Cheers guys!

Leaving the Grave Guards with his Vamps accomplished little and left them open to magic missiles. Then again, he was so often successful with running his general solo its hard to blame him. Also, charging the TGs (or waiting to be charged) was the only real alternative. It was always going to be a gamble, especially when you know I'll get some spells in. It was Neru and Dessication in the end - fighting against my horde in full strength, with a 5+ ward up, with his grunts down to S5/T3 could get ugly pretty quick. He'd get a shot at killing Ramhotep though.

Really hard to judge, though in result the battle was suspiciously similar to the previous one (key unit avoiding each other and going for the enemy underbelly). My positioning of the back line was the game-changer. The Grave Guards chewed through everything with ease back then, simply because my deployment sloppiness. Now things were spread out more and I could take the punishment despite crumbling. Especially with the Vampire Lord far away (then) or dead (now) this was crucial as M4 GGs just don't move as well as they fight.

Happy to see I've learned my lessons from last time, even if the game still involved quite a bit of luck on my side. Its taking advantage of it that counts though, as any successful general will tell you!

Meanwhile, I've been busy with the Gorebeast Chariot:

Word are simply not enough to describe it

In a shocking turn of events I've started painting the Warhammer Quest Elf Ranger - a miniature I've been long on the look out for. He got his base colours and washed just a second ago. I'll probably finish him and post the pictures tomorrow :D

I've always loved that model!
I like your colour scheme of choice also =D>

I think he is the perfect model to represent Salendor in the War of the Beard.

Going strong with the Chaos Warriors, but its time to unleash the Leesburg Garrison once again! I've agreed upon a small escalation campaign with my VC friend. It'll be a series of 3 battles at 1,6-2-2,4k points.

For the first one I was thinking of something along these lines:

Wizard Lord on Pegasus, Level 4 Light, ToPreservation, Dispel Scroll
BSB on Pegasus, Sword of Might, Enchanted Shield, Dawnstone, FPA
Warrior Priest on barded steed, Biting Blade, Van Horstmann's Speculum, shield

11 IC Knights, command, BoEternalFlame
6 Knights, command
6 Outriders
5 Pistoliers, champ with brace/repeater
Steam Tank

So, all mounted to keep those slow undead guessing. Some solid shooting and magic missiles to get rid of the chaff/Vargheists, the Tank to hold things in place and the IC Bus to show who's in charge!

Remember Brewmaster D? He always said that a solo lvl 4 Light was competitive. Good all-round spells.
RE.Lee wrote:Warrior Priest on barded steed, Biting Blade, Van Horstmann's Speculum, shield
So the Biting Blade helps vs Ethereals. It also isn’t affected by your Flaming banner so still works vs Dragonhelm, Dragonbane Gem etc.. Does the Speculum let him take a Vamp Lord on?

Should be interesting tactically.

Especially when so mobile! Keeping the light casters out combat has been the key issue - their timely evacuation in the last battle won me the game, the pegasus should facilitate things this time.

The IC Bus can take on a lot of things (you are correct about my thinking regarding flaming/magical attacks), though probably not the Vampire Lord, even with the Speculum. Its designed against a small vampire perhaps or just to make my opponent nervous

Looks fun :)

I like light as a lore. It has a lot of utility in both offense and defense, especially against undead. And it's a very low casting cost lore, especially with a lvl4 who could in a pinch 2 dice all spells except for the boosted versions (though to be on the safe side you probably want 3 for some).

The only thing I'm wondering about is if the range of the lore will not become an issue at some point. It's not a problem for the hexes / magic missiles. Their boosted versions have all the range you need. But the augments only have a 12'' range. And with all your movement you could find yourself out of range of your own units. Especially for the bubbles of the boosted version.

Fair point though I don't think I've ever managed to cast a bubble buff with Light #-o The Wizard Lord could actually hang out relatively close to my units, as long as he's not in arc of sight, helping the tab team of BSB+IC Kinghts. The other units are support at most, though I'm counting on the Steam Tank doing something of course

Indeed

Battle will likely take place next week, we're figuring out the exact time.

In the meanwhile, I've been adding some finishing touches to my 2 units of 18 High Elf Archers. Most needed only bases, a few required highlights, while another couple or two were only base-coated so far. The second unit will use the limited edition standard bearer from the 6th edition big box so I'm rather excited for that :D

I'm also expecting the Empire Wizard kit to arrive this week or the next - plenty of conversion material there, so I'll be doing a Balthasar Gelt on a Pegasus and several ones on foot :)

I like them. I'm assuming the ones on the right are more done then the left side of the unit. The white on them is lovely. Though I must say I kind of like the ones on the left as well. They're a bit more weather worn, as if they've seen a long campaign already. Gives them a rougher, slightly veteran look somehow.

Cheers! Always a fan of the weathered look, but I've still got my Skaven to do, so I'm saving up for that

Both units are finished - here's them in two sets of 15, with 6 more clone warriors out of the picture (due to trays I had):

Game is arranged for Tuesday! Not sure if its against Dwarfs or Wood Elves yet, but I'm taking this style of 2k list:

Archmage level 4 Shadow, BoH
BSB, GW, HA, BoEternalFlame

17 Archers, command
18 Archers, command
2x25 Spearmen

20 White Lions, command, BotWD
6 Dragon Princes, command

2xRBT

Preparing to get wrecked but I can't help myself  Its likely to be a small escalation campaign, so maybe I'll bring the cheese next time. The White Lions+Dragon Princes are decent enough and perhaps this time I'll manage to cast Mindrazor on the Spearmen?

The Lions should be really good vs Dwarfs because of World Dragon and Pit of Shades could be dangerous RE. You have enough shooting (and Withering) to pick units off and this outranges Organ Guns.

Your Wood Elf opponent tends to bring the big trees, so once again Pit and the Banner should be great and any Enchanted Arrows will be nerfed. Waywatchers and Wild Riders could be a threat though.
