From now on, I'm a grumpy old woman

#1 Post by Nimi »

Today, I've reached the milestone of 20 years behind my back.

Most of you may think that this is nothing special, just another birthday, since you have that day long behind you. But for me...Well, I feel OLD. Suddenly I'm not a teenager anymore - I'm someone described mysteriously as a 'young adult'. But, but...but I've always been a teenager! What do I do now?!

Well, you see now - this day has a fatalistic resound for me. Still, any happy birthdays and other wishes are welcome.

Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooolllllllllllllllllllddddddddddddd! If I was you I'd give up on the idea of ever having fun in your life. The 20s are a desolate time...

Only 5 years younger than me now Nims. :D

Also, Happy Birthday I suppose! Lá Breithe sona dhuit!

Being more than a decade older I suppose I should limit myself to the wry chuckle reserved for elders about the folly of youth right? ;)

Happy birthday, twenty years is a fine milestone in ones life. Hopefully you'll see the bright side of it quickly!

If you're old, I'm ancient. Curse these brittle bones!

Yeah, happy birthday - be glad 30 is still a long ways off!

I was a wierd kid. I always have said, "I'm young compared to trees, and old compared to mayflies." I never really viewed "old or young as a thing. Just something people say. You'll probably feel younger if you think of yourself as young.
As far as I know, there are only two things that deserve the fear of humanity. Uncertainty, and certainty. The fear of what is certain, one can come to terms with, while the uncertain, one cannot. I seek knowledge because I am a coward.

Don't worry (much) Nimsi... being 20 years old is not that bad as it sounds. As long as you keep doing those things people consider silly, like getting together with friends to hang out, or watch movies, simply play video games or whatever things you enjoy doing in your free time. Sure, life change and you get more responsibilities and all that jazz, but that's not reason to despair. Look at me, I have almost 29 (now, that's a number to worry about... that one and 30 :P ) and even if I work hard all week, I still enjoy those bbq's, pizza and movie nights, sundays of football, et cetera, with my "married with kids" friends (at least, most of them are).

At the end of the day, your age is just a number, nothing more nothing less. And that "young adult" it's just a stupid label, like any other stupid label that society gives to people. It's up to you how you want to live the present day.

oh, and ¡Felíz Cumpleaños! ;)

Thank you all for the good wishes!

Lathian, your words are something to remember - I'm young compared to trees, I'm old compared to mayflies...I think that'll work.

@Paraicamon: Go raibh maith agat!

I'm throwing a small party tomorrow. Maybe it will cheer me up? It's a perfect excuse to cook

I am strarting to feel a bit old so I get what you mean Nimi. I know I'm still young but I just don't feel like somebody who is going to be 19. My conclusion age is just just a number and I am as young as I am on the inside.

I turned 20 in may and felt the same way. Hell I still feel the same way. Telling people I'm 20 just feels weird. Hopefully you'll get over it quickly since I found it wasn't much fun to dwell on it for long. Either way, happy birthday and welcome to old age.

Well, at least one person thinks that my birthday party was cool: )

I was lucky - this year it wasn't raining and I could throw a garden party. I tried two years ago and it rained, last year I tried picnic, and it rained even more. That's my luck...

To be honest, I absolutely love garden parties and all that takes place beneath the summer night sky. I can make those stunning floating candle and flowers decorations nobody cares about but me:) And lots of homemade food.

Well, cooking and cleaning up kept me busy for 3 days, but I don't feel any better with my current age. Maybe it's time to start having afternoon tea with Rammie, like elderly people do...

Hehe - Sounds like an awesome party, and I *do* love those floating candle things! Birthdays are always more somber events than anyone would like to admit, mainly because it puts everyone in perspective thought for a little while. There's a point where getting older ceases to give you more freedoms and liberties, and from that point, you only start to lose the ability to do others.

What I do love about getting older is that once in a while, something comes along that catches you in the right light. Suddenly the years peel back and you feel like you were 20 again. If you keep enjoying things like sports, picnics, cookouts, hiking, reading, music or any such stimulating exercise, you'll never age, you'll always be as young as the life you lead.

Happy Birthday, Nimi!

Don't worry Nimsi, I had the same feelings when I turned 20. That feeling goes away after a little bit when you find yourself still doing the same things you did just one year earlier. And if that doesn't help, I've still got 2.5 years on you. So, Happy Belated Birthday.

A bit late but happy birthday! I promise, it's fun to grumble about teenagers.

I turned 20 two years (and three weeks) ago, and if I don't recall all wrong, I wore full combat gear and crawled through nettles.
