stubborn Death Star Blocks - A workable list?

Yeah, go for 75 white lions, 26 archers, and 26 archers. You'll be golden. Don't forget the Banner of Swiftness. As funny as this would be to see the look on your opponents face it is very mean. Still, this army would give away very few points. You might need a magic weapon in there to deal with et...

Re: Large Stubborn Death Star Blocks - A workable list?

Well I think it's safe to say the loremasters cloak is not the way to go and that the horde list probably wont work. Perhaps using a prince with a 2+ rerollable save and stubborn crown as a 1 man road block for a big enemy unit and take annulan crystal on the Lvl 4 for magic defence may be a better ...

Hmm, i didn't realise dwellers would negate the cloak designed to offer a 2+ save against all magic - makes it sound as useful as a chocolate tea pot. Is there an FAQ on this? It says in the army book it offers a save against wounds caused by spells and the army books usually take precedence. I thin...

Large Stubborn Death Star Blocks - A workable list?

Hi All, I am working on a nice fluffy and balanced list at the moment and decided to take a break from that to have a quick look at death stars which is something I tend to see in a lot of armies. The question is whether it is viable to have 2 death star type units in 2400 point list. Lords Prince -...

Re: 1500 points - first time battle vs Warriors of Chaos

As another note, I found army composition for 1500 points very challenging for high elves, and I decided in the end to opt for a wide selection of small units for combined charges rather than a few large blocks. What is everyones view on composition at these low point levels? I am likely to be playi...
