High Elves vs Wood Elves

#1 Post by Live_waaaaagh »

The fleet arrived on the coast, disembarking near the town of Brionne in the southern end of the Bretonnian kingdom. The expeditionary force was led by the Sea Helm and his partner Malaron, a mage trained in the pyromancy. The expedition’s goal was that of research and exploration, and so they marched past the city of Brionne and Quenelles in search of artifacts of magic to study. Their intent was to avoid the forest where their kin dwell at all costs. They had no business with the treefolk.

As they approached the forest, it seemed the trees had a different plan.

Thanks for that!

Fire magic was definitely the right choice here. As said it is good vs Flammable and Magic Missiles hurt Wood Elves generally. In fact, it's probably a good all-round choice for a Mage full stop. The Treemen were always going to be an issue. Big Fireballs help but Banner of the World Dragon was needed on the Swordmasters. Not only does it protect them from Trueflight arrows, it gives them a 2+ Ward vs all Treeman attacks, suddenly a great counter.

The small table might have favoured the less mobile Wood Elves a little. The Scouting might have been a little aggressive, given these guys have a 30" range. The Dragon Princes were a bit unlucky that wounds got past their 2+ Ward, ditto the Eternal Guard but Stubborn 9 is not foolproof. It came down to Infantry vs Treemen, which was never going to end well in the absence of World Dragon.

More please!

Thank you very much for reading and for the comment! I was playing high Elves, so I thought Fire could work nicely. Even if one Fireball wound goes through, it immediately means 2.

I think we might have made a mistake: We didn't treat the Treeman attacks as magical and the ward save we were giving the Princes was their regular 6+. Oops... ?

More to come!

Actually, I play with my wife here at home. She doesn't love painting but enjoys playing every now and then smaller games. I do sometimes test units against each other by myself, though!

You're welcome.

All attacks from Forest Spirits are Magical, per pg 36 of the Wood Elf book. Banner of the World Dragon is very strong because while most attacks are mundane, a lot of the more powerful ones aren't.

Thanks for the report. Reads like a fun game.

It does show that sea guard are pretty decent against other elves. And that SM don't like shooting :)

Thanks for sharing.
