January-February 2016 Painting Challenge

It is a little too late, but what are you planning to assemble, paint and play in the (not that) new year?

Hmm, are we talking until the end of January Aicanor, or further forwards?

We'll see, maybe I'll make it an ongoing thread for 2016. Depends on how many people join. But as we have about a week to the end of the month, I'll change the title to January-February for now.

So for the last ~ 6 months I've been working on a Flames of War Fallschirmjaeger company and i'm down to the last few bits (some command groups, 3 more infantry squads and a PAK 40. So my pledge is to try and get that lot finished by the end of Feb! (Given that i'm having to help plan our wedding in March, I've got a stag do and of course a 1 year old to occupy my time I think thats a bit optimistic but I hope to make good progress!)

By the end of February I'll finish a Bret Peg lord, a bard for mordhiem, and a goblin warband. All of this is well in progress so it should be achievable.

I've done a poor job of sitting down to paint recently, and before that I did a poor job of posting any pictures. With that in mind if you don't see any pictures from me on this thread or in my painting threads then I expect you to call me on it. It's the sort of thing I should and can do to keep activity on this board.

I should also update my mordheim thread with some of my projects that I've completed but never bothered posting. I don't want to give a time frame on that, but I will work on it.

I'm currently painting a unit of Beasts of Nurgle for my Daemon army.

Plan is to finish by mid-February. I'll try to get a picture up of where I'm at.

This month I've gotten 2 of the 6 Z:BP survivors painted, I have the other 4 and the necromancer in various stages of completion. My goal is to finish them off.

After that, my painting goal will be my new kitchen, dining room, stairwell, and baby's room. Of course, I'll be doing this along with packing and preparing to move near the end of February, so after that I'll likely have to take a month off to get the house settled in... which will be all wrapped up about the time the baby comes along in April. :D

I also have a few Reaper minis I want to get painted just for gits and shiggles.

That's probably the fastest finish we've seen on a pledge, ever... ;)

Looks good.

I'll give this another go as well. See if I can finish something on time for a change. My pledge is my dragon mage model. It's assembled and received first paint. Let's see if I can finish it by the end of februari...

There's a goblin warband? Cool! Looking forward to the pictures. :)

I'll be grateful if I can get another unit painted by the end of the year.

But I do plan to get some painting done. I have a lot of models that really do need to be painted.

It should be noted that I don't play any war games, and haven't in many years. The miniatures that I am painting are now just a matter of pride, rather than something to actually play with. Also actually completing an army or two would be nice

Bump ;)

As for myself, progress is being made:
Image

A bad picture, even by my standards... But it shows the current state nicely. The dragon is progressing. Most of the body parts and wings are almost done. Some final highlighting and cleanup on them remains. Spikes, seat and other fiddly bits are not yet started (I'm still unsure about the color of the spikes, so I'm open to suggestions).

As for the mage and rock/base, they are yet to be started. The base isn't that much work. The mage will take some time. Especially getting the colors right, since going for a red mage with white robes/detail (which is the first thoughts for a dragon mage) isn't the best of ideas on a red dragon. I could reverse his colors, so going for white with red details. But that will take some time to get right. Other options are going yellow / orange with white and red details. Something like that. First, get the dragon done. Doing that this month will be a challenge...

That's a nice bold colour scheme you've got going there Rod!

I've started my final Beast but he might be a few days in the finishing.

Painting. I've not put a brush to a mini all month.

I've done some terrain work, but mostly just to sell it so I'm not sure it counts. None of it is even new design. I need to figure out how to jumpstart my hobby interest.

Well, I did work on the Pegasus lord a bit today (mostly on the peg). I had planned to freehand his symbols, but might give in and use decals simply to save some time.

It was kind of nice to paint a bit again.

Often my feeling when I pick up a paintbrush after a long absence.

For me the best way to jumpstart hobby interest is getting some games in, chatting with a friend about the hobby or getting a new miniature. The last one is probably not necessary in your case (making a guess about your backlog here...). But the other two could definitely work :)

So, I finished the base and elven steed for my mounted BSB and I'm gonna move on with the rider. I'm wondering if I should reconsider the banner length (size in general).

Meanwhile as a break I want to paint in next few days a test swordmaster model, test dragon prince model and a test shadow warrior model, so a nice variety of colors :)

I have decade worth of backlog haha, and when I find good prices on new (well usually 30+ year old) things for the collection I add to it... But, you do bring up a good point. It's very unlikely that I'll use this peg lord in a game, it's just a mini that's always been one of my favorites. I think that has helped slow me down.

Group shot of 10 of the zombies I painted for modern Zombicide (1 toxic walker, a toxic abomination, and 8 of VIP zombies) plus the 15 zombie dogs). Individual pictures are in my plog ...
