Let's focus on 10th anniversary.
Call it the 10th anniversary of stability. Which after those early years has been really nice.

So what you're saying is that it was kind of like the sundering.
Ah, Floorhammer. A time honored tradition. Sadly, I no longer play since my brother tripped and right-angled the spears of a 15-man regiment.

That's true, though I've only been around for 13-14 of those. Does anyone even remember what month it would be?

I really do wish we could do a campaign again. Do we still have the code from the first one? Maybe we could just have a do-over (which has nothing to do with the fact that )if I remember correctly) we actually lost ulthuan to the Dark Elves last time.

Frankly I think a campaign would be great. Theyre a LOT of fun, and draw users from pretty much every WFB website.

You'd probably even get people like me who have stopped going here regularly to show up.

I'd be willing to put my rudimentary programming skills to use, even.

I'd be fine with minimal to no fluff to go with the campaign, really. Just the game is fine for me.

Campaigns take a lot of time for everyone, but they're fun.

A newsletter sounds like a good idea. It only has to be as often as we can manage - weekly (I doubt it ;) ), fortnightly, monthly or quarterly. We could have regular contributors or pick the best posts from the last few weeks. I think it would be great to collect together a report by Jimmy one by and Swordmaster, maybe have some painting articles by for example Aicanor and Solith, then maybe the odd tactics article by Seredain. A tale of gamers sounds good as well and we could incorporate the monthly challenge.

If we could just get a few dedicated people to organise this, it could be great! I'm sure we won't have trouble with that, with all the great members of this site. :)
"I say the Eatainii were cheating - again." -Aicanor
"Eatainian jerks…" -Headshot
"It was a little ungentlemanly." -Aicanor (on the Eatainii)
"What is it with Eataini being blamed for everything?" -Aicanor

To do a campaign right (or at least as right as we were previously able to - which of course, was horribly flawed, occasionally polarizing and what not. :D ) takes a LOT of time. I think I started building the game engine 4-6 months in advance of the first one I did (which was the second campaign - War of the Beard). I invested even more time into redoing the engine for Hour of the Wolf, which was the same engine I used for Ulthuan in Flames. I spent a few hours per day on it. Then you need a play test group for a month or two. Then the campaign, which I spent 3-4 hours a day on for the duration. And that's just my time, not including Voodoomaster, the other lores, the writers, the mapmakers, the rulemakers, the testers, the ideas guys etc. I think I roped in up to 25-30 people at least to get it all going.

That's not meant to discourage anyone who wants to take it on, but you should know what to expect. I expect the code is still on the server if anyone wants to look at it. I'm sure one of the incumbent lores still has access to it. It's ugly PHP though, because PHP is not my forte.

And RK is of course right, this incarnation of high elves is at the 10 year mark, but ulthuan.com started in 1998 or 1999 or thereabouts as a guestbook. I think there was a real forum by the time I joined in 2000 or 2001.

There very much was, and I think most of my memories of this place are actually from the other sites.

Ugly PhP I can probably help some with (as long as it's commented well enough to know where to start). I was good at programming a decade ago...

I agree 100% on the time involved, that's why if anything I would suggest redoing one of the old ones. It would be very clunky and old by todays internet standards, but that's part of the appeal. It would also shorten the play test time required. It would become more of a "does this still function" rather then a development process. That's assuming everything goes well of course. If not we'd probably have to find a dedicated/crazy volunteer or drop the project.

If anyone wants to do a monthly newsletter, I'd start by asking a few people to email you some written text or or drawn images and putting it in a post on Warhammer Fantasy. Give it a regular title. If it's getting lots of response in a few months then you know the community can support/maintain it. If not you won't have put in as much groundwork for something that's not going to hold.
