Re: The Nexs-Files - Lotsa Pics. Eltharion, SMs, Archers
Eltharion... The model was cool when you had only built it, but now with paint it's just amazing. The freehand on the robes is simple but really effective. Well done!

Thanks! Only the big sprouty looking one is. The static grass one is the gw pre made tufts (because there wasn't any static grass in stock at the store)RE.Lee wrote:Looking good, those tufts are home-made I understand?

I do like the old lizardmen. Elves will always be my first love, the cold bloods are good fun too! Adds a bit of variety in painting and play style!

Re: The Nexs-Files - New conversion-Korhil replacement
Not a very good photo, but here's (almost) where i'm at with my Sabretusk Lion Chariot. I've gone some more work on the chariot with colours on the chassis and golden bits and bobs.
I'm still trying to work out how i'm going to 'connect' the chassis to the sabretusks...
Also, thought I'd post up the final "Korhil" character image here too.

Yes you'll be executed at dawn for dabbling with that army sir....NexS wrote:I know it's kind of against the rules, but i've enjoyed building him so far
Looking good mate, what are you thinking for the base?
Re: The Nexs-Files - Malekith conversion
i've also bought some 40k Dark Eldar Kabalites because my buddies like 40k and I told them i'd learn to play haha
Now, if it were up to me, it'd be rocky and snowy, but my mate (who it's for) wants his army to be based on more of a desolate, filthy area. So i'm going to be making him a 40mm removable filler base. The basic idea is to get some cork and make a rock base on the 20mm which slots into a larger rock, covering most of the 40mm with dead grass and filthy sludgy look ground.
Hopefully haha

Re: The Nexs-Files - Malekith conversion & Kabalite Champ
I am still alive and working on things, mostly my Lizardmen Temple Guard/Slann unit at the moment, getting them tournament ready. I'll post up a pic once i'm done and happy with the result.
I've also successfully mutulated the IoB griffon rider to prepare him for a transformation into an Anointed on Flamespyre. When I someday purchase a phoenix kit, I'll make a frosty and use the remainders to turn a griffon into a flamespyre. Exciting times.

I like the bone and bronze combination on the Dark Eldar dude. It's not just that its a nice colour combination, you've painted both very cleanly and it's a nice finish.

Re: The Nexs-Files - Malekith conversion & Kabalite Champ
Hey NexS, finished reading this thread, and I must admit, that I am amazed by the amount of creativity and style, you put into all these models!
These Ideas and crazy conversion / miniature dissections remind me very much of my own!
I know, that its a bit too late, but I have to write sth about that Eltharion model, as it is one of my favorite conversions I've seen lately.
The positioning is epic, the sculpting of the cuirass as it should be (IMO). The plane surface has so much potential, as it keeps the slim and elegant silhuette while still opening up for adding details and richness via freehand decorations!
As allready mentioned by others, the goblin head adds a lot of story to the composition. But I think that you could have gone a bit further and add a little bit more reality (in terms of physics) to that scene: Cut away that part E. is stepping on and resculpt the surface, wich should be pushed in, as the face is not hard as plastic, but soft and fleshy!
What you could aim for in your next projects is to work more with lights and shadows in your painting. Imagine a spotlight on your model, to make it stand out! Add contrasts, make the more interesting spots brighter (e.g. the face, waepon, your selfsculpted armor) and the less interesting ones darker or less saturated (e.g. the legs, parts you didn't like, helmet-wings, the backside of the knee and so on...), for example by adding darker washes (working with much dillution but little water) to these areas.
The last thing I wanted to propose is to experiment with other puttys than gs. GS is great for organic materials, but sculpting metal parts such as armor or weapon decoration is very difficult, as it doesnt keep a hard edge very good. There is a wide range of puttys with other qualities. mixing it with gs you get the best out of both putties.
Thanks for sharing your projects with us and keep up the great work! Keep 'em coming!

In regards to eltharion, you're right, there is alot i could have done on it. It was my first model for experimenting with watered down layering, also the goblin's head comment is spot on and I didn't even think about smooshing it! Also, i've thought about the different types of putty, but haven't really looked into it at all. next time i'm in the hardware store i might try and find some
My work lately has been on my Lizardmen, so i don't have many new things to share elf-wise.
But my slann's glowing eyes are completed:
And a new unmounted character made from Chakax's body and carnosaur kit pieces

I like how brutal he looks. No subtlety, he'll just beat you to death with his bare fists if necessary. Very nicely painted as always.

Re: The Nexs-Files - Saurus Oldblood! Hooray!
Thanks Solith!
That's actually a very apt description of the Saurus race and their approach to warfare... They know their manoeuvres, and they perform them instinctually, but they are as subtle as a brick.
Reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend... Saurus has BS0, so we imagine a saurus picking up an arrow and beating the enemy down with it in his hand. That's how they shoot an arrow.

I just wanted to apprise you of the fact how much I love your conversion work and painting skills. Your color selection works very well with the conversion work you procure. It is just so well put together. I am especially impressed with your Lizardmen army. Excellent!
