Welcome one and all to my new high elf army blog.
First a little about me. I have been playing and collecting since fourth edition, way back in the last century (c1993), so I have a good number of old as well newer figures in my stash. High Elves were my first love, I wanted to collect them from day one but was daunted by their intricacies. I switched to other armies to get some practise before having the confidence to start on the elf folk. I still have the remnants of my first army and will post pics of it further down the blog. But that's all in the past, this blog will be more concerned with my new elf army.
I have not played WHFB for a few years but am slowly getting back in the saddle. I play with a friend, on a very casual non-competitive basis - we prefer story-driven, linked battles. So my army will be far from an optimised killing machine. I would say it's 70% aesthetics, 20% performance and 10% price driven.
I wanted a theme for my army and was inspired by a recent visit to the coast. The pale sand, the green-blue sea, the blue skies and white cloud (let's ignore the fog and grey clouds we had on some days). In fact, here's a photo to show what I mean.
On returning home I dug out my elf collection and started to plan. Then I scored a few old classics on another forum and my fate was sealed. Here's the first couple of units prepped and ready for painting. The archers are actually pretty much painted, I will post pics of them next week.
It will be a slow project, I usually build a few units, paint some, then go to another army, then return. It takes a while but after a couple of years there's an army or two finished. Let's amble down that coastline.

The archers painted up. There are some details I could include but have decided not to bother, such as gems, eyes and other tiny bits. On a gaming table at a few feet away, these things don't matter to me, it's the overall look and theme that works.

I really like the overall tone and feel to those Archers. I especially like the white. It's very clean and light without being at all glaring. Care to share your recipe?
I would however suggest painting the gems. Eyes and other small details you can skip and no one will notice, but with how many gems show up on High Elves, even a simple technique of painting gems can really make the army pop.
Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing more!
