BSB finished...changed the colors quite a bit... I started pink &yellow, just to try something new.
Wel the green/yellow cape stayed; so using new colors thats an improvement.

Used Lahmian Medium a lot again, the paint runs much smoother that diluted with water.

The Phoenix is my attempt to some free hand. Because of the dilution it worked much better than my first attempt.
All in all im quite happy with the result. In feel i am improving my painting skills

Incredible painting.

IMO that Phoenix is not an attempt at freehand, it's a success!

Little (fluff) question though: where's his sword? (Because his scabbard is empty)
Ulthuan is was a place filled with tall, thin, arrogant people that look younger than they are...
a lot like Hollywood, actually.

Really good job, I like your freehand and the overal look of your army:)
The only one thing I would like to suggest you is matt varnish, your models are too glossy for my taste.
Just the personal opinion :)

Thx Shannar, Mr. Sealord!

@EagleOfTheForestPath (whats in a name?) yes good one, a friend of my pointed it out also. Of course an ElF never looses his sword. So I quest I have to punt it some where. Maybe just stuck into the ground; point first? Not gonna put the handle in the scabbard.

@Galharen I use the standard GW spray varnish, is that to glossy. I use the GW glossy paint (simple "nail pollish") on the gems, and sometime on other spots. For example, the mouth/teeth/tongue of monsters and dragons (because og the saliva. Some tiles (Tyrion), and on the BS on the blue phoenixes of his armor. Don't not why i did the blue phoenixe, little experiment probably......
I think the glossy paint on some details can make it stand out more. On the gems its an easy trick (and I hate those gems!!).
You don't use the GW varnish spray can? what do u use?
Thx for the comment. I appreciate it alot!

Discussing paint and technics is something I would like to do more often on the forum.

Personally I just use a brush on matt varnish (and a brush on gloss to hit the gems with after). The are tons to chose from and they are all basically the same. I go with the brush on simply because it's more convent to not have to consider weather. Whenever the model is done I can varnish it.

But even this the sprays you have tons of choices. Like a lot of GW products you can get the same thing for a lot less.

Dear Ulthuan-ers,

There has been an awakening…… I started X-wing, probably like zo many of us. Watched the movie (GREAT), read some new Marvel comics… man I’m loving it!!
I was not able to shake the dissapointment of age of Sigmar. I watched some vids, kept a close eye on the games workshop site…. And nope....still dissapointed. I think is a dirty trtick the played. Releasing all the expensive End Times merchandise…. And that one big middle finger……

So I changed… And my friends joined in. The game is easy as pie. We play 1-2 a month. NEVER played so much warhammer, not even close, tyhe rules are so much better.
Started painting the models as well. The Boba Fett (Slave one) ship is my first project for some one else, was nice do to. And he was pleased with the results.
Have my Poe Dameron X-wing, I like it… probably paint some more.
It's a different painting, easier, but straight lines are a pain

Last week I watched some Youtube 9th age battles…. And it started to itch again. I do miss the fantasy setting. So my collection will still be at display… probably start painting fantasy in 2016 again… but for now I’m riding the star wars wave… AND IM LOVING IT!!!

So I hope U like my little star wars intermezzo. Till next time!

Hi!

I'm still in love with fantasy, however I bought as a christmas gift the X-Wind starter for my young cousin and we played once or twice, I have to say it was fun, however we didn't have much time to dig into all detailed rules.

Nice glass cabinet! =D>

X-wing is a good game. Largish games of Armada are even better. I didn't really care for the normal sized game of Armada, there just weren't enough choices available to make it really interesting. But once we doubled the points (it helped to have 4 peoples collections to pick from) it became a really interesting game.

Thanks for sharing the x-wing intermezzo. The models look great. Some lovely painting on them. And I can imagine that with the movies coming out now is a good time to start :) What kind of game is it? It looks a bit a space-battle skirmish style game.

I do hope you come back to fantasy a some point though. I love some of the fantasy models in the plog here.

The Everqueen turns a dodgy model into something great IMHO. Except for the mouth somehow.

So back to fantasy Battles.... or what do we call our hobby these days....
The itch is back, been watching some KoW videos, really looks promising. I have some basic knowlegde of the rules. Read some 2nd edition rules. I like it I think this will be my fantasy battle game to play in the future.... AND X-wing of course!!

Finished my second unit filler (the magnetised ones), happy with it. And some lion elves.
After that I wanted to do something new..... and since I have A ton of these I thought why not.

Some Pics

Yes I need to write something in the book I know.... will be some japansese signs.

rest of skaven

Image

So a lot of skavens to paint....
Changed to Army painter and Vallejo, I want a Games Workshop free buying policy now. Ordered some rattle cans and some vallejo inkts/washes. I have no idea I like them, but we'll see. Its a big price drop those paints, so thats a good start.
Any of you guys have experience withe the vallejo washes?

till next.

Well the whole box is maybe a bit much...... 4x IoB set....
Think the plague monk unit and some orges is challenge enough..... And an assassin maybe.

Its mainly to practice/learn some speed painting skills. When i paint as much output as possible; base, drybrush, wash, some details....

Some great looking models there. The lion unit fillers are great. I like how much detail you managed to get in such a small space :)

As for the rats, nice colorscheme. It makes them look suitably ratty :) If you have another 4 IOB sets waiting for you then you have your work cut out. That's a lot of rats to practice speed painting on... Still, a whole army looking like that will look amazing on the table.
Peepster1976 wrote:So back to fantasy Battles.... or what do we call our hobby these days....
I just still go for Warhammer. At the moment everyone still knows what you mean by that :) Of course, if you end up playing KoW I'd also go for fantasy battles. Or tabletop wargaming (which is an even broader term).

Keep us updated on the progress.

little up date.
It going faster than I imagined. But I am no speed painter. I noticed I'm still putting layer on layer of high lights. The thing that speeds it up the most is I made 2 special colour, really thin, so i can use it straight from the pot onto the mini. That helps....
so DONT TROW AWAY EMPTY PAINT POTS!!!! they are really good for mixing large amount for mixed paints

now +/-7 hours of work, now onto the last high light layer and than the brown furs and tails.

Oh and a little assassin.

Image
oh and i discover I had 35 more plague monks....yes!!!.... not in the mood. I put those away for later.. first this block

Image
Image
the different effect of the high light layers
Image
Image
Assassin! was dont quite fast, content. Some small details.....Vermin is not my main army.... good enough

hope you like, comment is welcome

Looking good. I guess with rats and the amount you need even for a simple army you need fast painting (or a lot of time to spend on the hobby...). 7 hours for such a unit is a great result (also considering that a unit of 30 LSG took me almost a year...).

Have you written down the quantities for your 2 special mixes? That's a problem I usually run into, which is that I forget what colors I need in which quantities for an effect I managed somewhere.

Oh, Skaven... really dig your paintjob on those Plague Monks. The colour scheme is kind of similar to mine but with a more dirty feel, and all-round bette execution I have to admit ;) Inspiring, I'll have these bookmarked for when I get back to my horde (in a couple of years probably).

The painting of the pot on the last detail shot was done with the technicals from GW; corrosion, oxidation and rust. Very simple, good results, can hardlygo wrong with these ones.
Realy like the technicals from GW.
Better pics when they are finished

I like the oxidation/corrosion on the metal parts. It really suits the models. I'm not sold on the warpstone. It's a bit too green and one-dimensional for me (not that I can do better, mind). But perhaps that's still on the todo list of the models.

As for the workstation, I'm jealous. It looks like a great place to work. Did you make the bottle holder yourself?

Thanks for the link. Bookmarked it. Great looking site, with some lovely modelling stuff. I liked this one: http://www.sceneryworkshop.nl/mini-mons ... mm-19.html, just to add some atmosphere to a scenery piece. And, living in the Netherlands, shipping shouldn't be an issue.
