At the moment I'm preparing my list to the TGH Cup V, it's a german tourney, 60 men event with new ETC comp.
As far as I know, there will be a lot of high elves armies, as well as empire, dwarves and warriors of chaos.
Here you can see more detail info:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/110 ... Reader.pdf

I like the fact, that new ETC draft allows me to take archmage and the dragon lord, as I wanted to give him a try since a looooong time, but untill the draft 2 was released, that combination was not possible.
The problem of such a list are POINTS. When I take the dragon and archmage + bsb, 50% of my points are already invested, adding 600p core troops there is no more points left for something serious.
I was testing a little bit that roster so far and for sure I can say, that dragon lord is a badass, well, the star dragon is a badass, our lord not really 8)
It's the first time I have a lothern sea helm in the roster, I've always thought he is just too expensive than a noble, but during playtesting, I missed his combat reform ability sometimes. With high lore, the shield of myrwyrm gives him some chances to survive to combat which I couldn't manage to avoid (it means having bsb and archmage in BtB contact with enemy).

Ok, here is the list, some thoughts come along below:
1 * Prince @ 648.0 Pts
General; Halberd; Heavy Armour; Lion Cloak; Shield
Dragonhelm [10.0]
Talisman of Preservation [45.0]
The Other Trickster's Shard [15.0]
Star Lance [30.0]
Star Dragon @ [390.0] Pts

1 Archmage @ 300.0 Pts
Magic Level 4; Lore of High Magic
Dispel Scroll [25.0]
Khaine's Ring of Fury [25.0]
Talisman of Endurance [30.0]

1 * Lothern Sea Helm @ 175.0 Pts
Spear; Light Armour; Battle Standard
Sword of Anti-Heroes [30.0]
Shield of the Merwyrm [15.0]
Ironcurse Icon [5.0]

27 White Lions of Chrace @ 431.0 Pts FCG
Banner of the World Dragon [50.0]

6 Silver Helms @ 158.0 Pts
Shield; Standard; Champion

6 Silver Helms @ 158.0 Pts
Shield; Standard; Champion

20 Archers @ 230.0 Pts FCG

5 Ellyrian Reavers @ 85.0 Pts (swap)

1 Eagle Claw Bolt Thrower @ 70.0 Pts

1 Eagle Claw Bolt Thrower @ 70.0 Pts

1 Eagle Claw Bolt Thrower @ 70.0 Pts

Models in Army: 69
Total Army Cost: 2395.0
I'd love to take metal lore or even heaven due to buffs, but having just 1 caster, high magic seems to be "all-purpose" solution. I'm considering taking 2x15 archers with Standards and musicians, but it would mean painting around 8 extra archers. The tournament is at 14th February.
I've seen that there will be all in all around 10 high elves armies, which is not surprising as we are quite popular atm. And it means fighting a lot vs BoWD (bus, lions). Final transmutation would be a perfect answer to this. However, vs wood elves, dark elves, metal lore is a bit useless.
What are your opinions about current meta and proper approach to it?

Lastly, I would like to say, that I want to field fully painted army (best painted army competition is there too - I wanna give it a try), that's why I'm taking lions, normally I think I would go with phoenix guards. There are still in progress here...

Great to see you start an army blog too! We all had humble beginnings so if you are persistent you should be all right! I can't comment on the list really, as i always think it is personal preference and as long as you know what you want to do with each element then you should put up the fight.

The additional thing that will attract people to your blog is obviously painting! Any chances for the group photo of the army?

Cheers!

At some point, you have to teach me how to paint. Your army is absolutely amazing. It's kind of discouraging to look at your models...

I really like that you've started a blog! I think it's a great way to chronicle one's experiences and learn how to improve.

The German tournament sounds interesting, from what I gather it's a hard scene with skilled and nice players.

Your list looks fairly solid, but I would try and squeeze in an L1 so your L4 can take the book. There are a number of decent lores out there for an L1, I have a new-found respect for Shadow seeing as Miasma is an excellent 2d6-spell for an L1 which opponents will often let go in fear of what comes next. Also, the Book on the L4 is absolutely brutal.

Looking forward to hearing about your endeavours, best of luck to you :)

Hi everybody!
I know I've not posted here anything serious so far, but now I have a reason to do so;)
I've just come back from the 2-days Master Class event in Szczyrk (in Poland) with epic 103 players in total  :D :D This time I scored my personal best result concerning so many players and I finished 3rd!! :)

Image

It was a great event, part of the bigger fantasy convent and it took place in huge old-school hotel in mountains:

Image

I played 5 very epic games with super friendly opponents and in every round my elves were victorious :)

1st Round - Bretonnia
A bloody battle where dice gods were against my opponent and my dragon lord crushed a lot of brets.
20:0 for my high elves

2nd round - Warriors of Chaos
Very unusuall list based on unit of Archaon!, Tzeentch Lord on demonic steed, 2 x tzeentch mages on demonic steeds, couple of chariots, fast cav.
I couldn't do much vs Archi and his buddies so I killed everything else, losing also few points and in the end the result was 11:9 for my high elves

3rd round - mirror match-up with Teclis
Pretty bloody battle, full of purple suns, dead elves and dragons.
10:10

So far so good. Well, I can't recall all the events which took place there as I had an awfull hangover after Friday's party with warhammer gamers and some random girls  and I barely survived that day :)

4th Round - another mirror, this time based on 2 Frosts, Lions with BoWD and Phoenix guards.
Aua, it was painfull for my opponent as I cleaned the table without losing any point (sic!)
20:0 for my high elves

5th Round (3rd Table) - TK with full shooting and 2x4 morghasts, death and TK lore
The best game I've played ever in my life! :!: :) Every result was possible during the battle, including 20:0 for me or 20:0 for my opponent. We have cleaned almost the whole table, so damn bloody it was, I lost star dragon due to IF purple sun of course in turn 2  :? but still I managed to get enough points to win this battle 14:6.

So all in all I finished 3rd with 96 points, the same as second player with 96 points and the winner with 98. If only you could know how close it was to win this tournament... :) But I'm still very pround and happy how it went :)

Congrats on the result - getting 3rd in a tournament that big is quite a feat! I'd love to see some reports or just photos of the battles - hopefully your opponents had nicely painted armies too ;)

Congratulations! Well done indeed! =D>

But what about Best Painted Army award? :) It is a pity you don't have any snapshots from your game but if you could possible take some during any games you might be playing with friends soon that would have been fantastic!

Cheers!

Congratulations on a really strong performance :)

I always envy the skilled players who also have beautiful armies. Even if I took the time to paint each of my models to the best of my abilities, I'd be nowhere near your level of quality.

What's next for the Winged Hussars? World dominance? :D

Beautiful! =D>

Have you ever considered making a few pieces of your own terrain to replace the ugly things they used at tournaments? That would have been even better to highlight the beauty of your army!

Cheers!

I want to build my own gaming table with my own scenery and so on, but it would be very time- and place-consuming :)
I won't definitely take any terrain pieces with me to the tournaments, armycase and extra boxes are enough luggage

Hello everybody!

So I had my first 9th Age game last weekend and I have to say it is good to play warhammer again :)
I took just everything new, including sea guards, skirmisch sisters, Prince on flamesphyre and so on. Unfortunately my opponent has a very little experience so the play was rather long and boring so I can't really use it to judge the new system changes.

Now I playing with new roster idea, but there are so many possibilities I don't know how to start
Ambushing sea guard with HA seems decent, lion chariot for 90 points is also attractive when we take into consideration the damage output, however in fast list with just cav and fliers they might be too slow.
A lot to test in front of me.
Gonna use Universal Battle to test some new ideas this week :)

For sure I will try sea guards with ambush, I really like an idea of elven (U.S) marines :)
I think also that ridden flame phoenix has some potential to be used effectively, even with mages on top.

Keep us informed how it goes :) I'd love to see some more images of this lovely army in action.

The 9th age certainly has a lot of interesting options. And I think that we've only just started to see the possibilities. With the relatively quick changes in the army books I feel that people are mainly trying variations on old themes that worked, like a cavalry prince list, star dragon list etc. With the shifting options and points cost I think there probably are some missed options in the book that work great.

The lion chariot you mentioned is a great example I think. It's a lot cheaper, got better with a better armour save, multiple wounds and scythes. It would be interesting to see if a list can be build around them. Let us know what you've come up with :)

I would love to see rules for sea battles, or failing that, ideas about combining Man O' War and 9th Age.

I like this list very much and would try a very similar one. But I noticed (thanks to battlescribe) it's not legal, lord points are over 50% (2013p).. You'd probably need to switch the sword of might on the general for a lance or something.

I wonder how would a Skaven tailored list look like (my usual opponent at the moment). The phoenix would get grounded by the storm banner, for example.

So, time to start the 9th Age Chapter with the first live tournament this weekend :)
I'm attending the ETC-Warmup in herford, Germany with my high elves.
It is a big international 8-men team tourney and I can't wait to play live again, however I need to study the rules again :D
After some disscussions we came up with an idea of such a list, have a look:

- High Prince, General, lvl 2, Dragon, Wizards Hood, Dispel Scroll, Beast-Bane Halberd, 485
- Mage, Young Dragon, lvl 2, Path of Fire, Order of the Fiery Heart, Dragonforged Armour, Hardened Shield, Dusk Stone, Tome of Arcane Lore, 362
- Commander, BSB, Great Weapon, Mithril Mail, Banner of Relentless Company, Lucky Charm - 148
- 20 Archers, FCG, Gleaming Icon - 215 –
- 5 Highborn Lances, Standard, mount's protection (5+) - 125
- 5 Highborn Lances, Standard, mount's protection (5+) - 125
- 5 Elein Reavers, bow - 90
- 5 Elein Reavers, bow – 90
- 29 Lion Guard, FCG, Flaming Banner, 446
- 3x1 Sea Guard Reaper, Repeating Shot, 80
- 1x10 Grey Watcher, Bitter Arrows, Longbow, 180

2 Dragons, fully with my theme, 6 spells is also pretty cool, a decent shooting and a Lions rush. What do you think? :)

Yeah, I like the balance between shooting, combat block and support. Oh and the dragons!

:)

Be interesting to hear whether the Dragon does OK compared to an Ancient. A tough event to be sure. I'm slightly concerned about Stupidity on the General, especially if he gets hit with a Ld debuff but it's well worth a try.
