Have a look at trailer 3. I about soiled myself. I've watched the movies and the series (Voyager/Enterprise sucked, TNG was the most enjoyable for me). Never been a 'hard core' fan, just enjoyed the setting. After the three disasters of movies following First Contact, I lost hope, until this.

I had been curious about this remake project, but watching the third trailer last night at the Watchmen I had goosebumps. This looks great.

Be nice to see Zachary Quinto in something good! He hasn't had a decent role since series 1 of Heroes ended.

art direction on this mother is clearly gonna be fantastic!
I am quite a massive trekky myself, something about the "futuristic aspirational humanity coming to terms with thier differences and reaching out to the stars" thing that just gets me.

maybe im just a hopeless romantic optimist daydreamer, but id like to think that one day we might be able to create a society as tolerant and peacefull as gene roddenberry's vision was intended.

(also, being an architectural student i totally bone some of the environments - starfleet academy, vulcan, the starship construction facility etc.. very architectural, very modern, very interesting)

its fair to say that I am erect with anticipation for this movie!

I am highy skeptical of this project. The third trailer is the first glimmer of hope I've seen for the film. I think it will be, at best, average.

Mmm, yes that third trailer is definitely the best one. I wonder how they're going to fit all of that in 2 hours...

Quark is the best!

Anyways, I'm a huge Trek fan. I think that this movie will be the best one of them all, but we'll see. I can't wait to be there opening day though!

I really hope they start another live action series again... I miss it

I've been surrounded by Star Trek ever since I was a wee creature. In that way I'm glad that JJ Abrams is a part of this. In a way, this is a film made for Trek fans by director who understands what Star Trek is all about. At the very core of Star Trek - the later films and television series were very watered down and simplified into a CSI-Format shows and movies.

What that core is - perhaps is what people need to see now. When the human and vulcan species meet - humanity was at a very cannibalistic state, limited governments existed after World War 3. Out of that ash and desolation, humanity rose together as a single nation to meet the challenge of taking a role on the intergalactic stage. You take people, ordinary people, and you put them in unfamiliar situations where they must rely on each other's knowledge, willpower, and trust to overcome that situation.

Somewhere along the line, Star Trek lost a lot of relevancy by becoming a problem-of-the-week format with Voyager and Enterprise. I thoroughly enjoyed the Deep Space 9 series, because it spoke more to the base of Star Trek's ideology perhaps more than The Next Generation did (Don't get me wrong, it was a phenomenal show, and had some great TV moments, but I never felt that the flagship crew of Starfleet was ever in any danger.)

So yeah - I'm really damned psyched about this movie, and I hope that it spawns either more movies, or a mini-series franchise. Like, very two years they have hour-long episodes, maybe a six-ten show run to tell a single arc.

Merri, you pretty much summed it up.
I wasn't really looking forward to the movie, because it had been years since the series mattered. But I have to admit I was sucked into the trailer. The image of young Kirk looking up at the Enterprise still under construction captured the feeling of the series for me- the sense of wonderment and excitement that comes from exploring the unknown and discovering new experiences. I hope the movie is true to that element, and not just exploiting it for the trailer.
And DT22- it has to be IMAX!!
There is nothing so likely to produce peace as to be well prepared to meet the enemy.

I'll start out by saying that I am not much of a Star Trek fan. The only series I ever really liked was the original. (I was always more interested in Star Wars) TNG was okay but the characters seemed to have lost some of the humanity that made Kirk Soctty and Bones Mcoy such great enertaining charcters. I think the movie will be okay and succesful if it captures the fun adventurous spirit of the original.

As someone who has experience in all things Trek - I can simply say that this was the most enjoyable Star Trek for me. Don't let me misconstrue the importance and the greatness of Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan or the tight and beautiful message behind Star Trek: First Contact - but the new Trek payed homage to not only the original Star Trek cast, but also provided a beautiful launchpad to all sorts of wonderful new adventures and to keep it interesting, thoughtful, and most importantly - entertained.

There wasn't a moment in the theater where I wasn't enjoying myself, cracking a smile, giving a jump at a few great moments. And just plain feeling good about watching a movie like this. With all sorts of new stories to be told, I'm ready and willing to don a Starfleet uniform this Halloween!

I give it a solid Two-Andorian Antennae up!

I remember reading a quote of him saying he didn't really give a dman about the original star trek, and star trek fans, and wanted to make a movie for a very broad audience.
