The Aftermath: The Last Battle of Lord Nachri Before The Walls of Middenheim
by fireblade
Nachri was pleased. Two months after he landed on the old world, chaos had been defeated. The fight at the northern causeway was heavy. Almost his entire army had died, but with him, his proud eagle's phalanx was still standing. Not far from then was a saphery contignent, led by the archmage Ellydian. These fabeled masters of the blade, came to the aid of Nachri's army when help was needed. Together they managed to hold of the attack of the army of Haargoth. Nachri could still feel the pain in his arm.

Nachri closed his eyes and he was thinking about the last day of the siege. In his dreams, Asuryan had spoken to him, telling him he had to charge. Who was he to question the will of Asuryan. The next morning, Nachri and his eagle's phalanx, together with the keeper's of the light of Ellydian, charged trough the gap in the wall, they broke trough the lines of blood-frenzied chaos warriors. Suddenly Nachri saw Haargoth. He knew he had found an enemy that was his match.

Haargoth towered above the tall elf. With an unthinkable speed, he swung his axe towards the elfs head. Only his elf-speed saved Nachri. He dodged the axe of Haargoth. As he trusted his blade forwards, he could see his guard protecting him from the chaos warriors who sought to save their lord. Haargoth parried his blade with ease. The battle continued : Another swing, a parrie, a counter attack, another parrie... Nachri was suprised how well he was doing against the champion of the god of battle. Suddenly Haargoth tripled his speed and he arced his axe towards Nachri's neck.

Nachri raised his shield but haargoth cut straight trough the shield, driving his axe deep in the arm of the elf. Nachri cried out in pain, and Haargoth, who smelled the sent of blood, attacked with renewed feriocity. Nachri raised his sword to prevent haargoth of severing his head, but he could not hold on for long anymore. "Asuryan has betrayed me. I will die here together with all my friends"

Suddenly a white blast made haargoth fall on the ground. Nachri looked where it came from and he saw the mage Ellydian. Immediatly, hundreds of chosen chaos warriors stepped in front of their lord to protect him from the mage. Nachri ran back to the keeper's of the light and the eagle's phalanx. They formed a defensive circle. Despite their best efforts, it seemed as they would be overwhelmed. The mage did nothing anymore, he just seemed to be trying to see something, maybe he felt the pressence of another wizard. Suddenly a loud cry of agony came from the chaos host.

High in the air, the emperor Karl Franz was riding on his loyal eagle deathclaw. With him came a lot of Bretonnian pegasus knights, hunderd great eagles from the annulii mountains, ridden by the fierce lords of tor ithian. Each of the lords was wearing a large lion cloak over his shoulders. Amongst them was Ilthar, a proud lord of chrace, bodyguard of Lord Aislinn the pernicious, second only to Korhil himself. They descended on the chaos host in a fury of wite light, launched all over the field by the mage Ellydian, he was reading from the mighty book of hoeth. But the battle was not yet won.

A mighty lord on a chaos dragon was diving through the air. He descended on the eagles. On the ground, dragon ogres joined the fray. The lord killed a brave pegasus knight, cutting him in 4 pieces with blows faster then the eye could see. Then karl Franz smashed his runefang straight on the neck of the dragon. But as he fell, the dragon fired a large ball of fire towards the emperor and his griffon. Both would have been incinerated but the loyal Ilthar picked karl Franz from his mount, saving him. Deathclaw tried to escape but he could not. Deathclaw was crying in pain, and moments later is was silent, and he was never seen again.

On the ground, Nachri's bodyguard, the eagle's phalanx, fired a hail of arrows towards the dragon oges, killing two . Now the dragon ogre's reached the swordmasters. The keeper's of the flame held them of, chopping legs, decapitating them with a singel blow. But they were no match for the raw power of chaos wich flowed through the dragon ogres. Suddenly the dead dragon fell on the ogre's killing ten of them on the impact. This was to much for the chaos host and they began to flee.

Nachri opened his eyes again. Everything had gone well. There had been a lot of casualties but middenheim was save. After the battle, the emperor mounted a horse and he rode to the southern causeway, were archaon was. The pegasus knights departed to the east. Ilthar said it was the great mage, teclis who had sent them to the northern causeway. This news suprised Nachri a lot and when he asked Ellydian, he said he indeed called for aid. Of haargoth, none knew, some think he was dead because of the blast, whilst others think he is regrouping in the middle mountains, though this is not confirmed.
