| A Further Telling of the Tale: Sebekneru Prince of Battles, Chapter Seven: A New Dawn |
| - by Lady Si'anelle |
Her sense of relief did near to overwhelm Ae'thenal when she awoke and found herself to be lying amidst the litter of the forest floor. The dawn was begining to bring light beneath the canopy lessening the gloom so that as she now gazed about herself a little she could make out the trunks of the great trees.
"Did I but dream?" Ae'thenal did now ask herself. "Or did I truly pass the night within Slaanesh's citadel?" By the quick beating of her heart within her breast and also by the chill sweat upon her brow either of these might well be truth. Then she scowled as the Banepearl did mock her with its hateful whisperings as was its habit. Though on this occasion she could not ignore the substance of its speech. If the wicked thing did speak true, and more the often it did not, then she had indeed suffered an audience with Slaanesh Lord of Chaos and had not merely dreamed of it.
:Be silent: she did tell the foul object, :You shall be fed the blood you crave soon enough: Except this dawn the Banepearl would not have her rule and did sting her most painfully for her words to prove that she was no more than its lesser servant. She might well have cast the Chaos thing aside then to let it lie where it would, save that the sound of a branch being snapped reached her ears. And in quick succession other sounds as if several persons were making a loud and untidy progress through the forest. A harsh guttural voice raised in annoyance and then the sound of a well rounded slap with a following squeak of pain did further increase the noise that was stealing away the forest's silence.
"Orcs, and several Goblins are also with them; - and moreover they are close at hand," Ae'thenal did now softly tell herself. If she continued to lie still amongst the forest litter perhaps the shadows of the great trees would serve to hide her. If not, then she had slain Orcs often enough before this new dawn. |
