Nice! I had only ever seen the 6th edition Ruglud orcs from the Chronicles

Post them up here when they're ready Shannar!

I'm looking at normal Big'uns Rod. They are at least 2pts cheaper and can bring a magic standard, which Savages can't. The latter tend to go with two hand weapons but the 6+ shield Parry makes some sense for my guys, especially as I'm intending to bring some punchy characters.

I have a rough idea, I'll post something up at some stage. I like the Flying S6 a Wyvern brings but he compromises the rider a bit.

Yeah. Monster FTW! ;)

I find the Wyvern model great. I'd love to own one :) Just see the rider the same as the SH models in a cavalry bus. A bunch of excess wounds that allow you to field the model. : )

Which Wyvern model? I love the really old one. The middle on is ok. I'm not sure what I think of the newest one.

This one (image courtesy of the GW website). It's just such a grumpy looking monster.

If by newest one you mean the maw-crusha thing then I personally think it's pretty horrible. It's just some generic blob of a monster somehow.

That's what I meant by the newest one. From some angles it looks fantastic, and is clearly the best one they've done. But from others it looks a bit overdone. But you are correct, but much better than the very newest one.

The problem is Rod I really need my General central and safer from shooting, especially for the Ld 4 Trolls. Great Shaman rider might be doable but would eat all the Lord points, requiring a Hero General.

I agree Shannar. Nice model just not quite right for my army I suspect.

If only you could put a goblin on top :)

You're right of course. LD is much more an issue, especially in the goblin focused list you seem to be going for. Having a general running around on a monster away from the rest of your army is all sorts of problems. At higher points (2500 if you go that high) you could consider dual combat lord. I'm not that solid on the O&G army book. But if you want to swing that way, some of the special characters could help you out here I think. Isn't Skarsnik high LD? He would definitely fit.

As usual Rod, gobbos will be light troops and crew war machines. Orcs and Trolls will do the actual fighting.

:)
Prince of Spires wrote:Isn't Skarsnik high LD?
He's an expensive (for O&G) Ld 8 Lord, so not especially helpful with this. Naked Lvl 3 on Wyvern is 325pts, so I could squeeze an Orc Warboss in too at 2000pts but they'd both be pretty nerfed. Make more sense to max out the rider and go for three Heroes I think. Scroll bearer, BSB and possibly a Black Orc , his unit can bring Standard of Discipline for the Ld 9 General I consider table stakes. If the Great Shaman got killed it then wouldn't necessarily be game over.

I now have the last five goblins for the unit (courtesy of a win on eBay) and hope to start work on them soon.

Lol, I just can't decide whether to use white or some yellowish shade RE! I'm a limited palette guy so I want it consistent with the bigger models in the army if possible.

Some sort of yellow/brownish white is the best choice i've come up with.

I used to use Bleached Bone over brown back when I used GW paints. The one I use now is from Reaper, but it's similar.

I've been working on orcs from the late 80s. There is a lot more detail to deal with than at first glance.

Yeah, I see my lone Orc unit as being the pièce de résistance, so I’ll probably do it late on. It’ll be a challenge.

Closing in on the finished goblin unit:

Really looking forward to my Orcs too. I've several awesome Kev Adams guys that I don't remember being as great as they are.
