| Step-by-Step Guide to Painting a High Elf Spearelf |
| by ekxw |
Welcome. This step by step guide will show you how to paint a Spearelf to a decent standard.
Materials Required:
A paintbrush
PVA Glue or alternative
The following Citadel paints:
Chaos Black
Skull White
Graveyard Earth
Boltgun Metal
Dwarf Flesh
Burnished Gold
Brown Ink
Chestnut Ink
Snakebite Leather
Elf Flesh
Blood Red
Regal Blue
and Goblin Green.
Step-by-Step Guide:
1.) Undercoat the miniature in black – this will be useful for when we are doing the metallic armour, plus it gives natural shading.
2.) Paint the helmet, cloth and spear shaft with brown. Paint the armour, spear head and scale mail with boltgun metal. Using dwarf flesh paint the hands and face. Any areas which will be gold, paint with graveyard earth for now.
3.) Apply gold paint over the brown base coat where you want gold, such as the crest of the helmet, near the blade of the spear and the gauntlets.
4.) Mix brown ink with chestnut ink and a drop of water. Apply the wash all over the miniature including the armour and spear blade.
5.) Paint the helmet, spear handle and cloth with a layer of snakebite leather. Dry brush boltgun metal over the spear head, armour and scale mail.
6.) Mix brown paint with some white and highlight the brown areas from the previous step.
7.) Continue adding white to the mix and highlighting the areas.
8. ) And repeat...
9.) Apply a final pure white highlight. Ensure you mix some water in with the white so that the highlight blends in with the layers below.
10.) Paint the face and hands with dwarf flesh, leaving the previous colour showing in the recesses.
11.) Apply a highlight of dwarf flesh mixed with elf flesh to the flesh areas
12.) Apply another highlight of pure elf flesh to the skin.
13.) Mix elf flesh with a white for the final highlight. Pick out the lips with a mixture of blood red and dwarf flesh.
14.)Paint the eyes as follows:
Paint the eye socket black
Apply a small dot of white to one side of the eye socket
Paint another dot of white to the other side leaving some black showing inbetween.
15.) Highlight the golden parts of the model with a mix of burnished gold and brown. Paint the trim around the scale mail in regal blue.
16.) Paint the gems. To see a how to paint gems, read my guide to painting gems.
Editor's note: Article currently not available. The Library staff apologise for any inconvenience caused.
17.) Paint the base in Goblin Green
18.) Apply P.V.A. glue to the top of base and dip it in static flock.
Voila – one above tabletop standard spearelf.
