High Elves MSU - Observations
Posted: Fri Jul 06, 2012 2:43 pm
Greetings!
In recent months you could notice that there are a few more MSU enthusiast on Ulthuan. It is great to see more people giving that style a try. New HE army book provides such a huge variety of options that it is impossible to include them all in a single list. You could see that different players pick slightly different regiments and that in turn creates a very nice pool of topics dedicated to MSU style but with very interesting variations.
I was thinking about the way to combine their experience into something more general and I hope to use this topic for such a purpose. While I still want to update the article you can find below with new observations, I am sure it will be even more interesting if other forum members contribute to it. With such aid I will try to update the topic with new sections.
While experience, especially documented with battle reports (for better reference and real games examples) is an asset I also would like to encourage any forum member to participate in the discussion. I also hope that the content that is going to be presented in that topic will be a good starting point for anybody interested in MSU concept in general and with the use of HE in particular.
Let me start with a few links to army lists topics or battle reports by some of the Ulthuan forum members. I am always happy to add to that list so if you want me to add your personal army blog or a battle report, just let me know! Also, if I missed your topic I apologise in advance. Be assured it is purely coincidental.
HE MSU - Ulthuan Links
In alphabetic order:
Cealyne
Cealyne - Army List
Cealyne has just started his topic and he is going to use Heavens Lore as well as 2 Skycutters and a Lion Chariot in his army. These have a potential to create yet another unique approach to MSU style.
Celoril Le'fer
Celoril Le'fer - Battle Reports
Celoril provided a link to his very nice blog and I would love to see more of his games.
de kaasboer
de kaasboer - Army List and Report
de kaasboer uses cavalry core and chariots in his list as well as very small units of Swordmasters.
Eltherion
Eltherion - Tournament Report 1
Eltherion - Tournament Report 2
Eltherion - Tournament Report 3
Eltherion puts his trust in Silver Helms in core but also used quite unorthodox MSU list with two dragons! Quite extreme measures, if you ask me but I think it is also worth reading about!
Ferny
Ferny - Battle Reports
Ferny has started his MSU journey recently and he claims his army list is a hybrid between Nicene's and mine. I hope he is going to post more reports in the future as his debut was very interesting!
Hinge
Hinge - Battle Report vs. Warriors of Chaos
Hinge - Battle Report vs. Skaven
Hinge - Battle Report vs. Vampire Counts 1
Hinge - Battle Report vs. Vampire Counts 2
Hinge is a very experienced tournament player. He also has a huge experience with other armies, Lizardmen, Warriors of Chaos and Orcs & Goblins are the ones I know about. He participated in US Masters 2014 too. It is great he also decided to try High Elves as MSU force as his invaluable experience is a huge asset both in his games as well as discussions.
Nicene
Nicene - Battle Reports
Nicene's unique approach to MSU is probably the best portrayed by his Frostphoenix, Eagle mounted BSB and very small regiments of Swordmasters. Big, flying monster stands out even more prominently in MSU list and so far has served him very well.
Ratvan
Ratvan - Battle Reports
Ratvan uses a pair of Skycutters and Griffon mounted BSB among other choices in his list that certainly makes it very unique. Again, would be great to see more of his games if he is not too distracted by his other army!
ringhtorn1
ringhtorn1 - Army List
Another new army list, in its infancy at the moment, we will see how is it going to develop. At the moment it has 2 wizards, level 4 with shadow and level 2 as well as no BSB. There is PG unit with Banner of the World Dragon too!
I am also going to create table of contents in this post so that you can reach specific sections easier.
I would be very grateful for any feedback about this topic and any single aspect of its contents so don't hesitate in letting me know!
Cheers!

Please, have a look below at the new version of MSU Observations. I hope you will find new version useful.

Some time ago ArchMage asked me if I have some summary on MSU style for High Elves. I didn't but I promised to write one. I have just finished something I might call first draft and I posted it in my army list topic: High Elves MSU - Observations
Be warned it is rather long. But I would appreciate any feedback and I hope it will be of some use to any players, no matter if they incorporate small regiments in their armies or not.
Cheers!
