Battle of Tiranoc
By Lord Anathir
The Battle of Tiranoc

“Lord Anathir paused but a moment to look at the sun rising behind the Anulii Mountains. H knew he could not linger long without issuing orders to his Tiranoc force. A day before, Scouts had spotted a tough Chaos force descending the mountains and heading towards the primary city of Tiranoc, the province of Ulthuan most widely know by the all Elves for their chariots. Anathir now looked before his force of Elves arrayed before him each one glittering with a full suit of chain mail armour, silver polished helmets, and blue, silver and white shields. Trumpets sounded in the distance, not the crude harsh horns of the beasts of Chaos, but clear and majestic. A small envoy from the Loremaster’s tower in Hoeth marched to join Anathir’s forces. At their head were the famous Archmage Bel-Annar, and his student-teacher Aerod. Surrounding them were none other than 100 Swordmasters, the finest Elvish warriors the world has ever seen. Along with his cousin Feanor, Anathir began to outline his plan with the unexpected guests. He planned to trap the foul scum of Chaos in the centre with massed ranks of spearmen and hopefully break them with strong cavalry flank and rear charges.”

“The Commander did not have long to wait before the forces of Choas appeared on the horizon. Chaos Knights, Dragon Ogres, Spawns of Chaos all marked with Khorne appeared in their hundreds on the Chaos battle line. As 30 chariots of Khorne appeared behind the ogres, Anathir wondered how many of his fair host would live to see tomorrow’s sun. Anathir quickly ordered the forming of his own battle line. A block of 190 Spearelves formed the centre, supported by 100 Swordmasters on one side and 60 Silver Helm Knights on the other. On one flank, 30 Chariots lined up on the hill, while the other flank was occupied by 60 more Silver Helms and 20 Repeater Bolt Throwers. In front of the Spearelves 50 Scouts fitted arrows into their bows. Feanor and Anathir mounted their Great Eagles and prepared for the battle. From Afar, Anathir glimpsed the Chaos General mounted on a Juggernaut. He knew that they would meet in combat.”

“The Spearelves, the militia of Tiranoc, prepared the shield wall and closed ranks. Silence fell, the enemy advanced. Spears flickered as they were pointed horizontally towards the enemy. The Fair blue and white banners of the Elves fluttered in the wind, prayers were muttered, arrows notched, and swords, lances, and spears were drawn. From the air, looking down from his eagle, Anathir drew an ancient bow, a longbow of this forefathers, he knew he would reek havoc with his weapon. As the enemy charged, he uttered a solitary cry: “FOUL SCUM OF CHAOS, YOU WILL NOT CAPTURE ULTHUAN, HOME OF THE ELVES, THE FIRSTBORN, THE ASUR WHILE I STILL DRAW BRETH!” The battle of Tiranoc has begun.”

Chaos:

4 Dragon Ogres
3 Chariots
2 Spawns
10 Hounds of Chaos
9 Knights of Chaos
1 Chaos Lord, Blade of Blood, some other items I cant remember.

Turn 1:

The whole army of chaos advanced; being a Khorne army they neither had any shooting nor magic. The High Elf RBTs fired in to the unit of 9 Chaos knights….slaying 4 of them! The scouts also inflicted a wound on one of the spawns of chaos while Anathir with the Reaver Bow inflicted a wound on the Dragon Ogres. In terms of magic, a comet was successfully cast in the middle of the field but failed to come down. Also, the Ring of Corin negated one of the Chaos Lord’s magic weapons. Feanor on the Great Eagle charged the Chaos hounds on the right flank and destroyed them completely.

Turn 2:

The Chaos Knights and Dragon Ogres charged into the Scouts, who elected to stand and shoot at the Chaos Knights, and killed 2 of them! The Spawns and Chariots were also moved up. In combat, the scouts were completely killed, and the Dragon Ogres and C. Knights overran into the Spearelves. The Comet previously cast came crashing down, destroying one chariot and wounding the other two twice each. The Swordmasters flanked the C. Knights, the Silver Helms charged the Dragon Ogres and a Chariot flanked the Ogres, making one large combat in the centre of the table. Another chariot charged one spawn, while Anathir on his Great Eagle charged the other spawn. The RBT finished off another chariot, while the 6 knights on the right flank wheeled to face the last Chariot. In the combat phase, Anathir destroyed the first Spawn but the Chariot rolled a 1 for impact hits and the crew and steeds failed to hit! The Spawn promptly destroyed the chariot with 7 attacks. In the large combat in the centre, the Chaos Knights and their General along with the Dragon Ogres downed 10 Spearelves and a Swordmaster. The Swordmasters took out a C. Knight, while the Silver Helms and Chariot took at one Dragon Ogre. With superior numbers the Elves forced a tie in the combat. The Ring of Corin once again took out another of the Chaos Lord’s magic items.

Turn 3:

The final Chaos Chariot charged Feanor on the G.E who fled as a charge reaction. The Spawn did not roll enough for movement to make a charge on Anathir. In the centre conflict, the Swordmasters took out another Chaos Knight, leaving only one and the Lord. The Chariot and Silver Helms failed to wound. The Dragon Ogres inflicted a St. 7 wound on the Chariot, (WHY…WHY DID I CHARGE WITH THE CHARIOT?) destroying it immediately. A few more Spearelves were killed. However, due to the flank charge and outnumbering and the War Banner, the Elves once again forced a draw. Feanor rallied his G.E after fleeing from the chariot while the Silver Helms rear charged the last Chaos Knight. The Third Chariot also flank charged the Dragon Ogres. Anathir charged the flank of the Chaos Lord and declared a CHALLENGE! The Lvl 4 and RBTs destroyed the last Spawn and Chaos Chariot, Leaving 3 Dragon Ogres, 1 Chaos Knight and the Chaos Lord left. In Combat, the Silver Helms that charged this turn destroyed the last of the Chaos Knights while the chariot inflicted a few wounds on the Dragon Ogres. The Spearelves were completely wiped out that turn, and the original Silver Helm unit was reduced to half. The slaying of the last Chaos Knight freed up the Swordmasters to charge the Dragon Ogres next turn. In the combat, Anathir inflicted 2 Wounds on the Chaos Lord, as the Lord had lost all magic items to the Ring of Corin except a 4+ Armour save. And ironically, the Great Eagle finished off the Chaos Lord by rolling a 5 to wound. With that, the Chaos player surrendered and accepted defeat.

------

“Anathir now glimpsed the Chaos General in the midst of the battle hacking down Spearelves and Swordmasters. He knew the time had come to face the vile leader of the enemy. Crying fair words to his noble steed, Anathir flew down from the sky and pierced the Chaos Lord with his lance, wounding him not once but twice. Already weakened by the original attack, the Lord put his guard down and did not see the eagle’s talons make a strike towards his throat, piercing it. With a thump, the once haughty Chaos General collapsed to the ground. So ended the battle of Tiranoc. The fair city of Ulthuan remains standing because of the bravery of the Elves and their general, Lord Anathir.”
