Not completely fair. I think a fair few people are actually playing this (though I have no idea how many compared to WH). They are mostly just not on here. We have a few AoS battle reports in the battle report section. I can dig them out if you want.

I wonder how many former HE players will be picking these up?

I'm just curious. The FLGS near me is starting a biweekly slowgrow league and all these elves are just laying around. There are points and the company actually seems to want to make it a game now, plus there are Swifthawk Agent stuff that seems like I can field an actual elf army so I'm going for it.

Just curious.

Going for like 740 points because the person running it doesn't seem to realize that all points are in multiples of 20 so 750 makes no sense.

A Skywarden, Mistweaver Saih, a Balewind Vortex, a unit of Reavers and 2 units of Spireguard.

Seems like something at least. It's points. I'll just hope for lots of mortal wizard wounds and shooting.

Let us know how you're finding it. The game slowly seems to be evolving towards the game it should have been at launch. It can only be a good thing if more people start picking it up.

This.

I gave AoS a shot at launch but it was absolutely unplayable.

I've been playing it a little... we play with some house rules.

The character targeting rules from 40k.
Better terrain/cover rules.
and
a rule i understand is totally an aquired taste
Simultaneous attacks. Everyone in close combat attack at the same time, so you don't remove casualties until everyone has attacked. It speeds up the gameplay alot.
And sure, it changes how things work for units, glasshammers become weaker on the attack but alot stronger on the defense.
But after many years of playing hail caesar and other such rules systems it is how we want to roll.

I think AoS is ideally suited for house rules. Because the ruleset is relatively simple there are fewer unforeseen consequences. WH always had the issue that if you house rules something in part A it would break something else in part B (as could be seen in the endless balance attempts by the ETC which always just made something else OP). In AoS that is less so I feel.

What are the character tageting rules from 40k (which is a game I've never played)?

You can only target characters with less than 10 wounds(in their base profile) if they are the closest unit.

From what I understand the alternate activations where one of the few bits of meaningful strategy in the game?

We found the alternate activations mostly pointless, and at worst a weird hindrance for multiple charges.

Well the game I played certainly felt familiar. The scenario we did heavily favoured my opponent while being completely detrimental to me. Opponent had twice the models on the table and those models had better in pretty much every way: number of attacks, rend, bravery, etc. Got tabled by demons in like 3 turns.

So it's definitely still Warhammer.

After that I bought Deepkin. Playing with an old army felt completely pointless. Now to wait for the second edition to make it a bit more interesting of a game while I assemble.

Lets see how the new edition works - apparently the rules will be more like 40k.

Yeah, the second editions rules seem a lot more like a fleshed out game.

Certainly a lot more exciting.
