the list looks solid, though im curious how you would deal with the storm banner or any other item that restricts flying???

on the note of lores, as ive been using mosnter mash, ive found heavens or light to sinergize better due to the spell range, the MM in high magic just dont cut it with lots of archers
give it a try!

Hey Athanoes, good question about Storm Banner. I guess it is one of those things that will really mess with my list. Thinking about it now though I guess I would Deploy only on 1 flank (probably bunch up to draw him in my direction) against Skaven, 4" will still give me some advance with the birds down the flank. If my opponent has a lot of shooting then the banner will also affect him (as long as the banner keeps going) for that so it may just save me at the same time. I bit of a tough one for me to answer, and I'll look forward to putting this to practice.

Thanks for your input with the Lores, I was also leaning towards heavens with this list so I think I will use Heavens for my first game. I'm super glad to hear that Light has also been working for you with a monster list :D .

Looks good, with just a few points (also would take the build on the BSB given by Elindar)
"Mage of the Shrine Lv2 High Lore -- 170
Magic Items: Dispel Scroll and Khaine's ring"
The ring is short range, and I have been running without a scroll for a while and I think with your army type you could as well. I would drop both items and get the book.
I find that the scroll is good for the big spells and most players will throw 6 dice at them and then your scroll is normaly not going to help as they are going for 2 6's.
The book however is good for smaller spells as you get to reroll one dice every spell or dispell and will help with both casting and preventing the lower spells going off.
Your army has only one block and it is one of the best protected blocks avaliable in our book.
I am also looking at heavens on my mage now (level 4) but might still go for shadows. The book would help with both laws but for you shadows would not be good on a level 2.
I am with you on the Flame Ph, he is there to mop up small units, hunt warmachines and wake of fire large units, never to go into units unless as a support flank or rear charge.
It is the Frost Ph you might find it a little hard to find use for and it might be that you could look for a unit of dragon princes or silver helms instead to go in with the Anointed on Frost Ph.
I find that Frosties work best in cav lists but you might find that with 2 they can do charges together. Just watch what they charge as you will not be breaking steadfast.
I would also look to get a muso on the 3rd unit of reavers as I hate to see them without one.

Hey again strike thanks for the helpful advice. I managed to get two games in this week which I will get the reports up asap (at least for one) so I have some experience now to work off. As for your ideas:
- unfortunately I don't have the points for a Lv 4 and therefore can not get the Book of Hoeth into my list. In saying that even if I could I would still choose the scroll over the book since Kingaroy (had many occasions where the scroll would've much more useful then the book). In the games I had with my new list I managed to save my scroll until late into the game when my opponents needed a good magic phase.
- you are right about the ring it was a bit unused but it still proved useful in giving my Mage three spells to throw some dice at.
- I used heavens as my lore and wow it worked well!
- i like the idea you gave me of getting some silver helms into my list to support the FPs but I just don't know what to drop out of my core to have a unit worthy enough.
- I did drop one archer to fit the muso on the other reaver unit which was good as I fled a bit.

All good, some like the scroll and others like the book.
You could try the ring of fireball, better range, flaming magical attacks

I like the idea of the Ruby Ring! it would give me an extra spell for the first couple of turns and would be good if i come up against Abombs or Chimeras.

Re: Avicii's 'Phoenix List'- List Analysis & Second Game BR

#68 Post by Avicii »

Okay so I made a few changes to the list for a small gaming day I had with friends over the boxing day weekend. You can find the first game I had with this list here LINK

and here is the new list:

Anointed or Asuryan mounted on Frostheart Phoenix
Magic Items: Sword of Strife, Enchanted Shield, Dawnstone, Potion of Strength
New Items on this guy purely because he lacked a lot of punch. I didn't want to sacrifice the re-rollable armour save so it was the Blade of Leaping Gold that had to go. Still keeps 5att at str4 and then gets one round of str7 for when it is really needed (Mainly challenges I guess). The good thing about keeping the defence is to lure my opponent into a challenge before using the Potion (since it has to be used at the start of the turn) and hopefully he will survive first round against most challengers. Then second round of combat I can use the Potion hopefully finishing them off. Not sure if it will work that well but I am hoping this is more effective then the old build.

Noble BSB mounted on Great Eagle (with Shredding Talons)
Equipment: Heavy Armour, Lance and Lion Cloak
Magic Items: Charmed Shield and Talisman of Preservation
Managed to get the points for Shredding Talons on the GE. Will be nice to see how the upgrade works although it would be ideal to get ASF on there as well.

Mage Lv2 Lore of Metal
Magic Items: Dispel Scroll and Khaine’s Ring

5 x Ellryian Reaver with Bows & Spears
5 x Ellryian Reaver with Bows & Spears
5 x Ellryian Reaver with Bows & Spears
5 x Silver Helms with Shields, Champion and Musician
20 x Archers with Muso
A change up in Core is the part I hope works. I have lowered the amount of Archers whom were actually very affective for me in my first two games. However I am looking for the Silver Helms to add to the speed of my list. When combo charging with a Frostherat I see the SH being very useful and will help win combats. They can also back as chaff clearing and warmachine hunting which will depend on the situation.

18 x Phoenix Guard with full command
Magic Banner: Razor Standard

1 x Bolt Thrower
1 x Bolt Thrower
1 x Flamespyre Phoenix
1 x Frostheart Phoenix
I would still really love to fit some sisters into my list but I can't see this happening without dropping PG or the Flamespyre. Maybe something to look at for the future.

The normal swap for sisters would be a RBT.

You make a point. I couldn't see myself dropping the long range and single shot of a RBT though. Maybe I just have the thought that some extra range backing for the Phoenixs could work well?

How do you find the Flamespyre Phoenix? I've had a couple of games with it ages ago but I find him lackluster.

Jimmy - Hopefully I can get the 2nd drunkhammer game up in a couple of days.

hey pk-ng I have only just stumbled upon your army blog in the last couple of days and see it is very similar to mine. It is great to hear from you and hopefully i get some spare time very soon to have a more depth look at your blog and can share some thoughts.

as for your question about the Flamespyre. yes I have found him lackluster at this point but I am going to put that down as poor use on my behalf. I haven't really had a chance to use his abilities properly because I have ether had him out of position or simply sacrificed him uselessly.

I did mention in my first post when changing to this style of list that the Flamespyre only came into the list because I needed to keep my list above a 7 on Swedish Composition while still keeping to my 'theme'. however since now using him i find that he plays and important part to my list. while being great for chaff clearing and warmachine hunting he puts another target on the field which distracts shooting and magic from my 2 Frosthearts. He is also good for threatening flanks and bluffing in deployment (when deployed early). Some extreme cases (guilty) he can be used as a re-director/speed bump, hopefully if he dies from inflicted wounds there is a chance he will be reborn creating a huge headache for the opponent.

All of the above mentioned are things that I wouldn't normally considering using the Frostheart for because his main focus is combat support for obvious reasons. This makes the Flamespyre all the more valuable to my list, but again will come down to me improving my execution with him.

thanks for your time pk-ng I hope our list can both help benefit each other :D

I noticed one of your comments about the Flame Ph and it made me think this might be one of the reasons you are having trouble with useing him. He needs to go down late in the deployment (not early) to get the most out of him, he needs better match ups to get the most out of him with wake of fire, you need to be lineing up for that 50 man (5 wide 10 deep) unit, if you can get a few in his area then all the better, his movement should keep him safe.

I wouldn't say that it is my set deployment everytime to drop the Flamspyre early. I do grind that I go with what feels right at the time which probably leads to lazy careless decisions for the Flame. I will look to get him better match ups in the future, but don't expect better use in the next report

Yes that is the magical days of noob hammer, or skaven slaves.
But it is waisted on slaves, even the rats dont care about them.
But against V.C, Toomb kings and even empire (if they take any foot troops) it can be very usefull.
