Challenge! UB battles

#1 Post by Galharen »

Hi!

Well, I've not seen any topic like this here, so I think it may be usefull.
The idea is to gather us, Warhammer players, and to try some new rosters, ideas, simply saying - playtesting games.
Just write down when could you possibly play, format (for example 2400 ETC rules) and which army do you play.
To simplify coordinating gaming time I suggest using UTC time zone.

Ahh, of course that would take place at Universalbattle portal :)

For example;

Galharen
Army: High Elves
Format: 2400 ETC and 1200
Preferable gaming time: 9p.m. UTC during the week (tuesdays and thursdays for sure - I've got a rest day from gym, other days must be planned before to play), Weekends - in the morning around 9a.m UTC or in the evening around 9p.m

So all I have to do is sign up and I can play virtual warhammer games? No cost?

Nice idea. Perhaps as an adition to your preferred time, you could also add in a prefered day of the week. Not everyone will be able to play on the same days after all. I'll have a think about if/when I can play.

Regarding a pro account, it is definatly worth the money, even if you play only a few times per year. It's dirt cheap and the ability to take all the units/models you want, customise them as needed and save the whole army so you can put it all on the field with one push of the button is great. And you get it all for about the price of a box of GW miniatures.

Of course, the free option works fine as well (I've used it a fair few times...). So it's great to try it out.

Let me look more into it and get to grips and maybe get back to you. Probably would give it a go but not too early.

I take it theres a chat system at least text but preferably voice?

Skype is no option for me as I don't trust it after I got a Virus through the damn thing. Don't know how but it was a biggy! Reformat and everything, pain in the bottom to say the least (I know it was Skype as antivirus labelled it as untrustworthy afterwards). I do have TeamSpeak and of course theres Steam chat that is voiced (sometimes echoes though).

The chat by universal battle itself is good enough to play too.

But its faster and more personal to hear a voice then to write and read. Also hearing your opponent groan and sigh or scream or cry is what makes 40% of the game to me (20% list building 30% gameplay 10% chatting about the hobby).

Its also more fun when you hear another human voice laughing to jokes made during the game or alittle banter going on.

Text will do if I have to.

This sounds like a great idea. Does UB have save game functionality or a way to resume a game at a later time?

Yes you can save a game at any point. Its remarkably easy to save and reload games/army deployments etc. I would advise paying the PRO license (i think i paid $8 for 6 months using paypal) as it is much easier to setup for games.

Just returned to WHFB after some 10+ years.
Would like to try UB, as my time zone does not offer much in terms of play.
I am newbie to UB as well, so will be slow @ first.

Phoenix Throne
Army: High Elves, Dark Elves, Orcs & Goblins
Format: 2400 ETC or anything we agree beforehand
Preferable gaming time: Thursday, Friday - start at 11:00-14:00 UTC (my timezone is UTC +8)

Cheers

With Holydays coming, I might be interested to give UB a chance again but It should be a social experience. So yea, Skype video assisted.
