PROJECT AOA: Phoenix Archers

#1 Post by Cyrannoc »

Greetings Ulthuanites

Ive been mucking about with some rules for units that i've been collecting/painting/modeling/converting over the last couple of months to represent various new unit types that have been inspired by the thoughts and ideas that ive seen in this excellent forum, some of you may have seen these before, so you might be familiar with some of the ideas.
Basically I have been adding to my disgustingly large collection of miniatures over the last couple of months, and painting a set of Five themed armies to represent my favourite parts of Ulthuan and her Armies.

I fully welcome any thoughts/suggestions/criticisms on the following ideas:

My second units are two units of 20 Phoenix Archers, these guys are supposed to represent the standing garrison of archers at the temple of Asuryan, and Im using the old 6th ED shadow warriors (the ones with the sporty boots and nice cloaks) as proxy miniatures for these guys - ive painted thier cloaks to match my phoenix guard cloaks and thier armour and helms have been painted gold to match the phoenix guard too.

heres the rules ive developed for them:

so howbout these guys then, overpowered?, fluffy?, useful?, interesting? - please bear in mind that these are supposed to be for friendly games only, in normal games i plan to just use em as normal archers with light armour.

That's way overpowered. 12 points for mounted archers that causes Panic on the first casualty? They might not have armour but it's way overpowered, specially with Longbow...

One could suspect the bit about barded elven steeds a misprint, considering Cyrannoc says he has been using old shadow warrior models as proxies...

Without the horsies, the unit would still be slightly undercosted. The ability to cause panic tests more easily isn't quite what it used to be, but getting it with no additional cost... Except of course the ultimate cost of moving archers to special choices, which quarantines no one will ever take them.

Make the fiery arrows of scary death rather an upgrade for archer units for say... 2 points a model.

If the mount is a misprint, it's still underpriced.

Let's face it, normal archers with light armour are 12 points already. For the same price it's flaming attack and panic test on casualty regardless the 25% loss...

Make them Core, add 3 points on each with an OPTION of light armour for 1 more point, increase their BS by 1, take away the auto panic, increase the strength of the arrows by 1 and make them 0-1

Well you can Always put it in my New units ideas thread. Personally I think this unit needs to be uped by 2 or 3 points.
