Talifan's Sapherian Defenders

I decided to follow in the foot steps of some of the best painters and customizers I have ever seen and create an Army blog. This blog will tell of how I got into Warhammer 13 years ago, and how my playing style and army has evolved until the release of 8th Edition.

I started Warhammer in the 5th edition where it was as it is now, based on percentages. I was to young and lived to far away to learn how the game was really played, as a 3 hour drive every weekend from Stanthorpe in the Queensland outback in Australia to Brisbane is not an easy drive. I got my first models for Christmas in 1999, a box of High Elf Warriors consisting of 4 Spearmen and 4 archers as well as 2 blisters of Reavers. I still have the Spearmen and Archers...sold my reavers when I realised they had no place in my army with my playing style.

Over 2 years I amassed a force of models that I liked. Once back in Edmonton and able to play games, my force grew substantially. At the end of 7th Edition I had 6000 pts including 2 dragons.

Over the course of 7th edition I played multiple games every weekend, using my blocks of spearmen and sword masters to smash what was left of units after my 2 units of 10 archers and 3 RBT's were done softening them up.

It was in the last 2 years that my force found its true calling. After checking out allot of the army blogs on ulthuan.net, I can say with a great amount of certainty that my force is based around large blocks of Spearmen and blocks of Elite units.

My force has played 2 successful games in the last week with amazing results. The battle reports can be seen here:
http://s1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg6 ... th%202012/

http://s1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg6 ... 0Kingdoms/

The details about what happened in the turns are at the bottom of the pictures in the "description" area.

I will admit that I really do enjoy large blocks of spearmen and am looking at purchasing another 105 spearmen to up my current 3 units of 20 and 1 unit of 15 to 35/36 models each. I am also looking at expanding my Dragon Princes and Silver Helms from a single unit of 8 each to 2 units of 10 at the least, while also gaining another 35 Sword Masters to create 2 units of 30 for heavy hitting slaughterfests!

I am no where near as good at painting as the others, but I personally like the colour scheme I am using and like how they turn out as they look amazing together on the field of battle. My ultimate goal in the next year is to expand my force to 10,000 pts. To do this I need more core, Special and Rare units. As my force grows in size, as will my battle reports and the experimentation of how to best use such a large force effectively.

Pictures will be posted once a camera can be found that works in my house hold. My current list of models and units available to me are:

Tyrion
Teclis
Prince on Star Dragon
Prince on Star Dragon
Prince on foot
Prince on Pegasus
Archmage on Barded Steed

As you can see, some of my models are not done, and my one Prince on a Dragon, the 5th Edition Imric, has been replaced as my brother dropped the original rider off a 4th floor deck on to a road...he was in 6 pieces.

C&C Welcome!

Thanks Tiralya. I used to have the old 5th edition Dragon Princes as well...but my brothers have no respect for my fave hobby...tossed them into a fire one night...man was I ticked!

The force is going to grow, as you know I want to reach 10,000 pts...10,000 USABLE points in 8th...picking up more core in the next week

Mine are beasts! They have cleaved through several units of Ogre Bulls and still wanted more! I also love my Dragon Princes and RBTs...those 3 RBTs never let me down against the Ogres...or the Orcs for that matter! 8)

Even if I had more I'd still run them in small units, I love the way five sword masters can be overlooked but do so much damage. MSU all the way! I have a 3000 point list(I can't stretch it to 3500 yet) and the msu sword masters are still there, they're like a police spike strip.

After some extensive experimentation on movement trays using the standard GW plastic 5x4 movement trays and textured spray paint to try to create simple yet elegant movement trays witch ended in disaster as the spray did not behave as it should have, I have decided on Balsa movement trays. It will allow me to add more texture and create more custom sized trays. My first one is almost done and Pictures will be added shortly.

I have been challenged to a 9 game marathon against 2 Orc&Goblin players and a Bretonnia player, 3 games against each of them...One plays only Orcs and the other only Goblins for the O&G players.

This should be interesting.

The rules are thus:
1. No Magic Items or Lores
2. 1500 pts max

As you can see, no matter what I will be out numbered and I really wish I could use Magic against them.

The Orc Player's list is thus:

Black Orc Warboss, Heavy Armour, Shield
Orc Big Boss, Great Axe, Light Armour, Boar

20 Orc Boyz, Shields, FC
20 Orc Boyz, Shields, FC
20 Orc Big'Uns, Shields, FC
30 Black Orcs, FC, Shields
10 Boar Boyz, FC

The Goblin Player's list is:

Goblin Warboss, Great Axe, Light Armour and Shield
Goblin Warboss, Spear, Light Armour, Shield, Wolf
40 Goblins, Spears, Shields, FC
40 Goblins, Spears, Shields, FC
15 Wolf Riders, Spears, Shields, FC
12 Wolf Riders, Spears, Shields, Boss
15 Forest Spider Riders, FC
4 Goblin Wolf Chariots

Bretonnia Player:
Bretonnian Lord on Warhorse with Lance and Shield
Paladin on Barded Steed, Lance, Shield and Grail Vow
8 Knights of the Realm, Full Command
8 Knights Errant, Full Command
40 Men-at-arms with Full Command
16 Bowman with Light Armour
16 Bowmen with Light Armour
3 Pegasus Knights with Full Command
5 Grail Knights

My list:
Prince, GW, DA, Shield
Noble, BSB, GW, DA, Shield
10 Archers
10 Archers
20 Spearmen, FC
10 Sword Masters, Mus
10 Sword Masters, Mus
5 Dragon Princes, Mus
3 Repeater Bolt Throwers.

After all 9 games are played (we will play one game right after another till all 9 are done) I will have time to create a battle report for each one and have them up asap after the battles.

Oh I had fun all right! Somehow I managed to blow both O&G players out of the water in all 3 games against each player...the Bretonnia games were more interesting and closer...but still managed to go 9-0! Who knew that with 2 small MSU units you could absolutely CRUSH other forces? Also, my RBT's and archers did allot of killing from afar...like allot! Battle Reports will be up shortly!

Huge indeed! Some nice units there. Have you thought about washes to make them look even better? I really like the bright colours. ;)

Looking forward to the batreps.

I have though about them, but I have had very bad luck with washes, and all of my finished units are sealed with the Ard Coat from GW.

The bat reps will be up in the next 24 hours i hope...just need a quiet night at work!

I have decided to attempt washes again...looking at the amazing armies that have been gathered from all over our beautiful land, I have decided that mine really looks quite simple and plain...as soon as the experiments begin I shall post updates.

Washes, the biggest cheat ever! Next to Army Painter dips that is, love them!

lol...they can be a cheat yes.

so my force has grown by a massive amount...15 White Lions, 9 Silver Helms, 5 Dragon Princes, 3 Mages, 35 Sword Masters, 75 Spearelves, 16 Archers, 2 Bolt Throwers, 18 Shadow Warriors, and Alith Anar. I was told I have got about 3000 pts of models. I know I got another 1,000 pts of Core, so I am happy! All for about $190, not bad at all in my mind!

The only thing is that 2 units of Spearmen and the one unit of Archers are painted already...not sure if I should try to repaint them to my colors or not...

Are they painted well, it's okay for units to have different colours, just explain it in fluff.

They are painted very well...my friend used to work for Games Workshop in West Edmonton Mall...he was a great painter. He used washes like a boss lol. I will take some pics of them and put them up and ask for an opinion on them. They are also only in units of 16, I was thinking of building my current units to 30 and adding a 5th unit of 30 but make it an LSG unit.

I got them used. I estimate that I saved about $800 when all was said and done. Got some Orcs and Gobbos for my brother in law.

it is taking me much longer to get the battle reports up than I had thought as my laptop crashed and I am trying to recover the written reports...the pics are up on my photobucket, but are not in order yet either...I will have all in order later tonight, and at least 2 if not 4 reports finished and posted.

My current project:

Also here are the Archers and Spearmen(just 6 of each). Should I keep them as they are or paint them more to match my army?
