The Battle banner is awesome. there's no mistaking it. my question to you guys is: how do you guys use it?
it seems best suited towards something that really needs the push in combat res to win battles. Dragon princes of course benefit as they really need to break the enemy on the charge.
also, phoenix guard get a big kick out of it since they're the unit, out of all of our units, that need static combat res to win battles.
another thought: i want to put the battle banner in my unit of phoenix guard. is it best to put it on a barded steed and given a shield for the 2+ or is having a pg champ around for challenges enough to keep a battle banner on foot alive?

Actually, you have covered almost all the best options.
I would put the BSB on a Barded Elven STeed, since he needs all the protection he can get. Also, be sure to always clear any combatants around him during the combat phase, especially named characters and champions so that they can't strike back at him. With the DPs, give them the Standard of Balance as well.

The Battle Banner should ALWAYS be on a horse. There is no good reason to have him on foot.
Challenges are not the big threat to the Battle Banner. Yes, he'll often die if stuck in a challenge, but a properly positioned enemy character or various non-characters will kill him too. Be careful what he engages and where in the unit he is positioned.

With a DP escort, make sure they have a champ with Helm of Fortune as he is simply gold when it comes to protecting the BB.
