The pestilence models are starting to look amazing. I'm looking forward to seeing them in action. And they might put up a better showing than clan Skyre.

I'm wondering if you could have done anything different in your battle. It went from bad to worse very fast. And you lacked mobility to change a lot after T1. Maybe moving back a bit to give yourself another turn of shooting could have helped. But I'm not sure if there was space for that.

Thanks guys!

A shooty army is rarely the right choice against Undead, especially when they rock 3 Zombie hordes. I put faith in the Doomwheels - slamming them into the Black Knights had decent chances of succeeding but was hardly reliable. Once I was in the grind there was no way out really - though perhaps I should have stuck with firing more warpfire into combat...

Anyway, Throt is finished:

And a lit Mordheim campaign is underway in this time of school shut-downs:

Thanks! I'm working as a GP currently - luckily 95% of visits have been moved to phone/online which limits my exposure and stops all those ill people from coughing at each other in the waiting room! My wife is a doctor as well, luckily in a non-clinical field.

I did some rats the other day:

Those rats are epic. Great use of your bits box.

My wife is a doctor as well. She's a gynecologist, and so far she's managed to avoid any corona cases. But it does bring a lot of stress and uncertainty. And a lot of flexibility. Like you, she's on the phone a lot. And each day is different from the one that came before. It's "interesting times" for sure...

Yeah, with O&G you sometime have to act too fast to really use any protection and a lot of the consults are rather hard to do by phone. Wishing you wife all the best!

Meanwhile, some more stuff. I added a few layers of paint to my older HE minis, including the unfortunately-no-longer-canonical Eltharion the Blind:

Love all the bits and bobs on the rat swarm bases, and Eltharion the Blind is a fantastic model.

It just struck me that most of your armies have fairly similar colour schemes. Any particular reason for that? Personally I think I'd want to go for something completely different, so it would be interesting to hear your thoughts.

Thanks guys :)

The white on Eltharion's cloak is lovely. How many layers did that take?

Also, your scenery keeps reminding me that I have to assemble and paint my graveyard. It's just such a versatile terrain piece. :)

@Elithmar - so true! I just love crimson and beige, I guess. I try to go for different colours for different armies - empire is primarily blue, Skaven were supposed to be green, but after a while I just switch to my favourite combinations. Call it muscle memory

The graveyard is incredible! I'm looking at getting even more scenery - every piece goes a long way to keeping the battlefield fresh, terrain doesn't cycle quite like models.

I keep adding layers of white to Eltharion every couple of years, so I guess I'm somewhere around 20

I can understand that too. And I suppose if you ever use one of your other armies as allies, all of the models will be united by crimson and beige!

The rock wall looks pretty nice. I've made a couple myself. And though they're not that hard to do, they're a bit boring ;) So having a great place to get some is always nice.

No idea, I don't use any rules! The terrain is very nice though:

Image

I played the third battle of the VC vs each Skaven Great Clan mini-campaign. Took Pestilence for a spin - Skrolk, Plague Furnace, 2 units of Monks, some PCBs - the whole lot. They did well - but as usual the Abomination did most of the fighting - killed Krell and his Grave Guards, a unit of Skeletons, some hounds. Then it died, then it came back to life with 6 wounds! Its efforts were undermined by Skrolk, who is worth nowhere near 470 points. Despite casting a Plague that killed:
4 Black Knights,
24 Zombies,
10 Skeletons
13 Plague Monks
20 Skaven Slaves
... and wounded Kemmler, his contribution to the game was minimal and he got routed by a Vampire and some Black knights on turn 5, nearly costing me the game. Still, it was a minor victory for the Ratmen - I'm 2:1 going into the final battle - Clan Moulder will be taking the field in the coming weeks.

As a side note - my opponent has been tested negative for SARS-CoV2 the day before

I agree with the tower at the bottom. It looks great, even with GW tendency to overdo the skulls...

Its been a while!

Not dead, and quite healthy but I started playing the piano to keep sane through the pandemic so that takes up a lot of time :)

My cousin moved into the neighbourhood and we revisited some classic clashes:

5th edition HE vs DE
Image

5th edition Skaven vs Empire
Image

6th edition Empire vs Chaos
Image

8th edition Beastmen vs Dark Elves

I also painted some stuff:

Great to see that you're still alive and sane (though that does raise the question how we would verify this. If you're mad you'd probably still clai mto be sane and you would just call the rest of the world mad...).

Those look like some epic battles. Though I did spot some unpainted empire hand canoneers (?) in there. So you've got some more painting to do ;) I realy like the skaven assasins. They're lovely moedls and the painting gives them that dark, competent look.

Camouflage, how sneaky. It's more something I would expect from skaven...

Though, to be fair, I would want to be well hidden if there were a bunch of chaos warriors running around.

Nice pictures. I'd love to see more of those armies fighting each others.
How did it went ?

The skaven assassins are great. I'm not really familiar with skaven models but I'd guess they are old metal version, right ? The feeling is really different from the newer models. The new ones are more dynamic and look awesome but the old ones feel more alive and somewhat "realistic" (like this is what a skaven would look like if it existed).

Though, to be fair, I would want to be well hidden if there were a bunch of chaos warriors running around.
Classic skaven ... I'm a bit disappointed Prince of Spires ...

Its been a while but I'm back with another battle report!

5th edition. Skaven vs Empire.

Image

Skaven advance

Image

Hellblaster misfires on the first shot - classic. A special 5th edition rule meant that it actually fired a full salvo (9 artillery dice worth of shots!) - killing several Stormvermin.

Image

The Doomwheel joins the fight but is quickly chopped to pieces by frothing flagellants.

Image

My swarms move in on some Nordlanders.

Image

Rat Ogres get assaulted by the Empire General and his men. They fight back viciously but to no avail.

Image

The Empire Wizard Lord suffers a hail of warpstone fire, yet survives.

Image

The Grey Seer and his retinue clash with the Knights of the Blazing Sun.

Image

My General challenges the enemy caster, who flees in disgrace.

Image

The Grey Seer and Empire Lord face off - both are left on one wound as the battle ends.

Its a minor victory for the Skaven!
cheers, Lee

Always great to see another battle report appear here :) That looks like a pretty brutal fight, with some wild swings both ways. Congrats on the vicotry.

Was there a specific reason to pick 5th edition? And are there any models in the painting queue?

Thanks guys!

It was a very fun battle with the two "general vs top wizard" duels being highlights.

We picked 5th edition because I brought my Warhammer Magic box from my parents' house and wanted to give it a spin! Ah, the memories of playing Escape, Total Power, Drain Magic...

Painting is somewhat slow but I did a small skeleton team, and I'm finishing up my Beastmen (2 Centigors and 2 Shamans).

We've also had our third baby 5 days ago!
