Shadow noble

#1 Post by Botjer »

I'm looking for suggestions on making a unit of shadow warriors led by a noble.

How many men?
5? 9?

What about the noble?

I guess that shadow armor would be almost a requirement, but other than that?

Sword of might?

Terrifying mask of Eee?

Reaver bow?

How would they be played? Close combat or shooty?

I have a character in Shadow Armour:
Elithmar of Ar Ninglor: Shadow Armour, Lion Cloak, Extra Hand Weapon, Longbow, Dragonbane Gem, Potion of Strength.
He's great fun and has done some great things for me.

He once charged out of his unit of Shadow Warrior friends and into the flank of a Bret lance, with the help of the potion he downed 4 knights, their flaming weapons did nothing to him, he won by 2, and chased them down.

People like throw MM at my Shadow Warriors, and I run a min sized unit, so one wound and Eli gets no LOS.
The most common MM by far is good old Fireball, so the gen has come in very handy.
The addition of the Lion cloak with the new book means I'm not terrible afeared of small arms fire either.

When the unit is less than five he starts copping it sweet, hence the 2+ ward.

Maybe when I buy the real models and paint them up, until then I only have five Archers I converted.

Really interesting! You can add a shield for 2+ vs shooting.
Or you can skip the Lion Cloak and the Dragonbane Gem if you need the points elsewhere, but they can save his life...
What you have to be careful with is the potion of strength: if you get charged its quite likely you die in the 1st combat round. Only if you survive you can drink it on your turn... So make sure you are the one charging - or you are far enough away, so you can flee ;)

Other nice options:
Shadow Armor
Reaver Bow
Greatweapon
(Lion Cloak + shield)

Or you could deploy the Shadow Warriors close to your deployment zone and join them 1st turn:
Reaver Bow
Ring of Fury
Dragon Armor (Or heavy armor, shield, Lion Cloak)
Greatweapon

Reaver Bow
Potion of Strength
(Dragonbane Gem)
Dragon armor (Or heavy armor, shield, Lion Cloak)
Greatweapon

Can't imagine even someone as dexterous as Eli being able to manage a Shield, a longbow, and an extra sword, he's still young ^_^

He can drink the potion on the opponent's turn if you're sure they'll charge, although then if they fail you've wasted it.

Even Seaguard can handle bow and shield. And in CC he uses his two weapons and all the other stuff is savely stored on his back.

For a more durable CC variant you could go with:
Merwyrm shield
Golden crown
Shadow armor or sword of might
+ nonmagic stuff

But he can only scout or do at least some damage...
The beauty of Elessehtas build is that he can scout and has 4 rerollable S7 attacks once.

Can't have two pieces of magic armor, so can't combine shadow armor and merwyrm shield.
