Crusade Practice, 2400p SCGT.
Crusade is the biggest local event in my area, it's held by the Queensland Northern Knights, at a sweet hall in Caboolture, Northern Brisbane.
It's a two day event using the SCGT comp system, last year was a lot of fun, and I expect this year to be just as good.
This year i told everyone I'd bring a double dragon list, but after play testing, I've chickened out and just going to rock a variation of my usual Cav bus.
This was an impromptu battle, Johnny said he had a bit of time before he had to run, and we jumped on UB and got four turns in before he left.
As it was on UB, no real pictures of out pretty armies, but useful diagrams help.

Deployment.
I deployed my defensive shooting elements in the corner guarded by the River of Necrotic Ooze, with my one Combat block in support, my mistake, using my Hammer to guard a Bolt Thrower. I used my Scouts to bait his Cav.
Johnny deployed in a classic refused flank, one flank anchored by his nasty Cavalry, the other protected by a hill and the board edge.
I vanguarded one unit of my Fast Cav up the flank to tease his Treemen, while the other moved over to provide cover for the Sword Masters.
Turn 1.
Johnny elected to go first, taking my bait his Cav charged the Scouts, who fled, and two Treemen had a go at the leading Reavers, who held firm. Johnny wanted to get some early shooting in to take out some support, and did so. One of my Fast Cav units were destroyed, and a crew elf was killed on the Eagle Claw.
My scouts kept fleeing, but I left them behind. I moved up very aggressively. On the left the Heavy Cav marched up the field, in the centre, the Sword Masters did likewise, with the two Eagles flying ahead to run interference. Sea Guard pushed up to the river to use it as a defensive buffer, they half-heartedly shot some arrows at the leading Treeman, trying to distract him from the Reavers who swung around him to threaten the Asrai centre. It was the magic phase that saw the action, with my Archmage summoning a Tempest in the middle of the Asrai lines. Strong winds buffeted the Wood Elves, felling a number and making it hard for the rest to shoot for the next turn. Some Sea Guard paid for this with their lives, as the magic exploded.
Turn 2.
One of Johnny's Eagles flew down to distract my Heavy Cav, while his Glade Guard shot four of the Knights out of their saddles. His Cav marched around the hill to threaten the Scouts, and my Eagle Claw. His shooting had new targets with the Sword Masters closing. The Warriors were being protected by the Eagles, so they had to be dealt with first. One was wounded, and the other killed, which panicked the Sword Masters. That was a huge setback. One of the Treeman, annoyed by the arrows ran towards the Sea Guard, while the other turned to deal with the Fast Cav.
Dragon Princes destroyed the annoying Eagle, while the Sword Masters rallied. My remaining Eagle flew up to support the Reavers, who survived the intense stare the Treeman Ancient gave them. Magic again saw a Tempest hit the Asrai Guard, this time the Archmage didn't fare so well, being sucked into the warp for his troubles. The Tempests were taking their toll on the Asrai shooting.
Turn 3.
Johnny's Cav chased my Shadow Warriors off the table, both the Aggro Treeman moved down to the river, to threaten the Sea Guard. His centre did some fancy shuffling, with the decimated unit of Guard turning to face the High Elves on the flank, the Unicorn riding Heavns Weaver moved to their flank, and the Asrai general moved up to help out. Another two Knights were killed by Asrai arrows.
As we were running out of time, action was needed. Dragon Princes charges the Guard who'd been peppering them with arrows; they left two poor elves alive to run home. On the other side of the field, Reavers charged the small unit of Guard to try and take them out, while the Eagle saw the Asrai Metal Singer, and charged in killing her. Sword Masters marched back up the field, and the Sea Guard without the Mage, reformed in to ranks a prepared to take on a pair of angry Treemen.
Turn 4.
The Unicorn riding Heavens weaver charged into the flank of the Reavers to save the guard, while both Treemen charged across the river, the first one tripped in the necrotic ooze and died, the other grief-stricken stopped to mourn. The big unit of Guard killed the Eagle in revenge and reformed to watch their Eagle friend give its life up to save them from the Sword Masters.
Out of time we rushed through my last turn, the Sword Masters butchered the Eagle, while the unicorn broke my Fast Cav, and chased them down.
Ending Comments
A close game points wise, with just twenty points in it, but it was the secret missions that gave him the win, 14-6 in the end. Some foolish mistake on my part, mostly in deployment, Johnny had a solid game with his eyes on the goal the entire time.

Re: Asur vs Asrai Crusade 2015 practice.
Thanks for the fun report.
Why did you deploy the dragon princes on your extreme left? They would have been perfect to kill the wild riders, or at least stop them from advancing with the threat of being charged. Otherwise, they would make short work of any of the other wood elf units. If you weren't sure which flank he was going to weight, you could at least have placed them in the centre, leaving them with the option of going to either flank.
Also, your shooting seems to have been pretty ineffective. Bad rolls, or was it hard cover due to units getting in the way?

Well. Played. Sir....the first one tripped in the necrotic ooze and died, the other grief-stricken stopped to mourn.

Re: Asur vs Asrai Crusade 2015 practice.
The moment he dropped those hagbane on that flank I knew his hidden objective was to kill more special and rare than me. I was prepared to give him the eagles, and when those shadow warriors refused to rally, I was hopeful of getting those wild riders to even the score, rather than giving him the eagle claws. my shooting pincushoned the lead tree, who had dwellers and throne. He only had the one wound left when he failed that dangerous terrain test. I probably should have remembered to include notes on my shooting.
