Characters and shooting/MM in a unit

#1 Post by Dartanelo »

Hey guys quick question that came up in a game the other night. vampire lord was in a unit with 7 grave guard. and they were being hit by 18 str 4 hits from fireball. How do you resolve this? I checked the brb and it just made me think it would be different if there were only 4 Grave Guard left in the unit, but I didnt find an answer to either. how you would resolve shooting or magic missle attacks like this? thanks

If the grave guard are all killed allocate the remaining hits to the vamp lord. If you rolled all of the dice at once then take a small percentage of the die that didn't hit and allocate them towards the vamp lord. I would then allocate 1/4 of the failed attacks as hits on to the vamp lord. This is the kind of thing that isn't covered very well by the rules and you just need to make a ruling when/if it happens.

Shanaar is correct.
P99.
All hits are resolved against the unit if it has more than 5 rnf models, it's important to note that if you have a champion in the unit he will be the last casualty removed.
If the unit has less than 5 rnf then the hits are randomised on as 1-4 on the unit, 5-6 on the character.

So the lord wouldnt be hit at all? or the lord would be destroyed as part of the unit he is in?

The Lord cannot be harmed because no hits are allocated against him, all go on the rank and file.

Ok Great, also I recall someone saying that if a champion had a magic item that say gave him a ward save it would not help him vs shooting attacks, correct? because you would use the units save?

You do not randomise anymore.
If you have less than 5 RnF models then hits are ALLOCATED but the owning player (The grave guard player). All hits must be distributed as even as possible.

Also note champions are NOT considered RnF.

True, forgot about the change to allocation rather than randomisation.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Thus it should stand that if the hits are allocated then the champ would get his ward save, I believe.

Not 100% true. He gets his ward save in only a certain situation which is if he is specifically targetted or specific hits are allocated

E.G 1
Sniper spell
E.G 2
1 Character, 1 Champ, 1 RnF, 4 hits.
As the controlling player I have to put at least 1 hit on each of the models (1 on character, 1 on champ, 1 on RnF). For the last remaining hit I can choose to put the hit on any model of my choosing.
