You could even say that he's a bit of a card...
Okay that was awful.
@Tzineris
Thanks! I think you're right in that the neck is slightly too long, but I also think the pose is one that would stretch/expose his neck so it's not as out of proportion as it seems. Too late to change it anyway.
@NexS
You have started something awesome.
@EagleOfTheForestPath
Thanks! Yeah the scars don't quite fit. I was originally going to use one of the various mage heads I have lying around to give him a crown, but the hair was flowing in the wrong direction in all of them and I wasn't up to sculpting all of his hair to make it look right. Then I was going to paint it as a recent cut, rather than an old scar, but that meant painting it in much more vivid purples etc. and it ended up drawing far too much attention to the scar so I faded it into the older scar look you see there. Not ideal, but it was the best option I could come up with.
I think this head adds quite a lot to the motion of the model so from that perspective I like it. Perhaps I should have tried to splice two different heads together - the face from one and the hair from another. Why did I not think of this sooner...

Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions
New stuff today.
First here's a WiP of a Master BSB. Made from one of the Dark Elf Chariot crew (and of course the cloak is for the other crewman so it was a paint to fit) and the Dragon Prince banner. The banner itself is too heavy to blu-tack on (and I'm gluing it on last so it doesn't get in the way while I finish the model) but it's flowing in pretty much the same direction as the cloak.
Corsairs! I've been painting these at a record pace (by my standards at least ) at over half done in about half a week. I'm also trying out some slightly darker colours across much of the models - it doesn't show very clearly in this picture but the greens, the greys and the silvers are all darker than my usual colours.
I would like some feedback on the banner:
Specifically the freehand. I was aiming for it to look like the corsairs themselves painted the design on - kind of like a giant piece of calligraphy etc. Does this come across? Does it just look a bit messy? Should I make the white lines thicker at all? Should I repaint the entire thing in the style of Jackson Pollock?

Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions
Hey man - great stuff as always. Looking forward to seeing your BSB progress.
RE: banner as you asked for feedback
It is neat and well done, but personally I think the white lines ought to be a little thicker (even though these are fey little elves) because otherwise it looks a bit 'weedy' (not quite the right word but the best I can think up) on such a big block background I think.
I also think it is very difficult to capture the idea of it being 'self-painted' by the unit. Banners are a weird thing - even the master painted ones do not, to me, look like actual fabric banners - they look like beautiful works of art but not fabric banners. As such, for me there is a suspension of disbelief with them and I think of the representation on them as being on a 'real' banner, but I'm not sure I personally can stretch it to imagine how the art got onto it. I'm not sure I'm expressing myself clearly here .

Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions
Imo the Banner needs something like a distinctive border to show up! the design you made could be slightly thicker too! Also making more intensive shading on the green might help too... Just my thoughts... Corsairs are awsomelly painted!!

Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions
@Ferny
Thanks!
I think it's technically possible to make it look like the design has been woven or embroidered into the cloth, but that'd involve painting in the texture of the cloth etc and there's no way i'm going to that extreme. But yeah, I agree that banners aren't generally that realistic. I guess it's a case of willing suspension of disbelief, or something along those lines.
@NexS
Thanks!
I might be consistent in quality/results, but I'm certainly not consistent in speed.
@Tzineris
Thanks!
The green is more shaded than the pictures show, but interesting idea about adding a border. I think I'll wait until the details along the banner pole are painted to decide on any boarders one way or another, but it's a good idea.
So, I'm almost certain that I will be thickening the design on the banner. Big thanks for that idea.
Also something minor to show:
Shades! Shadow Warriors with Dark Rider heads and Corsair hand-bows. They're not the best Shade conversions around tbh, I much prefer the 40k Wych conversions you see around, but I had a few extra Shadow Warriors around and these work well enough. At some point I'll probably also change my existing Shadow Warriors (they appear somewhere earlier in the thread) into Shades, because they're flat out better.
Thanks!

Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions
I really admire your conversion taste, good job. More and more I want to buy a box of shadow warriors myself
Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions
These conversions are all so cool, it's great to see someone embracing the tremendous modelling possibilities with the Host of the Eternity King.
Keep it up!
Keep it up!
Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions
I am disappointed by the lack of progress in this thread.
I have managed to make and even finish a Tyrion conversion. It's inspired by someone else's conversion (I can't remember who ).
Mostly made from the Prince/Noble box, with some parts from the Dragon kit.
I also made the base detachable so I can use him as a regular Prince instead. There are magnets hidden inside to hold Tyrion in place.
And of course, the real Dragon of Cothique.
Also, a phoenix.
I've made it this far and yeah... motivation issues have been crushing me.

Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions
Doesn't he come on a normal base anyway now?
I hear you on the motivation issues. That's why I've done a full switch to painting things for mordheim.

Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions
Great conversions!!
How much wood can a woodchuck chuck??..
Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions
Lovely Tyrion model! Do you use a coat of varnish or something on your gems? They're very shiny
Re: Solith's painting log of eternal distractions
Does Tyrion still playing with 50/50 base..? I was wondering because he stoped being monstrous beast..but i don't know.. The model is excellent though!!!
