Boozeys Army painter Dipped High Elf Army

#1 Post by boozecluez »

Well at the start of the year I was lucky enough to aquire this unfinished amazing High Elf army off Awesomeshotdude and decided to complete this army off in his his style. I am still a novice painter ,not painted a huge amount before but armed with a list of colours used, basing guide I am diving head first into the project.
So far I have added some extra units to this army, coming off a small break keen to get stuck back into it with the release of 8th edition .

This is the previous thread if you want to see Awesomeshotdudes work or familiarise yourself again with it

http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36765

( Already Painted and shown in above diary )

3 x Mages
1 x Noble on griphon
48 x archers
46 x spearmen
2 x eagles
32 x swordmasters

Anyways ,have had this thread running on another site, but would like to be more involved in the elven community so would like to share this all with you..Any feedback is appreciated as well

This was taken 1/2 an hour after dip ,so call this stage 2 ..
Gives you an idea of how it looks per dry/shade/touchup

AFTER

Ok so here they are finished, pretty happy with the result for my first attempt :) Also noticed a couple of very minor touch ups will be needed (handle has a tiny bit of brown on one guy, could always relegate him to the second rank however ,his family would be happier bout it too ,the down side for taking close up photos haha

10 x Phoenix Guard , (20 remaining)

Thinking I might change the base to a round one for the bolt thrower and have the crew seperate for a cleaner look.

So in terms of things remaining to paint

Things on the paint list to do

x20 white lions
x20 phoenix guard
x10 dragon princes
x10 elyrian reavers
x2 dragons
x 2 chariots
some characters

So will be a busy boy haha

Then will all the new items ,have plenty to keep me busy for the rest of the year.
Also may go back and do any minor touchups if needed

O: nice

I really need to start looking into dippin' to make certain projects done quicker ~_~
How do you apply it, by brush? Wipe excess and all?

I use the Dipping method on individual troops, letting it run off for a few seconds ,then use the flick method (8-10).
Then I repeat this on the rest of the troops,by the time I have done this (5 mins) I will go back over them and remove any pools with a brush .It likes to get stuck in corners (under arms) etc ,also on flat surfaces but will remove some of this as well.
Then when dry I will give it a light coat of antishine ,then lightly paint over flat areas (like cloaks) along with any detail, base then we have the finished product.
Still perfecting the above ,but the result I am fairly happy and a good way to paint a nice clean large army :)

Nice and quick result! But i think if you paint the gems shiny and if you add a highlight with a ligther blue color where you ve paint blue, they will look much much better!
