Thanks tinman and tzineris!
I will do a little more work on it, I'll highlight the light brown scales and maybe a little on the shell as well! Thanks!

Alrighty! Here's Eltharion, so far so good.
A few things left to sculpt: the talisman of hoeth, bit of fanciness on the knee, fix up the hilt of the sword and a flowing cloth belt.
Let me know what you think :)

I agree with Galharen. The model is already pretty awesome and I really like the pose, but he is a bit too plain to be one of the most famous Princes of Ulthuan.

Some ideas which may or may not help:
- You could try and style the chest armour to follow the style of the White Lions' or Phoenix Guard's - they all have a giant triangle over the lower half of the armour with some extra details on top of that.
- You could add some gems - either cut them from somewhere else or sculpt your own. (I've found it easier to sculpt gems in two stages. First you sculpt the metal bracket and let that harden, then you add the gem on top)
- The Dragon Prince kit comes with a number of different small tassels, some with gems or runes on the end. You could see if any of those fit the image you're trying to create.
- You could give him a sash around his waist - it's simple but adds more detail to the model.
- Finally you could give him some fur in one way or another. This has the added effect of bulking out the model a bit if that's something you want.

Also I really like the Goblin head on the base, so thematic!

Thanks for the detailed reply solith!
I actually thought about the detail on the armour before I started. The model I wanted to make was to be as close to the drawing on his page in the book. I am going to add a fan type design on the knee and I'll try and make the talisman of hoeth around his neck. I'll also be sculpting a flowing fabric belt.

The other deciding factor on the more plain heavy armour is the fact that he is a prince of yvresse, which is known for being desolate and bleak.

Brad

I had to look back at that picture but you're absolutely right. I think the fabric belt thingy and the necklace will be all the ornamentation on his chest armour you'd need. I'm looking forward to pictures of when he's finished!

what a good idea!! I like him a lot!Your scutpting skills getting better and better! Now he just needs some cleaning and refining!(smoothing the surfaces with sandpaper, remove old paints and fill some gaps!) And after that painting ofcourse!! What would the color scheme be?

Ok, so a bit of filing and we are ready to go with the paint!

As for the colours.. I'm thinking pale gold for the cuirass and greaves, bold gold (with blue and white) for the helm, white for the tunic/robe and grey for the trousers. I'm open to entertain other ideas though!

Thats a nice model! The bits of detail you've added really improved the sculpt -I'd still try to make his breastplate more ornate. It might be difficult but if you pull it off it going to be legendary :)

Thanks! However, I won't be adding anything more to the cuirass but I might try my luck at making the armour itself more decorative as if there were different alloys added into the plate as it was being forged

Being from Yvresse, I approve of this model, a model on foot is something he lacks, and I think you've done a decent job of it.

This really works for me - love the mage legs base and the silver helms wings on him - really works! The additional details you've added really make him more special too - not just a kit-bash (plus some green stuff) but a nicer sculpt as well. =D>

Now he's mostly finished.. there is some freehand work I want to do on the bottom of the white tunic, and woodgrain on the bow, but other than that it's just about done!

What do y'all think? :)

Eltharion just came alive!! he looks exactly as the book indicates! =D> There are a few spots that need bit of attention though..As the poor goblins head.. :( Metallics look better than previous works!
Generally dillute your paints a bit more and aply several layers to acomplish better smoothness on models surfaces. Highlights should be a bit thinner/finer and gems need a bit of improvement, i think in the previous HE codex there is a really easy tutorial on how to paint gems! :D Finally about the eyes, first you paint the eye sockets black, later paint them a light grey color and make sure you leave a black frame around it, finally add a black vertical line at the center of the eye for a pupil! Done!! easy bussy japaneesy!

Hope i could help! (I really like how you ve painted the arrow case and arrow feathers!! They catch the eye right away!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks for the reply!
I picked up on the goblins lack of highlight and did something about it!
The diluting technique really works well and I've really enjoyed doing it. I've even started diluting the washes to get a wash with a little lighter effect.

As for the gems.. yeah.. and I'm going to have to blame my brushes for that, as tacky as it sounds. I'd take a photo of my brushes, but I'm afraid I'll be ridiculed for working with such subpar tools! And as for the eyes, I've run a wash around the eyes(id already painted them white) and I'll touch up a bit later.
Once I've had a chance to tough up, I'll take some photos in better light. Thanks again!
Regards,
Brad
