1- Well I was being facetious about HE female models looking "butch". Example of a --Citadel/GW model(scroll down a little bit to the blonde):
http://worldhistoryprof.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html2- I agree the newer models are a much improved. (Probably due to the finer detail quality of plastic and fine cast)
3- Why does the Everqueen have to come with the Maiden guard. Do the Maiden Guard never venture away from the Everqueen's side?
After all white lions are the Phoenix king's personal guard and we don't have Phoenix King Finubar stated out as a character to field. And most Phoenix kings have gone into battle personally. Something which the Everqueen seems less likely to do, unless under siege as has happened in the HE lore.
4- Not sure how official-cannon this site is( from the miniature game standpoint); but from on hammerwiki they say the maiden guard is 100 strong.
http://warhammeronline.wikia.com/wiki/Maiden_GuardLooking through my web history, I found the site I read that number 100 first:
http://whfb.lexicanum.com/wiki/Maiden_Guard5- Anyways you said they were in the 4th and 5th books what kind of stats and special rules did they have?
1- That's a really bad comparison, being from a 25-30 year old model and from the time of Marauder..

Clicking on the link I thought it would've been this one:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod11303242- I assure you, Fine Cast is anything but fine... some people may like it but I don't and for good reason. Plastic would be (and is, IMO) much better.
3- Well, the "Maiden Guard" are actually called the Handmaidens of the Everqueen. They don't leave the side of their mistress and they have only been obtainable when including Alarielle in your army in the first place, they were never a seperate unit choice. White Lions are of much greater number, esp if we go by 100 Maidens,.. pit that against the "extremely rare" Pheonix guard that number 10,000 and White Lions IMO would number at least 20,000. White Lions also have a life outside of 'being the Phoenix Kings bodyguard' as they hunt the fowl beasties from the Annulii, amongst others,.. And the Maidenguard doo not have a life outside the Everqueen, she IS their life.
4- Good find.
5- From the 5th ed book.
16pts/model
M5 WS5 BS5 S3 T3 W1 I6(which would be the equivelant of I5 now) A1 Ld8
Weapons and Armour: Light Armour, Spears & Longbows.
Banner of Avelorn: any unit wishing to charge them must pass a Ld test or they can't move.
Horn of Isha: lets them fight with 2A in close combat or fire twice in the shooting phase, one use only.
They had the Citizen Levy special rule, which is our Martial Prowess and the current rules for Shooting in two ranks.
They also had Hatred should the Everqueen be killed, and had Immune to Psychology when she was with the unit.
