Best painted armies (with own fluff/books)

#1 Post by A'elwin »

Hi all,

I am not sure if this is the right place to post but as a long time Ulthuan.net painting & modelling viewer I lost some golden oldies (topics).
Few armies came by that really impressed me as I am now completing my own 5th edition army, but I lost one of my biggest inspirations, fluffwise.
After a long time out of the hobby I am now completing my own army with my own armybook.

The question:
What armies that came by in the "Painting and modelling" had their own made book?

I can remember one army won some best painted army award at a GT.
Who's army is the army I am talking about?

Hope I bring up some good old memories of armies you saw passing by and can help me find new inspiration.

Cheers,
A'elwin

I believe it would be Ptolemy's army.

I could be wrong, but I remember this army being stunning and winning an award at a GT.

Awesome work by Ptolemy.

I believe someone else on here did this too, possibly Gray. I'll try to dig a link up to his Avelorn themed army later.

Blogs don't get better than Gray's... Pity he doesn't post more, his Chaos army was among the most inspiring out there - converting, scenery, painting, photography - he had it all!
cheers, Lee

Already see some familiar faces from the time I was following the painting and modelling section.
Ptolemy, Gray and even saw the start of the army of RE Lee, funny that you have still the same image after all those years. :P

The armies are wonderful! So much inspiration.
These are great examples, how everyone wants their army to be and where the ones I was looking for!
Thanks for helping me out guys!

After 10 years of wandering around on this forum, not having an account and not posting anything I will have to start a blog this year about my own army. Haha

If someone knows more armies like these, keep them coming!
(Own book, conversions etc.)

That's a spectacular army. I've got plans for a small Avelorn force myself (AoS? What's that?) and that gave me a few more ideas and inspiration. Especially the converted silver helms. I'd love to talk over it but, well, thread necromancy.

Ptolemy's theme is a bit different but no less excellent. Love that background material and how it informs his proxy choices. The personal touch in both armies is a big part of what this is all about, IMO.

Start another thread and put links to Gray's in?
