I would try to work in 3 eagles for redirecting and drop some of those silver helms for another 3 mounted nobles, so you have the option of pushing the mage into the second rank of your main character bus. Also consider lore of beasts for the mage, it can work rather well on big character blobs.

i just played an o and g player, and my list did very well. my big block of silver helms plus the dragon princes just ripped up the horde of savages, and the shadow warriors killed the warmachines. The chariots killed the trolls (surprisingly), and the reavers were enough chaff even without reavers. i think ill just keep my list the same
