Re: The Glittering Host - Archmage Complete
Thank you kind citizens of Ulthuan!
Well the Reavers to complete my IoB set...after that probably a unit of core. Possible Archers, maybe Silver Helms.
I'm also VERY tempted by Vampire Counts...you may lose me to Carpe Noctem
Haha nah, I loved playing with the HE's the other day so will aim to develop this army further I think I'll largely ignore what plays best, and instead paint what I like the look of and make it work in my games as best I can!
So in summary:
Reavers
Another Core Option
After that possibly a dragon

Scenery Piece
...And now for something completely different!
I took a break over December from my painting. The Ellyrian Reavers proved too much for my feeble mind at the time, will get back to them shortly! I've started the following Elven Water Mill over the last couple of days. It's starting to shape up nicely but there's some bits here and there that need improvement. (For example I could do with taking a permanent marker to the edging and in general my cardstock skills are limited!)
I think it will make a nice objective for the battlefield It's a bit polygon-like of course what with it being card-stock but I don't think it will matter too much. The scale looks OK too. Used a WE GG for an example Will hopefulyl have the finished article within a week or so!
It's a nice distraction from the miniatures themselves. I appreciate it's not the 'classic' GW HE Scenery look i.e. nice white towers etc, but I think it will suit my colour scheme quite nicely anyway. I'm hoping the manufacturer release more in the line and have emailed them to ask

Re: The Glittering Host - Elven Water Mill WIP
I must say, it's a bit low on skulls for a terrain piece. Something that large requires at least 2 or 3 large ones in strange places and a hundred or so small ones...
Kidding of course. It's a great looking piece which should look great on a tabletop. It also looks pretty light and fast and easy to assemble, which makes it a great gaming piece.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: The Glittering Host - Elven Water Mill WIP
Thanks Rod, it's fun but a bit tricky in places. The first storey is a bit off centre so I'll sort that.
Also thanks for your info about the archers I'll grab a box and make them 5 x 3 or so. Conveniently I see they're sold in a box of 16 so that's good! Leaves me some parts for the bitz box

Some more shots for your viewing pleasure
It's been fun, but my skills are meager at best! I'm not going to bother correcting too much, it's more than fine for TT quality I reckon!
An inner stair case left to do and a few items then it's done.
Onto a BSB or something for a change!

Haha thanks REL, I would love to say this was all me.
Please head to the lovely people from "Lord Zsezse Works"
http://www.wargamevault.com/product/108 ... _40209_0_0
I've emailed them and got a very prompt response saying that they'll be releasing more 'Elven' terrain via a kickstarter project in the near future.
I really like this piece. No, it's not the white glittering towers of GW's HE's, but I really like it none the less and the colour tie into my army very well. So it will make a great objective for the table top

Re: The Glittering Host - Magnet Query - Help!
Hi folks,
Can you please offer me some advice with respect to magnetizing troop arms?
Some folks have recommended I make both a mounted and unmounted BSB variant for list specific games.
But I have no clue how to magnetize the arms so I can chop and change as I see fit...
I'm sure it's easy enough once the holes are drilled, but where on earth do I find magnets small enough to fit in the arm of a HE!?
Thanks
NC.

Re: The Glittering Host - Magnet Query - Help!
I magnetized the arms of my BSB but I didn't take any WiP pictures sadly.
What you want are neodymium magnets / rare earth magnets (different names for essentially the same thing) which you can usually get off ebay. Hobby/modeling shops and websites may also have them for sale. You'll also want the strongest you can get - they have a code refering to strength ranging from N35 to N52. N52 are the strongest so go for those if you can. If you can't, the higher the number the better.
For my BSB's arms I used 2mm (diameter) x 1mm (height) magnets, which were the smallest I could find. They fit into the arms without any problems, however I'm not sure if a larger magnet could have fit. Measure the arm joints of your model and see if you can fit a 2mm circle or a 3mm circle in there to know which size you need. (Keep in mind that you need some plastic around the magnet to hold it in place.) Larger size magnets are stronger, so if you're sure a larger magnet (i.e. 3mm x 1mm or even 3mm x 2mm) will fit it's probably a better option.
For most of the arms on my BSB, the 2mm x 1mm magnets work just fine. However they aren't strong enough to hold the heavy banner upright the entire time - it just used the magnets as a pivot and span around until it hit the floor. I solved that problem by slightly reposing the banner arm so that the banner pole would rest in a nook on my mounted BSB. For my foot BSB, there is a small hole in his base that the foot of the banner pole hooks into, so now it stands up by itself.
As for the process of putting them in, yeah it's simple: just drill a hole, insert some super glue and push the magnet in. Use something flat and not metal to make sure the magnet is flush with the surface and leave it to dry. If you want to take the magnet out again before it's glued, anything metal will do the trick. This had to be done in the BSB's body and in every arm.
Lastly, the obvious one, but make absolutely sure you have the polarization correct.

Spot on Solith!
Thanks - and yes, I had thought about the polarisation issue already haha
Will upload some pics once I receive my magnets.
Found a few websites that sell them at N42 or so in those dimensions. Will try and find a stronger one.

Re: The Glittering Host - Watermill Complete!
So here's the finished article. Pretty nifty eh?
Had to perch my Griffon on the roof, those damn Citadel plastic flying stands are just so weak. Snapped last night so it's sitting in a ton of glue and I'm hoping it will dry but usually the stands are awfully weak once broken.
Anyway, here's some pics for your viewing pleasure! The scale is great. I'm hoping more are released in this range as I'd really like to build up a gaming table in the garage!
Next, onto my half finished Reavers and a BSB! Just finished magnetizing the banner and torso so will be able to swap from mounted to foot pretty easily

I wish GW made cardboard terrain like that. It'd be so much cheaper.
Your models are all very well painted. I don't even mind the color scheme even though the classic white and blue of high elves bore me to tears. And I love that water mill.

Thats a lovely terrain piece, very elven and there are no skulls whatsoever! The company that makes these is doing a great job, hopefully you'll be able to pack your entire board with buildings as cool as this. I'll be looking forward to it!

Re: The Glittering Host - BSB WIP
Yeah I emailed the company some pics and they will be putting it on their Facebook at some point =) I'll find a link once it's done.
Anyway in the meantime, here's some BSB WIP! Foot version first. Mounted next after my Reavers.
I'm always up for some hints and tips. Obviously the gold is unfinished, needs next layers etc. First mini I've ever magnetised though! This way I can field him as BSB or just with his weapon as a Noble.
What do you guys think of the cloak, should I bother using it? I think it looks too static for the pose. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Re: The Glittering Host - BSB WIP
Very nice idea magnetising the arm! Does it stay in its place or does it fall down easily? About the cloak i have to say that i like it but it is indeed a bit static! You could warm salt in a pan put the cloak in and try to bend it the way you like! (watch a tutorial first)!eg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VP2nUGTmAY

Re: The Glittering Host - BSB WIP
It does tend to fall quite easily I must admit, I think I'll put an extra 'rock' where the pole meets the slab he's standing on. Just something to hook into and that will secure it nicely.
The idea is that I'll be able to swap the standard onto a mounted version if I ever want to use a mounted BSB

Re: The Glittering Host - BSB WIP
Oh how I love this mini, so much character! Only the banner left to finish guys, hopefully tomorrow in time for a battle on Thursday if I decide to field a BSB
Armour etc done tonight bar gems.
Need to read some tactics on how best to use a BSB on foot, not even sure if it's a good idea!

Great stuff here. Love the WIP pics of the BSB--I'd love to see all the arm variations you are doing. And the terrain resource looks very promising. Definitely something I'd be interested in. Keep the updates coming!

And I'll find out about the terrain updates - I know the company are kick starter funded so I dare say it'll be a wee while before the next update!
