Greenstuff World Chameleon paints
I'm painting some GW 90s plastic glade guard (auxilleries to my High Elves) and considered using the Gold to green on the unit leaders cloaks. Would you still use a black base coat or could you use them on top of something like Loren Forest? Also could you apply green ink over the top for shading or would that knacker the effect? I'm a novice painter and only just finding my footing and did not want to outlay on buying a set if they cannot be used for what I wan them for.

Sound fascinating but I’ve no experience to advise or not sadly. Hopefully someone will be along with some insight.

Can't say I've ever tried them either. But if I was planning a lizzard army...

Looks cool, if a bit gimmicky.

I can see them really catching on with guys who build models of sports cars.

Looks pretty cool. I haven't used them either. But from what I've read you definitely can use them over a different then black. If you paint a full layer then the difference will be minimal I think. The same as using a black or white base coat. Yes, it matters, but for most people not as much as people believe in my experience.
Same here. If you paint a complete layer then the base coat will matter a little but not a lot. It will start changing once you get into semi-transparent layers of course. I'm guessing you could paint these as a thin layer, which would give you some of the chameleon effect, but with the base layer still shining through.
I wouldn't put anything over the top of this. I think doing so will remove most, if not all, of the chameleon effect. So, any shading should be in place before applying this paint. Unless you're touching up recesses, where you don't want the effect of course.
